Who is telling him that Michigan would "probably" move him to DT.... Tom Gholston?
If the kid envisions himself as a DE, and wants to be the next Gholston coming out of high school... being told by others outside of the Michigan staff that DT would be in his future is an example of negative recruiting, no?
I just found that comment odd.

I would take him if he wants to play QB
Not worried about this kind of talk anymore. Hoke and Co. are so good at selling us, Malik will know exactly what to expect if he came here.

mcdowell is 300 lbs right now. the kid has the athleticism to play end but he most likely will grow right into the 3 tech. i mean he may end up being nose tackle size lol. this kid is 300 going into his jr. year. lets let things play out a little before we worry what people are telling him about his position.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Gholston's "advisor" he had during his recruitment.

I think he will end up playing SDE but could probably stay at WDE if he goes to UM. Imagine how massive Michigan’s D Line would be if he plays WDE .

I expect him to play SDE.
He is a freak of nature and can redefine what a SDE can be if he wants.

As for Gholston's "advisor," he's on staff at MSU now (funny how that worked out), so if he was having that much contact with McDowell, he'd be violating NCAA rules.

The monday after the game he insisted that one of his "sources" told him about a comment that was made by Lewan and he agreed with Gholston's reaction hinting it was race related. So maybe he didn't come right out and say it but you know he was thinking it. And of course he never corrected his statement allowing people to think it was race motivated. To this day some spartan fans think Lewan is a racist even though Gholston himself would admit it wasn't race related. In truth it wasn't even the comment that caused the punch but rather the utter domination of Gholston by Lewan that day IMO. Maybe i'm being unfair to Valenti or just being spiteful but I just can't stand that guy sometimes.

I can't think of the advisor's name off the top of my head but wasn't he a former spartan football player? I could swear I'd heard that. I think he was one of his coaches in high school as well. Mitch Mustaine all over again.

Yeah, I know that entire story. Archie Collins, played DB for MSU in the late 90s under Saban (and when Dantonio was DB coach), and was the defensive coordinator at Southeastern HS; steered Fred Smith to MSU and made sure Gholston never seriously considered anyone other than State, and played a major role in Hankins' recruitment as well. Once the talent dried up at SE, he left to take a job on Dantonio's staff at MSU, and is a grad assistant now.

It varies from school to school, but in general, they don't make much. Generally, it's room, board, tuition (for the schools that require you to actually attend grad school) and a monthly stipend. The stipend varies depending on the school.

But for someone that's serious about a career in coaching, that's by far the best way to begin working your way up the ladder. So if it goes well, it'll pay off tenfold down the line.
