Actually, I think we did ok. Marquette took the last three seed, which surprises me a bit, but we avoided UL, IU, Duke, OSU, MSU and Wisky. VCU is a dangerous team, but you can't avoid everyone. I am very happy with our region.

  • Everyone is so worried about VCU because of their defense...

    Richmond - 82pts
    Temple - 76pts
    St. Joes - 79pts
    UMass - 62pts
St. Louis (VCU Loss) - 62 points

Their last 4 games, teams are averaging in the high 60's with a very fast tempo game. That is not at all the type of game Michigan has really struggled against this season where the scores are in the 40's. If it's a game where you're out running and scoring, I like Michigan's chances. The half-court game is where the offense really struggles, IMO.

  • UNC could also potentially give Kansas a run for their money. I'm not too confident against VCU or Kansas/UNC, though. And I know absolutely nothing about SDSU.

That UNC/Kansas matchup could be a good one to watch in the second round.

  • We will win against VCU imo.

I saw VCU play against Duke. The key is simple - to avoid turnovers.

And Michigan is one of the best (if not the best) at not turning over the ball. This will be like playing Arkansas.

    Bill Self owns Roy Williams.

I'm going with Kansas in this match-up.

But it will be better for Michigan if UNC pulls the upset.

Won't even happen, Villanova beats UNC if you ask me.

  • Anyone see Pat Caputo tweeted that Nate Wolters, the PG for South Dakota State, is better than Burke? loco

This schedule makes me feel more confident:

  • Nate Wolters may not be better than Trey Burke but he's close (statistically).

Wolters (senior): 22.8 ppg / 5.6 rpg / 5.8 apg. He shot 49.3% from the field, 39.0% from the arc, and 81.0% from the FT line.
Burke (sophomore): 19.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg / 5.7 apg. He shot 47.9% from the field, 40.1% from the arc, and 7.3% from the FT line.

Wolters has a 124.8 offensive rating with a 30.2 usage percentage. Burke has a 124.4 offensive rating with a 28.9 usage percentage.

I guess statistically, but one of those played in the toughest conference in America and one... did not.

  • Honestly, this bracket isn't looking too good for us. We probably won't "walk" past South Dakota State and if we get by them, there will be some tired legs vs VCU and a loss is not far-fetched at all. And then in the Sweet Sixteen you would probably get Kansas who might be the tip to win the whole thing. Really getting to the 2nd weekend is all I really dare to hope for at this point.

And it's a self-inflicted wound, imagine being a #2 or even #1, which was perfectly doable, and how that would open up things.

Agree, but Wolters is very nice, he is no slouch. He certainly could play in the big ten IMO.

It also wouldn't shock me if this team went to the final 4

Agreed. One would be disappointing and one would be exciting, but neither would be a total shock.

  • To be honest, out of the other options at 13, I really didn't mind seeing SDSU pop up on the screen. They are a really small team, probably just as small as Michigan, and equally poor defensively/on the glass. It's going to be a shootout. I think Michigan has too much firepower for them. If they can shut down Wolters, they can run away with this game.

In the second round, it's a crap shoot. VCU is good, but I could also see Akron pulling the upset.

Its not their defense in the low scoring sense, its the get up in your face and disrupt you. Full court press and trap a lot. When you gamble like that, you give up points, the goal is that you cause enough turnovers and transition into even more points than you give up. Shaka Smart is an intense and aggressive coach, his teams play style mimics that. There's definitely reason to be concerned about playing them.

Can you imagine Burke in Wolter's conference? lol He could average 25 a game if he wanted to.
