Lawrence Marshall to tOSU

  • neoavatara said...

Agreed. But still, when Urban is taking our hometown prospects early...that is a bad sign. It is not the end of the world, we will have a good class, but it is still not good.

    Couldn't agree more.

Like I said earlier, there is a decent chance we miss out on the top 4 players in Michigan.

Landing McDowell is a MUST, and keeping Drake away from tOSU is also a must.

Looks like he is building a machine.

I understand the disappointment about Webb, but Marshall? Michigan pulled in 14 guys ranked higher than him this year alone. And we already have Ojemudia and Taco at his spot so it's not like he's some desperate need (like WR). Let's be honest, if it wasn't Ohio no one would care.

It sucks losing a top target to any school. Going to OSU definitely makes it worse.

Signing day is a year away. Webb is a top 100 player, Marshall has upside, but he's not as good as Taco from this years class.

Westphal and Webb are very comparable

And we are in on a number of other guys at both CB and DE.

You should check out the scout board... you'd love it there.

  • I don't know what to think. We are going to get shut out of our own state this year. I am not confident about Harris, and we have already lost Webb and Marshall.
Gotta step their game up. I don't know what Coach Coombs is doing, but he's doing amazing.

    Jack Daniels

  • You never want to lose a top player to a rival, but it happens. Michigan took Ferns from Ohio and they turned around and took two from Michigan. Just the way recruiting works.

I like Marshall, but there are plenty of others out there with similar game and potential. Look at Joe Henderson from Cleveland, OH. He has a Michigan offer and basically the same ranking as Marshall. Get him and call it even.

Friendly OSU fan here My son goes to Central and I have seen Taco numerous times. Kid passes look test but does not have the killer instinct. Too nice of a kid. He won't give you any problems but I don't see him as a difference maker

Just like he's a second stringer as well?

I'll sack tap him when I see him around. That should do the trick.

Meyer is a hell of a talent evaluator.

No he's not. He follows recruiting rankings.

Speaking on his signing day radio show, Meyer said the Big Ten must examine its recruiting practices.
"Our whole conversation needs to be about 'How do we recruit?' " he said. "When you see 11 of the SEC teams are in the top 25, that’s something that we need to continue to work on and improve."

B1G Recruiting: OSU, UM Clean Up

We examine each of the football recruiting classes in the Big Ten. Top signees include QB Christian Hackenberg (PSU), CB Cam Burrows (OSU) and QB Shane Morris (Michigan).

  • The bigger question is, how are they getting all of these kids to visit campus week after week? Webb, Harris, Marshall, McDowell....they all have planned out visits or have already taken them to Columbus. We haven't gotten any of these guys on campus in forever.

    Jack Daniels

  • I'm not gonna lie, I'll be scared when Harris and McDowell get to Columbus for their visits.

    Jack Daniels

  • I hate that he chose ohio, but I don't see him as elite. If (BIG IF I know) we get Hand & McDowell this will be completely forgotten. Even if we strike out on those 2, I think we'll get comparable talent to Marshall. The coaches need to clamp down in-state, we don't want to take these kids for granted & watch them go to rival schools.

OSU fan here, not trying to troll, just talk football. I am surprised, but Meyer is so incredibly aggressive, its not like anything we were used to under Tressel. Michigan is a top program, and is one of the few midwest schools, like OSU, who can recruit nationally, so I have no doubt you guys will land another top class.

Top WR Snodgrass tried to commit in Nov. and Meyer wouldn't let him, his offer is still not committable. So for Meyer to take Marshall at this point, he must think he is a hell of a ball player. He's already 4 star with a 90 rating from 247, but it might go higher. When we took our ZEKE's commitment last April, he was rated 85 by 247, but ended up going all the way up to a 95 rating. Meyer is a hell of a talent evaluator. Understand you guys want Lattimore, but he will be a Buckeye by this spring.

There's a lot of talent in Ohio again this year, even more than in the 2013 class and OSU only has about 20 schollies. I have no doubt Michigan will land some top Ohio talent again in 2014. OSU and Michigan just need the rest of the BIG to step up and start recruiting harder so our league can stay competitive.

FYI...there is no real football talk in this post, just some failed attempt at humble bragging.

Be interesting to see how many people even remember who Marshall is when he sees the field for the first time 3 years from now.

  • Webb was a loss. Marshall, I'm not so sure. Both prospects can be replaced by comparable prospects.

Michigan will be fine on the DL because of the quality coaches on staff. I do think Michigan needs an elite corner in next year's class, though.

Next season on the field is going to be very important. Michigan needs to win the conference.

    michigandot

  • they got the RB from Saint Vincent to commit today as well. Looks like they are doing what we did last year (early commits, and a ton at a basketball game lol).

I hope IU continues to kick ass and win. Idk if OSU winning would help Michigan or not

Ummmm have been going to all home games for 3 years. Don't get me wrong good kid just does not play at elite level like he looks.

    He will be solid

He will have three defensive line coaches on him. Our coaches recruit on potential. He has all the potential in the world. There is nothing anyone can say to claim Taco will or wont be great. We all have to wait and see how he develops, but Mattison is a huge fan of Taco's game and therefore I'm excited to see how he turns out.

Fair enough woodson. Question, did Ferns have an OSU offer? I ask because I really don't remember.

I'm not interested in Ohio players Michigan takes that OSU doesn't even offer. I'd like to measure the success rate of when they both offer and go up against each other.

He did. But he eliminated you guys because he recognized how shitty Columbus was.

Pretty much the only post in this thread worth paying attention to. You people are reacting like we just lost out on Lawrence Taylor. You would think that after the past two classes our staff has signed that there would be a little more faith in what they're doing. If you're this stressed out about losing Lawrence Marshall less than a week after signing day you should probably take a break from following recruiting because you probably aren't going to make it until signing day 2014.
