Michigan Back In The Mix For Dawson

  • BigPapi said...

Conley goes on a visit- UM says they will still recruit him.. Dawson goes on visits- Hoke reoffers..

So basically that, "Once you are committed to UM, your committed and can't visit elsewhere" nonsense is just BS, yes?

  • Not sure why people are calling the "re-offer" hypocritical.

The no-visit policy is still in effect. Dawson was no longer committed as a result of the lack of communication. Everyone should know that Michigan and Thomas Wilcher communicate, and that Dawson communicates with Wilcher (duh).

The offer to rejoin the class HAS to be a result of that. They spoke, they discussed why decisions were made, and made amends.

I understand the uproar from some of the fans of the other teams (come on frat); it's because Dawson is skilled. If he was a no-name recruit most wouldn't bat an eyelash.

Yet again, I don't see where Coach Hoke (who I have been quick to criticize in the past when I thought he made a mistake) contradicted himself here.

Conley was very up front about his desire to visit. Recall he spoke directly to Coach Mattison prior opening his recruitment back up. Dawson apparently reached out to Florida without informing Michigan. This was AFTER he called Hoke upon returning from The Opening and reaffirming his commitment. Not being up honest = ties severed.

    Same thing with Brown.

Yet, again, they apparently had a discussion with Dawson and resolved whatever differences existed.

Did Hoke patch you three way on the call on this. Why such the concern ?

  • Really glad this finally happened. Seemed like he mademade some bad decisions, still wanted to go to um but had to deal with the consequences. As long as he redeems himself to the coaches they should reoffer him. Hopefully he takes the offer quickly.

Yep. Saw this one coming .... I think DD and Hunt are in a race. DD is probably well aware this OL spot will not stretch to January, when he has more visits. A decision will need to come in the next 2-3 weeks IMO. You wanted it ... you got it. How bad does he want back in?

Why was is offer pulled then? they just reoffered him. I think what you said is true if the player (ex: conley) is upfront with the coaches. I think if the player isn't upfront and doesn't communicate with the coaches then the coaches will pull the players offer and completely part ways. I think Dawson's situation was i little different and the coaches made an exception because of what he has been through. IMO

I agree with you 100%. I think that if his past year hadn't been such hell then he would not have been re-offered.

Dawson did not act like a mature kid. That is a fact. He screwed up, was less than honest...that is why he was dropped. But the coaches are doing the right thing. They know he had a terrible year, and no reason to hold grudges against 17 year olds. If Dawson learns from the process, all the better.

  • I am not sure yet how I feel about this. It is easy for me to sit here and say that I want him back in this class because I do, however, even though I feel he will end up blue, what if he picks OSU, Bama, or MSU, and the re-offer to him leaves a bad taste in Rogers, Hunt, and Lacy's mouth, after they starting to be somewhat heavily recruited again by Michigan (going as far as to set up officials)? In the long run this could still cause Michigan to be without any of the 4 on National Signing Day. That being said, I am glad he has a chance to go blue again, I hope he does, and I think he will.

  • This is great and all, I just hope it finally ends in him actually recommitting at some point. He ain't back just yet.

Yep I have no problem with people making mistakes as long as they learn from them. I am actually a fan of Hoke's policy. I just hope that in future classes don't look at this and think "Well if he did it, then I can do it."

I see your point and it could backfire. Having Dawson back would be great but I would be more then happy to have hunt and Rogers in this class

If the coaches are willing to take [Dawson] back then so am I.

    I agree.

Our coaches have earned the benefit of the doubt. I trust them.

I still have some concerns about Dawson but I hope that he'll mature into a respectable man.

This past two months on the recruiting trail have been the strangest. Everybody grab your back packs. I am going on a mission trip in Montana, maybe I run into Phil Jackson & we can sit down break bread with some cup of joe & talk about the good old Jordan days.

I should be back by NSD.

lol Can't wait to hear the stories you've got to tell after that!

I wonder how future stud recruits will re-act to the no visit policy seeing that two guys already broke it with no repercussions?

Because the policy is not an absolute dichotomy.
