I sincerely hope the coaches can get McDowell. He is the single most important recruit in 2014. Don't like the fact that he is visiting Columbus soon.

What is the word on him? He seems to be low-key.

  • We will be taking 3/4 DL in this class. This day will be a distant memory when we pull McDowell, Hand, and Mone.

That's the thing, I'm not sure what the word is. I thought Notre Dame was the team to watch out for but with his planned visit to OSU coming up, we may have to start worrying about them as well.

Come on Clarkw, do not let the facts matter.LOL OSU fans saying they are not recruiting and were not recruiting Ferns is like us saying we are still not recruiting Webb. It's BS.

Ferns committed in August, looks like he clearly knew where he wanted to go. 95 composite rating, hellva player.

The names we keep hearing that Meyer is after (we need to sign 3):

Raekwon McMillan (247 rating - 98, composite 99) - From Georgia. Lists OSU as his number one. Will still be hard as hell to pull him out of the south
Dante Booker (247 rating - 96, composite 97) From Ohio
Kyler Berger (247 rating and composite both 90) From Ohio
And a chance at Clifton Garrett from IL - 97 rating. Don't know if he is interested in OSU, but hear Meyer is chasing him.

I think an interesting battle will be for M. McDowell. I know Meyer and Hoke both are after him.

We have to worry about everyone when it comes to McDowell. Kid is a beast and everyone will pull out all the stops to get him.

The only thing I want to see Michigan do is get these kids on campus earlier. Perhaps our ball schedule simply isn't working in our favor for that this year. I mean, we don't have marquee home games on the weekend for a few weeks still.

  • Oh look, the trolls and the "sky is falling" crowds are out in full force.

It hurts because Marshall committed now, early? What type of nonsense is that? It would have hurt way more if he drug it out to signing day and chose OSU and we would have lost out on him and had no time to develop relationships and offer other kids. We have had great DL classes every year since Hoke got here. It's akin to freaking out that we lost out on a single OL kid - it makes 0 logical sense.

Yeah, it sucks to lose out on a top 5 kid in-state with an offer, but it's nothing we haven't done to them, every single year since Hoke got here. But some of you guys are too busy freaking out to think about that. We have done what they are doing, 3 years in a row now.

And who cares that they are getting a bunch of commits now, we did the same last year, in the end we were both at the top of the rankings. I believe both schools have smaller classes this year, but both will again be up among the better recruiting classes yet again.

You guys can go back to panicking now. smh.

    Per TomVH.

    Blah.

Patiently waiting for our class to kick into gear. Don't like losing Marshall.

Meh. Look for a late flip to USC. Probably in December after Kiffin gets fired and they hire someone competent who is scrambling to fill out their class.

He's right though. Marshall isn't that big of a deal but Webb is.

I understand the disappointment about Webb, but Marshall? Michigan pulled in 14 guys ranked higher than him this year alone. And we already have Ojemudia and Taco at his spot so it's not like he's some desperate need (like WR). Let's be honest, if it wasn't Ohio no one would care.

Exactly. McDowell is special and Webb is needed. But Marshall is easily replaced.

It is always funny to me how fan bases spin every commit a different way. OSU fans had nothing but terrible things to say about Cass Tech players before Webb committed. Michigan high school football was a joke and their players weren't shit until OSU just landed two kids from MI. Now they are beasts.

And do you really care about numerical rankings that much? Can your eyes tell the difference between a guy rated 95 vs. 97?

Woodson, dang, you sure have gotten edgy since your days as a daily poster at Bucknuts. To answer your question, no, I doubt there is much difference between a 95 and 97 guy. I think you got a good one in Ferns, a player that Meyer probably wanted. We missed out on him. I am simply telling you the other players OSU is after because we are very thin at LB. Hence football discussion. I have never heard an OSU fan trash Cass Tech, its a big name school like Glenville.

the state of Michigan will have 6-8 top players. The state of Ohio will have usually anywhere form 15-30 top players. Urban can't hang on to all of them it's impossible. The little bit of talent the state of Michigan produces needs to be kept at home. The last two classes Hoke did that with great success. This year it appears it will not happen.Hopefully Mallik, Harris, Dole, and Ways will stay home. If that happens we will be in good shape.

Never heard OSU fans trash Cass Tech? Do you read BN? Every time Michigan gets a kid from there the school is trashed on BN. Ohiost83 and a few others lead the charge.

  • We won't know if losing Marshall is a big deal until 2-3 years later from now.

For all we know, he could blow up like Jonathan Hankins and get drafted in the 1st round.

On the bright side there is a ton of good DL we are in on. On the not so bright side, we need quick twitch pass rushers that can get to the QB.

Gelen Robinson would be a good option, kid is going to be a player regardless of his size, ranking, or offers.

I've wanted Robinson in the 2014 class for months.

I read BN every day. Have for 5 years. Honestly can say I have not heard any trash about Cass Tech.

Now back to football discussion - which I actually enjoy. Who is MU going after at WR? We are thin at LB and OL, clearly. Looks like MU would like to add some playmakers on the outside. Who are you in on?

  • To be honest I'm okay with losing Marshall because of the fact that were on so much good DE's this year. Always sucks losing a player in state but the coach's want to take their time with this class and make sure they get the best player's because it's a much smaller class then the 2013 class was. Urb just wants to take kids from MI just to boast about it let him that's how the dude is he is a soar loser because Hoke has been killing it in Ohio. As for worrying about losing a lot of in state player's this kinda happens to us every few years where one class just want's to be diff kinda like the Rojo class was that all left the state. Im not worried at all. In Hoke I trust.

I don't think he has that kind of upside, personally (but what do I know? not much). To me he's more of a Se'Von Pittman type--solid 4 star DE who'll add depth, but not wow you. I'd say Se'Von Pittman has more potential than Marshall.

I agree with those who've said that Malik McDowell is the real prize DE out of Michigan this year. Not to hate on Marshall at all. He's thin yet, not great speed, but a solid pass-rusher. Malik McDowell is going to be a future starter, likely All-American for any team in the country he chooses.

First, if you want to have a football discussion on a Michigan board than call the team by their proper name. It is UM, UMich, Michigan, etc. not MU. I don't come to BN and call OSU "Ohio".

Second, I don't think Michigan is in need of adding playmakers on the outside. That is pure OSU propaganda. Michigan landed a couple of 4 star WR two classes ago and hybrid Funchess. They added 3 more WR last year, one I love in Jones, and two others with great size. They also have Jake Butt coming in. Michigan's passing game will be just fine.

A few of the bigger names at WR Michigan is after include Harris, Scott (FL), and Holmes (FL). They have offered Lattimore from Glenville, but I don't consider him a real option.

  • To add on to what c.woodson said, I think we have a better shot at Scott than OSU does, but I also think OSU will probably get Harris.
