His first assignment should be to spend time with Malik McDowell, Drake Harris and all the other prospects who come in for the IU basketball game this weekend. If I were Coach Hoke, I would make Roy Manning the "Julie McCoy" (am I dating myself?) for all group events like this.

I agree. And Kyle Berger as well, as he would be his new position coach.

The more I hear about Berger the more I want him. He sounds very fast with a good nose for the football a la Jake Ryan. Yes please.

ive lived in royal oak area years 10 now, but i was born and raised in saginaw, so I love this. I know saginaw hasnt put out top prospects like they use to, but I dont see why they wont in the future. I hope he provides a familiar face for coaches up there to send there kids too

Question, for anyone in the know.

I've always been curious about how "versatile" position coaches are/should be. Is there typically a lot of movement on either side (offense/defense), meaning "should" DL coaches typically stick to the line? Or would there be concern if a former secondary coach was brought in the teach DEs?

I really haven't seen OL coaches move around a lot (meaning, I don't see them coaching WRs or QBs; they typically, from what I've seen, stuck to OL).

I can see why you'd say that, and I agree. It remains to be seen how he is as a recruiter, but I feel like he could be very energetic and a good builder of relationships. I'd be comfortable sending him down there in a year or two.

I think it was Squid who was able to dig up that Manning played a role in Ondre Pipkins (grew up in Saginaw) committing to Michigan. Should bode well with Brian Cole for the 2015 class.

The other thing is young people usually like to travel while older people often don't. If you assign the far away territories to the older coaches, they might not get worked as hard as they will by the younger coaches. And the far away territories are the ones you generally need to work the hardest because you don't have any home state/region advantage.
