Makes no sense why any top DL who

  • wants a real education would consider anyone but Michigan.
Hell, a WORLD CLASS UNIVERSITY where few rank against,
period. Then to play in the BIG HOUSE which will be getting
bigger. On TV in front of more people than anyone, period!
But the best thing yet is to have three of the BEST COACHES
in the game (period) on your "6" day in and day out. It doesn't
    get any better than that!

I know I am a homer and I understand where the state of CFB is
momentarily. I respect Bama (had classes while in the USAF
from Bama and Auburn - Liked Bama better!) But Michigan
is Michigan and we will be in the hunt on a regular basis again,
but this time we are going to the next level, but we will be setting
a new standard in CFB never seen before!

You make some great points here. Michigan definitely has a lot to offer any recruit, and especially defensive linemen, as you pointed out.

One thing that I think would really help the Wolverines on this front is to produce more NFL defensive linemen. In cases where Michigan is competing against the elite programs in college football for a particular prospect, some of those schools have better track records for producing NFL defensive linemen.

That should be inevitable in 4 years. Constantly churning out good draft prospects.but not just be know for producing prospects, but good men with great work ethic who will represent their teams and families with dignity and class. Heady players who are cerebral by nature. That's what We should aim for.

Absolutely. As long as Michigan can be in the mix with those other elite programs in terms of producing NFL defensive linemen, then those other factors that you mentioned can help push the Wolverines over the top.

  • A sanction-less PSU would contend for that spot. Larry Johnson Sr.'s track record of producing DL is incredible, and should continue with Jordan Hill and DaQuan Jones, along with Deion Barnes and possibly CJ Olaniyan/Anthony Zettel.

Once Michigan produces NFL DL, they'll certainly be where the OP suggests they will. It may or may not take longer than 4 years. It's always great to be able to point to first rounders (Brandon Graham, e.g.), but another great thing is to show kids that you produce players who not only get drafted, but also produce big-time in the NFL.

  • University of Florida is a very academic school as well. Don't count them out and they seem to get DL talent all the time.

  • We do have a solid D-lineman in the NFL right now. Mike Martin (Titans) had 5 tackles last week vs. the Lions. He has 12 tackles in three games on the year so far.

Nice....one of the best DE's in the League.

And I think I've even seen a little Brandon Graham activity this year in Philly too. If he ever gets and stays healthy, he could be a really good one.

  • Wasn't intending to knock the current Michigan defensive linemen in the NFL. Just making the point that some of the other national powers have more defensive linemen in the NFL than Michigan does, and that's certainly an advantage on the recruiting trail.

Very true Todd, but most all of those school one does not have to read, go to class or pass any exam. I know some may say Florida has decent academics, but face the facts. Florida does not hold a candle to Michigan. In fact, only Vanderbilt comes close to the B1G's Academics.

Mich will get these kids and when we do we will right CFB with Michigan again beating the SEC and everyone on a daily basis.

I love CFB and enjoy watching great games played by many teams. However, for us to be on the south side of the ledger demonstrates why CFB is screwed up.

We must be doing something right. Oklahoma, Miss State and other B12 & SEC schools refuse to schedule us home and home. Why? Because they recognize what we are building and they do not want anything to do with us.

  • Michigan's DL has done pretty well this year. Coming into the year I was really worried about the depth of the line, but so far so good. I only think the only freshman that have played are Ondre and Mario. Can't wait to see this position group develop over the next couple years.

Unfortunately, that's just the nature of the beast at all levels of college sports - different academic standards at different schools. I do think that the top-notch education that Michigan can offer becomes a major advantage with the elite recruits that that's important to.

  • It's because all the top DL in the nation are going to tOSU. Sorry, but I guess the question should be, why would they go to scum when tOSU is a top 10 team consistently.
