Lewan #15 in Latest Big Board

  • According to ESPN's latest NFL Big Board, Taylor Lewan is at #15.

    He hasn't said anything about his desire for next year because obviously, but that's a great projection to have for him. Not so great for us. It is true that his idol Jake Long had a similar projection but decided to stay and became the #1 pick, so hopefully Lewan learns from Jake.

    If Lewan leaves, yikes. Four new OL and a new QB? That's not good. Plus it raises a lot of questions. Are Braden/Mags ready for LT? Will we decide to put our most experienced OL way out of position at LT?
    My optimistic two deep if he leaves would be:
    LT - Erik Magnuson/Ben Braden
    LG - Kyle Kalis/Blake Bars
    C - Jack Miller/Patrick Kugler
    RG - Joey Burzynski/Chris Bryant
    RT - Mike Schofield/Ben Braden
    That's....scary.

    If Lewan stays, woohoo! Best tackle in the country! We could even shift Schofield back to guard if Mags/Braden are ready.

  • If Lewan leaves, I would imagine Schofield slides over, and we start one of the RS FR at RT.

    me too! next year is gonna be tough but it would help us out tremendously if Lewan stays.

  • Yea, our offense next year is going to be a little scary. It's going to be a long year. Espicially if the OLine has a drop off, which it most likely will when you lose three starters, possibly four. Our starting Oline will look. 1 Senior, 2 Soph, 2 Fresh. It's going to be a very young OLIne.

  • The difference between getting picked around 15, and then getting picked in the Top 7 as the #1 OT is quite a bit of money. I'm cautiously optimistic that he will be back, take the same course Long did.

    The HUGE difference between Long and Lewan though is that Long came back partly because Henne and Hart were coming back to go with Arrington and Manningham and be a top-5 pre-season ranking. Coming back with a loaded team like that would make for an easier decision than coming back knowing you are breaking in 3 new OL and a new QB.

    I hope he comes back, but if he's ready for the NFL, can rep Michigan well, and can show the 2014 OL class that Michigan once again gets guys drafted early, it won't be too disappointing.

    That is a big difference for sure... but I think leaving for the draft comes down to personal more than team. As long as he doesn't suffer a major injury next year, I could only see his stock continuing to rise. Which leads to those guaranteed contracts rising.

    Either way he decides, his future is extremely bright... I haven't heard about him in the weight room, when it comes time for the combine how do you see him grading out in terms of lifting/running/jumping in shorts?
