Assuming Shallman is a a full 6'3", he would be about the same as EG. But since high school heights are generally inflated, it would not surprise me if it turns out that Shallman actually is closer to 6'2". But even at 6'3", he is no bigger than EG. He is not too big to be a RB if he has the talent.

Eddie George was closer to 230 while Shallman already outweighs that by at least 15 lbs, they might be the same height but they are definitely not the same size. By the time Shallman reaches a college weight room he'll probably be closer to 260, Eddie George was never that size.

Oh i am sure they will give him a shot at RB but i am guessing that is dependent upon him remaining around 250.

IIRC Steve Wiltfong was raving about how good he thought Shallman could be at DE.

I was originally hoping we would take Shallman as a DE and Isaac and Smith at RB.

Not that I disagree with you but Clark and Ryan were last minute commits, little different then accepting a 3 star at this point.

Like they said- coaches know more than us! I'll just leave it at that cuz its the truth---3 star Jaron Dukes is a whole different story - 6'5 !!! Morris and Dukes are gonna be beast mode inside the redzone!!!!!

Shallman at TE? Hmm- has enuff speed to be a running back and has height and weight..Sounds good to me- TE are done for this class.. So now we can get smith and Isaac if they choose Michigan!!

  • I know we'll have a third TE in the class. I'm thinking we should probably wait and fill bigger needs before taking that third TE, though. A third CB would probably help us more than third TE and we need interior D-linemen. I know we're going to need that other TE for scheme. A miracle would be if a quality TE was looking to walk-on, like a TE version of Dan Gibbs.

Agreed, I was trying to be conservative with the weight but if the coaches promised him a shot at RB then I'd have to think they know something we don't. It should be interesting, though. He could be a solid bruising RB but he could be ELITE at DE.

I'm sure the coaches will give him a shot at RB, that doesn't mean he stays at RB though.

Would TJ Duckett be a good comparison if he stays at RB?

  • I really question how long Shallman would be at RB too. It's not that he couldn't be a productive RB, he can. I simply think that he would see the field a lot more at DE. I think he could develop into a great DE. With RB being his sole position he would most likely be a situational runner on short-yardage and goal-line.

Where ever Shallman ends up- whether it be running over cam Burrows or puttin a Ohio QB on the grass!! Hes gonna play hard and represent the Maize n blue proudly...

  • Shallman is going to play some FB and blow up some linebackers to open holes for Isaac or Smith. Prolly carry the ball a few times on short yardage/redzone and play some defense if he's good enough....which I think he is. We have a lot of versatile kids who are just pure athletes.

Am I the only one(aside from the coaches, ha) that likes Shallman at HB? I get goosebumps just thinking about a Shallman and Isaac combo. You can't even call it thunder and lightning, since Isaac is much more physical than your typical 'lightning'. I don't know, maybe claymore and sledgehammer? Against the likes of Minnesota Shane won't even have to attempt a pass. With our O-line and a steady dose of Isaac and Shallman, we'll see a lot of defenders taking extra time getting up, a lot of hands on their knees. Defenses are going to be waiving the white flag by the middle of the 3rd quarter.

IMO- he's gonna be too big- which will slow his speed down...6'3 245 now !!! Only gonna get bigger from S&C at the college level- either DE or TE- TE preferable so we don't use another scollie on a different player with a similar skill set.... Let's go get some big time play makers!!!! If not coach hoke wasn't playin around talkin about "man ball" !!!haha

You might be right about his size slowing his speed down in the future and if so he may very well move to DE. But if you watch his film right now he's far from slow. I think he has enough speed to make his smashmouth running style effective. Larry Csonka was 6'3 240 lb, so it's possible Shallman can be effective.

Speed is the issue, but otherwise, this is pretty much always where I envisioned Shallman.

  • Here is a Sam Webb article discussing how the coaches plan to use Shallman. According to Shallman, it is as a running back and that was a major factor in his decision to pick the Wolverines.

I think there is no question he begins at RB in his career...whether he stays there is largely up to his body.

Shallman will probably be similar to Hopkins. Get the ball on goal line/short yardage situations and block/catch out of the backfield.

I would think that Rawls will share the 2nd option with Smith.

Indeed! Fitz is great, but Rawls has looked like a beast everytime he's carried (even if it was just cleanup duty).

Exactly what I was thinking! I remember getting so excited when we signed Hopkins, and the reports out of Spring Practice further fueled the excitement, with everyone saying he was absolutely KILLING IT in terms of being hard to tackle, getting lots of yards after, etc. Shallman's body/skills remind me a little of Hopkins, so I shudder to think whether I'm setting myself up for another huge disappointment. There's a reason why most guys this size just simply do not pan out as a solid contributing RB at the Div-I level. Put him at TE or DE, but let's not plan on sending him between the tackles. Not every oversized ball carrier can be Brandon Jacobs.

  • How big was Toby Gerhart at Standford? He has always been a power runner and I believe he was the FB at Stanford but the dude got a ton of carries and was a beast. Having Shallman and Isaac on the field at the same time would be trouble for opposing D's for sure.

  • I don't know what we're arguing about....Shallman will get carries. He'll get his FB Dives, Trap plays, screens, passes out in the flat. The kid is a baller and that is why Coach Freddy wants him as a running back. #1 responsibility: protect Shane #2 responsibility: blow up holes for Isaac #3 responsibility: punish tacklers while gettin first downs. The coaches recruited him as a FB/RB and thats what he'll start off being because if he's not then we lose credibility and end up like Urban.

Gerhart was around 6'0 230 lbs at least that is what I looked up last night...can't remember the site

  • I think we are going to use Shallman in an H Back role sort of like UF uses Trey Burton. He’ll line up at RB, FB, and TE. He’s one of my favorite prospects out of this class because of his versatility.
