LB situation

I would, think Anzalone is a player he is 6'3" hitter with really good speed.

Anzalone is a bit raw, but looks like a great athlete with strength and speed to spare. He seems to have no problem rushing the passer, but also dropping back into coverage:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRqEOKgRWLk

His speed really is on display starting in the offense section about 3 minutes in. He really leaves DBs in the dust. I realize you guys probably don't care since he's not even visiting now, but I still think you'll feel you're getting your money's worth if you check out 30 seconds or so of a little D and a little O.

He looks like a heavy OSU lean judging from his Twitter account (main pic is with him and Urban Meyer and RTs a lot of Buckeye stuff), but you guys absolutely must be full to turn away his visit.

We're very full right now...in fact taking 3 LB's is probably stretching our limits. Anzalone looks like an absolute monster on offense.

  • Coach from the Toledo area that is really good at breaking down talent said that Gedeon has an AJ Hawk type feel to his game.... Much like Joe Bolden has... Might not wow you with combine stats but will tackle everything in sight and rarely get beat.... Same guy thinks McCray and Levenberry have quite a bit of developing to do but if they can reach their peak, look the hell out.

I'm not sure you can take much from his twitter account picture. He's obviously interested in OSU, but saying he's a heavy lean is a pretty strong overstatement in my opinion. PSU, Stanford and ND are three other schools that are very much in things for Anzalone, and I'm not sure you can name favorites quite yet.

By the way, thanks to Michigan for filling up at LB (seriously, is Gedeon the other one? I heard that and came here looking for more commitment news because I didn't think you had filled up). I was very happy to hear Anzalone is visiting PSU this weekend instead.

I know - he's being recruited by everyone on D, but he actually is one of the better looking RB/WR hybrids I've seen, with maybe Isaac being the best of this class, and I'll consider Foster more of a pure WR.

He's like the opposite of Diggs, who everyone was recruiting on offense, but looked more impressive as a CB to me at least.

We don't know if Gedeon is the other spot, just speculating.

Its still early, I will grant you that. He seems to pride himself on academics, so I consider Stanford more of the wild card right now, but who knows? He is visiting OSU again in April, though.

Exactly...Robert Foster had a twitter pic of him in a PSU jersey after the Penn State junior day. Still means nothing, in my opinion, or at least very little. Most of these pictures have a rush of emotion attached to them, like wearing a college jersey or wearing a bunch of rings. But reality is different and the rush of adrenaline subsides.

I actually think the Twitter pics and tweets provide some of the best clues... which I guess officially makes me a pathetic stalker. For the record, I don't tweet these kids or even have a Twitter account, though.

McCray (commit)....Gedeon (silent?)....O'Daniel (#1 his list)...Levenberry (#1 on his list)....we're taking them all and I think they all have a better upside than Anzalone. Anzalone is a great prospect and anyone would be lucky to have him but I wouldn't trade those 4 for anyone.

Why are you so high on Gedeon? I'm not seeing it. Good gives Anzalone more time on his visit to ND.

I have seen Gedeon live, and he is a star in the making. I have never seen Anzalone, so cannot make a comparison.

I'm not really a big fan of Anzalone, not very good in coverage. Ben Gedeon is a beast and a crazy athlete.

Ha, I know, I got excited when that pic was changed. Sure, the clues aren't always perfect and kids change their minds, but I think Twitter can be reflective of current thoughts and also show how those thoughts change.

If I was a top recruit I would not have an account, though, b/c there really only is downside to the NCAA, coaches (see Yuri Wright), etc seeing your Tweets. Its only a matter of time in my opinion until there is some sort of NCAA investigation involving Twitter.

Well I watch Anzalone's defensive highlights and he always seems to be behind the receiver and tackles him after he gains 3-5 yards. Gedeon, if you watch his offensive highlights as well as his defensive highlights, you will notice his crazy athleticism and he has pretty good technique with tackling.

Is Gedeon a two-way player? Anzalone doesn't get to focus strictly on the D side of the ball. Once he makes the move to LB full-time he'll be able to work on positioning and fundamentals a lot more.

Gedeon is a 2-way player that could star at any position you put him at. He is a total football player.

He played everything at his high school, even believe he played QB for awhile.

I didn't follow LTT so can't speak to the full body of evidence. Pulling up his Twitter account now, I can see he posted a number of pics in the pics file from Michigan, Alabama and Wisconsin. Given he posted a full road trip file I'd probably put less weight on those pics. Anzalone has the pic with Meyer as his main pic and RTs a lot of OSU stuff, so I think that is encouraging. We'll see.

To give another example, McCray starting giving shout outs to Michigan players on Twitter about a week before he committed, which was a good sign he was going to Michigan.

Regardless, most people on these 247 boards (including myself) get excited for and try to analyze any clue about a recruit they can find. Those clues aren't always usefull, but if its generally accepted that people should get pumped when a player is spotted in the drive-through at Burger King wearing a Maize and Blue hat then there's no reason to automatically dismiss anything that appears on Twitter.
