  • Based on recent experience, I really don't want to get excited about one of the absolute best players in the country, but I'm happy that Michigan is positioning themselves well with Hand.

  • Man I really hope we pull him and McDowell. I'd be happy with those 2 and any other 16-18 guys

  • Good move by the staff by asking the Coach to come up to the camp and be a coach for that week.

Very good move. It's all about that relationship with the coaches.

Yep. Even if we don't get hand, it positions us well for the next guy.

Not only that, but note who they sent: three DL guys.

  • Hand seems to be a little different than your typical #1 overall type player.

99% of the time when kids say academics are a priority it's just lip service, but it seems like he's serious.

Glad that Hoke and the staff are putting in the work to get this kid to Ann Arbor.

  • Alabama is Alabama, but if is a first rate education that D. Hand is looking for then only two of the five qualify imo...Michigan and N.C. Glad to see we went after the number one prospect with the big guns.

He wants engineering, Va Tech is right there with Michigan and UNC.

I don't think so. Michigan's engineering is far superior to VT. The problem is it would be nearly impossible to manage Michigan football and Michigan engineering from a time perspective. Not to mention, admission to the engineering program is very difficult.

It would take an exceptionally gifted kid, academically and athletically, to pull of an engineering-football double. Perhaps Hand is that guy, but it won't be easy.

Agreed, Michigan is a better engineering school. That said, I don't believe that his decision is going to come down to that.

Our engineering is not far superior. We are ranked somewhere between 6-8 for undergrad, Va Tech is ranked anywhere from 13-17 depending where you look. Point is, whether he chooses Va Tech, Michigan or UNC, he will get a stellar engineering degree. I consider that a near-push. Va Tech is close to home and he's comfortable with the school, whereas Michigan is a bit farther but he seems to love our coaching staff. His recruitment will probably come down to campus environment, how our teams are trending in 2013, and the coaching staff's ability to stay on him throughout.

He also loves Bud Foster. I don't know how long Foster will stay there, though. I could see him (or Beamer) retiring if next year is similar to the season they just had.

Love the article, but not sure I have a bigger pet peeve than trying to tease readers with a question to get them to click. We are fans, we will click. Don't worry.

  • Having serious consideration from the #1 player in the nature after a 8-5 season is an indication of the hands that this program is in. Rattle off 10+ wins this season and this situation is going to continue be more prevalent.

IIRC, Drew Henson did it and graduated in 3 1/2 years while playing football and baseball.
