For more on Darboh, here is a story I wrote a couple weeks ago.

Excellent story on his football development, thanks again Steve.

lol You ok with this, SC?

Yeah, I'm not as critical and bitchy on Darboh as I once was. He's kind of grown on me.

Though, I like Payton better, Darboh is a good substitute.

  • Hey Steve, if you're still around, do you think this will lead to a pressure situation for the other WR targets as we only have one left? I know many of us want to wait and see what happens with Stefon Diggs, but if one of the two spots are already taken, other guys like Chesson, Payton, or Powe could jump on it.

  • Welcome Amara!

This is the first film I saw on him. I heard that he was a good YAC guy, but I didn't see it. What I did see is that he is deceptively fast, which makes him a deep threat. He has an uncanny knack for finding the open spot in the secondary, and looks to have great hands. I was expecting him to be more of a juker (sp?), but I definitely liked what I saw. All reports are that he is still learning the game (understandably so), and is a tireless worker. I am happy to have this kid, without a doubt.

    not Steve but here goes...

Michigan isn't recruiting Powe anymore, he's basically said so himself. He's said he hasn't heard from Michigan in a long time.

Chesson and Darboh really hit it off, and I think landing Darboh helps us out a lot in our pursuit of him.

Payton is staying the west coast IMO. I just think of him as a "west coast" kid. There was a reason he had committed to USC so early. Honestly, I am much more excited about other WR targets than Payton. He is a fantastic HS player and a great possession receiver, but the kid literally has no speed. Think Jason Avant without the ridiculous body control or hands- and maybe even less speed.

As far as Diggs goes, we are in it, but how much is anybodies guess. Whether or not he takes a visit will be the tell, it's really as simple as that. I do think we hurt our chances a bit with him by waiting on him to see how the grades turned out- the backing off due to grades thing is what basically killed our momentum with Burbridge and allowed him to go to Sparty- had we stayed on him like Sparty, he'd have been ours.

We all know we're only taking 2 WR's, and we just got one. My guess is Chesson is the next WR to drop.

To add on, it certainly makes it more of a first come first serve, with Chesson looking like the best bet.

  • Darboh is a guy I really wanted. Great on the field and also a great man off of it.

And the story on Amara is truly amazing.

This team will be damn good in a couple years.

you like Payton better? Seriously? Why?

Payton has no speed. He's basically a better version of Jeremy Jackson, except slower.

Darboh is an athlete. I like athletes.

    No speed? You high?

Payton is a better athlete. Plus, Payton is versatile seeing as he can play CB.

Darboh is faster than Payton. Both handtimed, Darboh has a 4.42 40, Payton has a 4.52. That's not that good for a WR.

Darboh is better after the catch as well, at least on film he appears to be.

If you think 4.52 is bad for a receiver...........I don't know what to tell you.

Darius Powe ran a 4.55 40 and everyone told me that that was a fast time.

Am I high? No, sorry. Don't take drugs.

Payton is NOT a better athlete than Amara Darboh. Payton cannot play CB in college...ever.

Sheesh, do you people watch the film of these guys?

And don't throw out 40 times here, unless the time was verified at some sort of Army or NIKE combine (the only 2 that actually use laser timing) those times are incredibly unreliable and basically just speculation.

Payton's film tells me he is a 4.6 kid at best. At best. He cannot run away from anybody.

Darboh's film tells me he is probably in the 4.4 range. He runs away from people that have angles on him. He is legitimately fast.

Payton is slow as molasses for a WR. He does NOT have good speed- not even close to it. Good enough? Sure. But he is not a big play waiting to happen. Darboh? He is a big play waiting to happen.

    supermario9

  • Not saying you are wrong but you also need to consider the competition in the film. Darboh is playing in Iowa and Iowa doesn't scream fast athletes to me. Payton is playing in one higher conferences in California so the other players probably have some speed. I like the Darboh pick up though, it will nice to see which of the two is better in the future.

    Payton can play CB dumbass.

JC shurbutt, and Barton Simmons, both analysts on this site think that he is a good corner and could play the position in college.

  • Eh Payton is overrated IMO. Feel he just is ranked highly cuz he had hype as a young kid starting for a powerhouse. He would be a pretty terrible CB IMO, not quick or fast enough.

Oh, you mean JC Butthurt and Barton Simmons - a pair of fan-boys- NOT talent evaluators that both got fired from Rivals and ESPN?

BTW- Butthurt is the guy at Rivals that bumped Junior Hemingway down to a 3* and said that Hemingway would never see the field at Michigan- and that he was a program "depth" player.

I have no idea where you get your information, but there is not one school that is recruiting Payton at CB, and the kid could flat out never play CB. He doesn't have any speed and his quickness and hips are definitely even CLOSE to being good enough to play CB at a BCS conference school.

I thought people who work at recruiting sites were talent evaluators? Or, am I mistaken?lol

I just told you where I got my information...did you not comprehend that?

I never said that Payton would be a good CB, Shurbutt and Simmons did.

Oh, and you're really cool to call out analysts who work hard to give you recruiting information on this site. True class.
