Michigan still a 2 seed

He is just quoting the SOS component of the RPI calculation. It's not really SOS the way most people think of it (or what Kenpom or Sagarin would call SOS).

I know. Just figures cope would go with the one that has Michigan's SOS the lowest.

  • Well, Syracuse is cooked. Unbelievable run by Louisville.

I think, unless I am totally wrong, Wisconsin needs to lose tomorrow. If they win, they'll probably take the 3. If OSU wins, I would have to think the 3 is in tact.

Cope is Cope. It's impossible to have an intelligent conversation with him. I don't know why I even try.

Seed us whatever you want, but please don't put us in UL's bracket.

  • And I think an Ole Miss upset of Florida would be a huge boost. If Ole Miss and OSU won tomorrow, there would be no way Michigan could be kept off the 3 line.

Yeah, if Ole Miss could beat UF that would help. I think Syracuse losing is good enough to keep us on the three line though. Wisky's a wildcard, but idk if they would move all the way to a high three seed even with a W. They had a poor nonconference and lost some other questionable B10 games. But I agree it would be better if they lost tomorrow.

  • #4 seed gentlemen

  • I think Michigan will get bumped down to a 4 seed.

Right now, my 1 seeds are Gonzaga, Louisville, Kansas, and Miami.

Of those 4, the first 3 won their conference regular season and conference tournament. Miami won the ACC regular season and will have the opportunity to win the ACC Tournament against North Carolina tomorrow.

My 2 seeds are Duke, Indiana, Ohio S (especially if Ohio wins tomorrow), and Georgetown.

My 3 seeds are Florida (if the Gators win the SECT), Michigan State, Kansas State, and someone like Oklahoma State.

Hence, I think Michigan will be a 4.

I said that's where they belong earlier. Agree.

Kansas State and Oklahoma State will not be seeded ahead of us. But New Mexico will. Florida might or might not. I think we will get a #3 seed.

  • I'm hoping for the 3 seed but I'm predicting a 4 seed.

There is a negligible difference between being a 2 and 3 seed but there is a considerable difference between being a 3 and 4 seed.

  • K-State and Ok State have 0 shot of getting ahead of Michigan.

  • Why would Kansas State have zero shot of being seeded ahead of Michigan?

Kansas State tied for at 1st place (along with Kansas) for the Big 12 at 14-4 and finished runner-up to Kansas in the Big-12 Tournament.

Also, Kansas State has no bad losses like Michigan. We have a loss to a horrible Penn State team. And we lost in the quarterfinals of our conference tournament.

Kansas State is 27-7. Michigan is 26-7.

I can understand Oklahoma State not being seeded ahead of Michigan but I'm confident Kansas State will be a 3 seed. Kansas State finished the year ranked #11 in the Coaches poll and #12 in the ESPN/USA Today poll. And Kansas State backed it up by at least reaching the Big 12 Tournament Final.

If Florida loses tomorrow, then I'll be relieved because Michigan will be almost guaranteed the 3. Otherwise, I'm expecting a 4.

He's right. Very small chance Kansas State or Oklahoma State will be seeded ahead of us. The fact that they did well in the B12 is largely irrelevant because the B12 is considered a much weaker conference than the B10. The committee will look at records against RPI top 25 and RPI top 50 teams. We have a better record against both including wins over two RPI top 10 teams (OSU and MSU). And while our loss to PSU will hurt, we beat PSU two out of three so that will soften the blow (i.e. show it was a fluke). And, of course, we beat KSU head to head on a neutral floor by double digits.

    Record vs. RPI Top 25
    UM 3-4
    KSU 3-5
    OKST 2-4

    Record vs RPI Top 50
    UM 8-6
    KSU 6-6
    OKST 6-6

  • Good post.

    I hope Michigan gets a 3 seed.

However, I think the committee places too much emphasis on the RPI. Ken Pom and Jeff Sagarin provide better rankings.

You can only laugh at this new adjustment. Wisconsin beats Indiana, and falls from 4 to 5. K-State gets trucked by Kansas, and moves up from a 4 to a 3.

  • Down goes Florida.

6 of their 7 losses are to unranked opponents. Can you put them in front of Michigan???

I wouldn't. FWIW Jerry Palm has both of us as three seeds (though this bracket might be before the ACC and SEC tourney championship games were finished).

1 Seeds: IU, UL, KU, GONZ

2 Seeds: OSU, DUK, GTWN, UNM

3 Seeds: MIA, MSU, UM, UF
