I think the Lions should pick these picks

OT Fisher in the 1st LB John Bostic from Florida round 2 WR Patton from Louisiana Tech round 3 Honey Badger round 4

    1st Round - Milliner
    2nd Round - Sam Montgomery
    3rd Round - Robert Woods

That would be my favorite draft. Team really needs a DE (or two) but I agree that there isn't one worth drafting at 5 when Montgomery is gonna be around early 2nd round and isn't that far behind a lot of the 1st round guys. I think Woods is a damn good receiver - he may not last til third round, but w/o that injury he could've gone in the 1st.

I like yours too, I'm just personally not that high on Milliner. I just think we've avoided the OL struggles long enough and Fisher is one of the best. Bostic is just a really good tough nosed LB and I saw Patton play against A&M and at the NFL combine and he's a stud. The Badger in the 4th would also be a steal.

Really, the honeybadger? I just think he'd be a terrible fit on the Lions. They've already had enough bone heads getting in trouble with pot, DUIs, and all around idiots. I just have no confidence that they'd be able to get him to focus and play at a high level.

I just think there's value for him in the 4th or 5th. It's not a huge risk that late but the reward could be pretty big.

hammer You keep your dirty hands off Andy Levitre! My Bills suffer enough without getting looted every time we develop good young talent.

    Lets be honest here:

He's likely not re-singing with Buffalo. He's also highly doubtful to sign with Detroit either.

    Boyz got skillz doe!

  • After Milliners combine- Im really coming back around to like this kid at 5 again.

Then hoping to get a DE: M.Hunt or Tank Carridine in the 2nd Rd

I really like the Ansah and Cyprian picks. Schwartz was rumored to really like Cyprian at the Senior Bowl, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they traded up for him.

That’s really high for Nico Johnson though. He’s slow, not great in space, and is bad in pass coverage. He’s probably going to end up as a 5th or 6th round pick IMO.

I can’t see TJ McDonald playing FS at the next level. He’s very stiff in pass coverage. His best fit is going to be at SS.

The "later round" safety I really like is Tony Jefferson from Oklahoma. But I see him going in the 3rd.

I also agree- McDonald may be more of a SS, than a FS.

I can see your agreement on N.Johnson too. I just really like him as a football player. Watching guys like B.Spikes & V.Burfict as starters in the league, really pisses me off tho. I wanted the Lions to take each of those guys late. Figured it was worth the risk. I'll take that risk on Nico this year. (tho hes not a 6th, 7th, FA type of guy like the other 2 I mentioned)

Tony Jefferson ran a 4.75 very disappointing
    McDonald ran a 4.59

A corner that I'd like to see us grab in the 2nd or 3rd is Desmond Trufant, he ran a 4.38 and impressed all week at Senior Bowl

Nico looks like he will be gone mid second. Ill take him all day.

I still hate our draft philosophy and here is why. Because its still nkt even about getting the best player. Its about getting the best offensive player.
These guys sat around and decided that if we had a top flight offense, it would put people in the seats regardless of how many wins we had. I hate this

  • Nobody here would take Tyran Mathieu? I would take him in a heartbeat if he was still there in the second or third round.

    I haven't read previous posts.

With the Lions track record the last couple of years with players getting arrested, the Titus Yound situation, etc... I would be really really unhappy if they drafted Mathieu. I don't want a player with issues until they get a coaching staff that is able to handle that type of player.

Hell no. After all we put up with the past few years, I don't want another headcase.

I am not saying that he would be their first DB pick, I was thinking their second DB pick. I want them to go DE then DB DB when they pick.

shrug I don't want the Lions to draft him at all. I don't trust Schwartz and company to be able to handle a player with his issues.

Understandable it was just a thought. Good for him when he finds a team and hopefully he can stay clean because he will be a great player.

  • I would absolutely love to have Mathieu. I really think he'll be an absolute steal for someone in the later rounds. He has all the talent to make plays in the secondary and in the return game and is someone that the Lions could really use.

But we just cannot have another headcase. He'll be a great steal for another team.

SF, New England, Baltimore, etc... would probably be good teams for him to go to.

  • Was really surprised to see Milliner run that fast, I still don’t like him at 5 though. He’s still a bit stiff, and has little to no ball skills. If I’m picking a CB at 5, I want a shutdown corner. Milliner is not that IMO.

These would be my top 5 preferences for the pick right now.

    1.Ezkiel Ansah DE BYU
    2.Cordarrle Patterson WR UTk
    3.Lane Johnson OT OU
    4.Eric Fisher OT CMU
    5.Chance Warmack G Alabama

Johnson and Fisher are neck and neck for me right now, but I give Johnson the edge because of the athleticism. Fisher is probably gone by then anyways so it’s a moot point. He would be a great fit for Philadelphia.

I would as long as they used him right. His best fit at the next level is going to be in Charles Woodson SS/NB role. He’ll be a S in the base package and a NB in the sub’s.

He’s not a corner, and he never was one at LSU.

I like Jonathan Bostic but that seems really high for him. He’s a two down player and he’s not a great fit for the scheme either. He’s a downhill 3-4 thumper/SILB.

Tony Jefferson could be around in the 4th or 5th. His coaches at OU have thrown him under the bus for his work ethic and attitude, and he ran slow at the combine.

Spikes was a 2nd rounder, and Vontaze was a UNDFA because of his issues. Everyone knew he was talented. Nico Johnson is a late rounder because of his deficiencies as a player. Alabama had a LB rotation but there’s a reason why he started getting less and less playing time as the season went on last year.

Totally agree; One thing to take a risk on a kid in the first or second...entirely different to take one in the fourth or fifth round.

    Steve Lorenz

  • Just look at who the Lions have drafted past the third round in the last ten years; outside of Avril and probably Shaun Rogers they've literally almost gotten ZERO production from anyone past the second.

^^^^ this. They have had enough problems. All the talk is their down with that kind of crap. Don't need the lions becoming the new Bengals.
