Michigan's final five games

  • Michigan's final five games are @ Nebraska, @ Minnesota, vs. Northwestern, vs. Iowa and @ Ohio State.

    - How would you rank these fives games in terms of difficulty, going from most difficult to least difficult?

    - What's your prediction? Who wins each game?

  • Most difficult will be this weekend, in my opinion. Followed closely by OSU. Both very hostile environments.

    Nebraska has the most complete team out of the teams left. They have a good offense and a pretty good defense. OSU has a terrible defense but a great offense. I'm cautiously optimistic that we match up well with OSU.

    @NU - I think they come out firing and the game will be decided very quickly. If we can get the crowd out of it and get momentum quickly, then I think we'll win. I don't think we'll be able to come back in Lincoln. Since I'm being optimistic, I'll say UM wins 31-24, but I can easily see this going either way. Abdullah and Martinez are looking really good lately.

    @Minnesota - no explanation required. UM wins 42-10.

    NU - They put up a good fight. They always do. But in the end, we're at home and have the better team. It'll be closer than we want and we'll all freak out about it but UM wins 28-24.

    Iowa - They just don't have a good team. I don't see how they beat MSU. Their games against CMU and PSU were pathetic showings. UM wins 38-13.

    @OSU - Very compelling game. It's a good matchup of Awesome offense (OSU) vs. awesome defense (UM) and pretty good offense (UM) vs. terrible defense (OSU). In that case, I think we're looking good. But this is their bowl game.. and in Columbus.. and first Game with Meyer.. they have all the intangibles going for them. But again, I'm an optimistic guy. UM wins 24-17.

    Wisconsin - They've been getting better all year and will be ready for this game. I'll have to watch more of them to know enough to talk about this game, but screw it. They already won one B1GCG and this is our year. UM wins 38-24.

    USC - I'm saying that Oregon goes to the MNC, which probably won't happen, but no matter who we play in the Rose Bowl (Oregon or USC), my optimism will run out. We just don't match up well with either IMO. Maybe USC.. but nah. UM loses big and I cry. But not too much because I will be loving life in Los Angeles. I will also be laughing at the fact that OSU is not in a bowl game and MSU played a couple weeks ago in the Pizza Pizza bowl.

    All imo:

    Toughest games remaining

    1. OSU
    2. Nebraska
    3. Iowa
    4. Northwestern
    5. Minnesota

    Prediction:

    @OSU - I'm holding off on this one. Not going to predict this quite yet.
    @Nebraska - 31 - 17 UM victory
    Vs NW - blowout UM victory
    Vs Iowa - 24 - 14 UM victory -
    @Minnesota - blowout UM victory

  • 1. @ OSU - rivalry game; at the Shoe; final game of the season for OSU; they would love to screw up our season; Hyde has emerged as an effective power RB to compliment Braxton Miller; questionable defense
    2. @ UNL - game will likely decide the division; UNL seeking revenge for last year's humiliation in AA; Martinez is throwing well; Burkhead dinged up; questionable defense
    3. NW - speedy spread offense is one of the best in the B10; questionable defense
    4. IA - offensively challenged due to injuries
    5. @ Minny - offensively challenged due to injuries

    Predictions:
    1. @ OSU: UM wins 31-24
    2. @ UNL: UM wins 31-20
    3. NW: UM wins 41-20
    4. IA: UM wins 34-6
    5. @ MN: UM wins 45-10

    I feel like Michigan is a more complete team than all those teams but it's hard to see Michigan going 8-0 in Big Ten play. I think at some point the D is going to have an off game and hopefully that isn't against Nebraska or OSU.

    I agree with almost all of this analysis, except I would dispute the characterization of Nebraska's defense as "pretty good." This is a team that gave up 36 (along with 650 yards of offense) to UCLA and 63 to Ohio State...and the Ohio State game was a night game in Lincoln.

    oh, my bad, you're right.

    Still, 63 points.

  • OSU - on the road against our biggest rival, they have some of the best talent in the conference, Meyer is a good coach who will have something up his sleeve and who needs to win his first home Michigan game badly, they aren't a great team this year but good enough to say that OSU are favorites to win this

    Nebraska - A flawed team but then so are we and it's in Lincoln. I expect it to be close, could go either way.

    Iowa - This will be a lot closer a game than people think. Iowa will take the run away and that will keep our offense more in check than we'd like to, but it's in Ann Arbor and we should be able to pull out a hard-fought victory in the end.

    Northwestern - I think they can give us trouble, they have a knack for it. But I expect us to win in the end, their D isn't their strong suit and I expect us to score.

    Minnesota - Not a laughing stock type team anymore and coming after the MSU and Nebraska games there's a chance the team may let down their guard a bit against a team like Minnesota. But this should be a win given that we should be better than them across the board.

    All in all I think we can win all those games, but on the flipside you can see us go 1-4 here too if things break against us. In a everything going even type scenario we probably go 3-2 and end the regular season 8-4.

  • I understand the spirit of the thread however I just want to beat Nebraska first. I also hope that Braxton Miller is healthy when they play next month.

  • Before the season I had Michigan losing @Neb and @tOSU while winning vs NW, Iowa, and Minnesota. I like our chances a little more @Neb, but it is tough to win on the road. In order of toughest to easiest in my eyes,
    @tOSU
    @Neb
    Iowa
    NW
    @Minnesota

    Central Michigan and Penn State seem to disagree.

    Iowa couldn't stop them from passing, I'm not counting on Denard throwing for 300 yards with no picks. Iowa knows that stopping Michigan's offense equals basically stopping Denard from running reliably and I don't know if you are aware of it but Denard has never beaten Iowa.

    Iowa's passing offense is terrible, they rely on Weisman and they won't score too many points that way but I can see a lot of scenarios where this is a close game because we can't score many either.

    UMSkeletor

  • Just to break the habit....

    1. Northwestern Game...they have been playing well and Cain Kolter is a beast. Somehow they just find a way to win...gotta be careful with them.

    2. OSU....good offense with Braxton, but we'll spy him with Jake Ryan and he'll throw a few picks. UM will gash their defense right and left and it will be a 3 score contest by end of night. UM by 17.

    3. Nebraska....NU has trouble consistently moving the ball against us; only scoring 16 pts and we slice their 'D' up for 38 big ones
    4. Iowa...good run defense by the Hawkeyes but I don't see them scoring more than 10 on us.

    5. Minnesota....blowout Win for UM
