Laser Rocket or Bellomy in 2013?

  • Redshirting is nice and all, but the schedule is pretty much a joke to start the year so let's watch the kid develop. Should be at least 6-1 going into the MSU game.

  • Would rather have Morris RS and start Bellomy or Gardner next year.

  • RS Morris, start Bellomy, give Bellomy two big targets in Gardner and Funchess. Give Brian Cleary the 3rd string job.

I think the Gardner ship has sailed. Hopefully he realizes WR gives him the best shot to play at the next level. He really could be a stud.

I agree. It all comes down to his mindset though. He still calls himself a QB, and if he thinks of himself as a QB, he won't devote all of his time and energy to being the best WR he can be. If he focuses solely on WR, he'll be a great one.

I think the QB job should be Bellomy's, but if he doesn't impress enough, Shane will get every opportunity as a freshman. Could pull a Henne.

That's what I'm talking about. Gardner can play poor man's Braylon and Rawls poor man's Hart.

  • As far as Garnder goes I am not sold on him as an NFL Wr by any means. He has shown some flashes but he has not shown the hands needed to be a good NFL WR. He has dropped too many catchable balls this year.

I don't know why everyone just wants to give the starting QB job to Bellomy. I seriously hope the coaches are not thinking the same thing. I would much prefer a serious competition and the starter is whoever wins the job in the Spring.

Gardner will compete for the job. He wants to be the QB. There is no way Hoke will go through spring practice with just one Scollie QB. I think if its close either way Bellomy wins it and we get a 2 for 1 with Gardner back to Wr.

  • Difficult to say. If Shane came in early, that might make one a little less reluctant to toss him directly into the fire, but since he doesn't report until the summer...

Laser rocket all the way!!! Michigan will go thru ups n downs with Morris starting as a frosh. Come sophomore year, Kid will be ready to lead the team!

    Slugjuice

  • I'll let the coaches sort it out next fall.

Morris cannot enroll early which will hurt his chances greatly.
Bellomy and Gardner will be the best option. But its clear how much the coaches live bellomy, he is the backup now and should get more pt as the year goes on. The people reciting bellomys chances to start are lying to themselves or not hearing what the coaches have said.

And yes I'm referring to the movie white men can't jump. I can hear jimmy...

    Unfortunately, he can't enroll early.

I don't see any way to RS Morris. Bellomy will get the starter reps in spring and leading into next season. Gardner will not have had even No. 2 qb reps for well over a year by the time the season starts as he is and will be primarily a wr. Got to have three playable qbs on the depth chart. No way a season can be put at risk by a walk on if there is an injury so that puts Morris on the active roster. It will sort itself out though. Maybe one of the walk ons will turn out to be a stud, but it is unlikely.

Gardner is still getting reps at QB

I'm going to go out and start buying 2014 Rose Bowl tickets right now then! We would shatter every offensive record known to man if Ryan was our QB. He wouldn't even have to stiff arm anybody, he would just point and the defenders would drop in their tracks and curl into the fetal position. God save anybody that actually tries to tackle him...

Seriously though, RS Morris and give Bellomy every opportunity to be our QB next year. Our OL is going to be very very very green next year so let them gel. If Bellomy does good then Shane gets one more year to learn and grow in the system, and if Bellomy falters then Shane can take the position in '14 behind an young and talented OL with experience, a Sr. Rawls and the rest of our stable of RB's, our versatile TE's, and (hopefully) a very skilled group of playmakers at WR. However, if he really is that good that you can't keep him off the field then roll with him next year and hope for the best but our best option long term would be for him to sit for at least a year.

  • I watched Bellomy in the 5A playoffs down here when he was at Arlington Martin, he was committed to Purdue at that time. The young man is smart, tough, great athlete, and makes good decisions. I think Gardner gets every opportunity to play next year, but I wouldn't be surprised if Bellomy flat out wins the spot.

I was ecstatic when he flipped to Michigan after watching him in person, for the record.

  • The coaches are going to give all 3 guys a shot next year. So we'll see. The idea that Gardner is going to be at WR for sure isn't happening though. He's going to get a chance to win the QB job.

Obviously since Morris can't enroll early he's going to be behind the other 2 guys. If I had to bet right now my money would be on Gardner, but I like Bellomy more than most. And if Shane wins the job, it will be because he comes in and is simply too good to keep off the field.

  • I think Bellomy and Gards both play QB. I see Borges throwing DG in some wild cat sets and other formations to give the offense another dimension which its lost through Denard leaving, also while leaving both Bellomy and Gards on the field at the same time irrespective of who is QB

  • I say you start Bellomy with Shane as the backup. And you do everything in your power to keep Bellomy healthy so ideally he plays every snap and Shane can RS.

I love Shane and think he will be a beast, but I just don't like the thought of starting a true freshman at QB. It limits us too much in the playbook IMO, and we would be better off with Bellomy or Gardner (IMO Bellomy wins that comp) bridging the gap.

Agreed....DG plays if Bellomy is hurt, a Shane only plays if those 2 cant
