  • Delmas is back. Hopefully he can stay healthy.

Lions bring back Louis Delmas | ProFootballTalk

Some thought that the addition of safety Glover Quin would slam the door on the Lions bringing back safety Louis Delmas. And yet hes back anyway. The veteran signed a two-year, $9.465 million contract, per a source with knowledge of the situation.

  • How would you guys feel about picking up DJ Fluker in the second if he’s there and having him play RG? He would fit the blocking scheme and most likely be the BPA if he’s there.

    1.Johnson/Fisher
    2.Fluker
    3.Washignton

    That’s a nice 3 rounds IMO.

That'd be a great three rounds, but it's way too logical for the Lions.

  • Lions have a number of holes. We must be out of cap space because tbhere are a number of FAs still available that would be auto upgrades. Or do yu guys think they are just waiting until after the draft? I like the moves so far. I'm not so sure on delmas because of his injuries tho...

Guy’s like Sebastian Volmer and Andre Smith are probably out of their price range, and none of the veteran DE’s really have anything left in the tank.

I’m kind of surprised why they haven’t resigned Justin Durant since he’s been decent during his time here but maybe they’re thinking about addressing the position in the draft.

  • CJ restructured just yesterday, giving us around 8mil in cap now. Not sure how much cap it will take to sign all rookies, but that should be enough to sign a few bargain free agents if they work the deals right. Not sure if they're looking to bring Durant back because he was quite a liability in coverage. It will probably be a cheap contract after the draft if they do.

    UMFB

  • I'd rather not resign Durant, but if they can't find an upgrade I understand bringing him back. I think he sucks personally, he takes so many crappy angles in the run game, and is average in coverage. He was their worst backer last year.

No thanks to Johnson in round one. Great athlete, and loves to compete. But he gets knocked off of his anchor way too often in pass pro for me to consider him at 5.

Fisher, imo is the best prospect in the draft. I would be very happy if he was there for the taking at 5.

Fluker in the 2nd as an OG prospect intrigues me, and that could easily end up being his best position as a pro. I'm not on or off board on this move. Have to see who else is available here. Guys that I would consider better value are T Carradine, J Cyprien, Q Patton, and A Brown. Those are my 4 targets off the top of my head at the top of round 2.

C Washington is another intriguing prospect and I think he could shine in a 4-3. I'm definitely listening to you here. He seems like a prospect that could come off the board any where from late round 2 to any where in round 4. Can he make the move from a 3-4 to a 4-3, I think he can. He showed some nice burst when I was watching Senior Bowl week, and looks much more natural lining up as a rush end vs playing the 4-5 tech that he did for Georgia.

Its weird to me. I think he comes out of nowhere and makes big plays and is an asset in the run game...mist of the time. He has speed but he just dissappears and takes poor angles at times. On top of that he has been hurt his whole career.

He is very much an up and down player. I remember re-watching the Lions vs San Fran game, and San Fran was leaving Durant unblocked when they were running through the A gap away from him. He had a perfect opportunity to make plays in that game against the run game, but his angles were just terrible and Gore would break his tackles easily, because of Durant's crap angles. The latter, the light would go on at times. For eg against St. Louis he played one of the best games I have seen from a LB at Detroit in the last 3 years. The light just went on, and he attacked, and owned S Jackson in the home opener. No missed tackles, great angles, he was stacking and shedding like a surgeon.

Overall though I'm not a fan of Durant, because he is way more like the game against San Fran, than the game against St Louis.

He could be upgraded but I’d feel better about starting him next year instead of a rookie. Former OSU LB Larry Grant is still FA he could be a possibility as well.

I disagree with you though about the worst. Levy by far was the worst LB among the three IMO. He sucked in every aspect of the game.

I think he’s weight gain should help him a lot with his anchor. At OU this past year I think they listed him at 300 and he was playing around 290 in their up-tempo scheme. At 310-315 that should be much less of a problem.

I’d be happy with either one and prefer both over Joeckel but Johnson’s upside put’s him over both for me. I like Fisher and he’s probably a better player right now but he didn’t dominate the MAC like you would expect a top 5 pick should. The only time I ever really saw him play up to that potential was at the Senior Bowl.

Johnson need’s a lot more work but he played against better competition and he played well against that completion for someone who’s only been playing the position for two year’s IIRC. But again like I said I’d be happy with either one.

I really like Fluker as a G. I think he can be a rich man’s Kelechi Osemele, at the postion. I agree with you on Tank, and Brown but I think he’s a better value than Cyprien and definitely Patton. Patton is more mid third then early second IMO.

I don’t think they used him right at UGA. They should have had Jarvis play the SAM, and had Washington play a Joker or Jack LB position with his hand in the dirt. I just think he’s a guy who’s much more explosive out of a stance.

  • I really like this guy as a sleeper in the sixth. Undersized, but quick, uses hand’s well, and has great production (12.5 sacks in 2012, 8.5 in 2011).

Could be a really good rotational guy.

  • These are two other guy’s that I like in the mid to late rounds.

Marquardt is a former basketball player who started playing football once he got to Azuza. Has great size, athleticism, a nasty demeanor, and has been coached by former Ram’s All-Pro OT Jackie Slater.

Gardner is a JUCO guy who committed to go to OU in 2012 and LSU in 2013 but didn’t qualify either time. After not qualifying the second time he entered the draft. Good speed, but great quickness and YAC ability. One of the most talented WR’s in the whole draft IMO.

He started 13 games for Jacksonville last year so he should be a really solid rotational guy. With Suh, Nick, Jones, and Mosley they now have their 4 man rotation.

With them not addressing the DE position in FA, I’m now expecting them to draft Ansah at 5. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they traded up for Menelik Watson from FSU.

Big need for a DE on that roster. E Ansah, B Werner, and T Carradine(if he checks out fully healthy AP style) probably all in the conversation at 5 overall. One of the three DE's as well as Joeckel, Fisher, D Jordan, and D Milliner will be the pick. Haha, gotta love how I've narrowed it down...

Glad to see the 4 man rotation figured out, arguably even or more improved for next year. Hoping Jones tears it up on third downs, would love to see some packages with Suh out at DE more often next year.

That, and possibly a TE. At least the WR value should be good if they go that route in the 2nd or 3rd. I wouldn't mind going after Harper or King with a later mid-round pick possibly as well.

I think it’s going to be between Ansah, Milliner, Fisher (if he’s there), Johnson, Patterson, and Warmack.

I don t think Werner or Caradine are top 5 prospects. Caradine is probably a top 15-20 and Werner is a top 20 to 25 prospect IMO.

I hope they wait to address the TE position until next year. Next year’s class of TE’s has a chance to be really good with ASJ, Colt Lyerla, Ebron from UNC, and AC Leonard.

  • There should be a DE steal at the top of the second round, guys like Okafor, Carradine, Datone Jones (scheme, I know), or Damontre Morre. Very good chance that one of these first round talents is there when we pick in the second, I think.
