  • Haha. When we played at Iowa my freshman year at Minnesota I didn't even know how to feel about the pink locker room. I was trying to get in and out as fast as possible. I didn't think every single last detail would be pink. This locker room does kind of play with your head before the game because your trying to concentrate for the game and all you can think about is this odd locker room.

  • The visiting locker room is one of the stops on the recruiting tour at Iowa, and the recruits always talk about how hilarious they think it is.

I assume the sentiment is not the same at another school in the conference??

I think it is pretty unsportsmanlike and would be embarrassed if we had the same thing at Michigan.

It isn't pretty unsportsmanlike, it's extremely unsportsmanlike. But football and sportsmanship have kind of an on and off type of rocky relationship. I mean this is a sport where when guys gouge another guy's eyes in the pile or when a team gets caught putting bounties on opponents..most of the players, both active and retired, seem to defend it as something commonly done.

I don't think there's another sport where the "win at all cost" mentality is as widespread as it is in football.

Not sure what you mean. Can you elaborate?

I agree that it's not the most sportsmanlike thing there is, but at least the visiting team has the use of a fully functioning locker room. Especially in basketball and football, there are dozens of teams at all levels throughout history that have intentionally turned off the hot water, failed to fix lockers, refused to clean, etc. The pink locker room is obviously done to give Iowa an edge, no matter how slight, but I do think there have been much less sportsmanlike moves committed by teams in all sports.
