Key staying in touch with UM staff

Broken Arrow (Okla.) High school quarterback Coleman Key has been in contact wit the Michigan coaches since attending summer camp. Another visit to Ann Arbor could be on tap.

  • It could mean something that Key is the only 2014 QB invited to the BBQ at the Big House. I think that Key will start picking up some offers after highlights from his first couple games next season. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

  • He is one of my favorite QB targets in the 2014 class, would be awesome to grab him or Chance Stewart to go with someone like Deshone Kizer.

  • Clint, wasn't Drew Barker invited to the BBQ as well? I know he was supposed to camp but couldn't make it up, so, maybe that's why he was invited?

Yeah good call. Maybe Barker can't make it because Key is under the impression he would be the only 14' QB there if he goes. I will check in with Barker and see.

  • Sounds like Key really impressed the Michigan coaches this summer. With the 2012 and 2013 offensive linemen and skill position players the Wolverines have landed, Ann Arbor would seem to be a preferred destination for 2014 quarterbacks, as the pieces will be in place for them to succeed.

Key was my dark horse pick to be the first '14 QB to receive an offer from Michigan. It's starting to look like an offer could be forthcoming sooner rather than later. I wonder just how tough of a pull Key would be for Michigan. You have to believe that Oklahoma & Oklahoma St. will be very much involved in his recruitment.

Thanks. I know he wants to visit. I wish we'd lock down a '14 commit early so they'd recruit like Shane.

Yeah Drew Barker said he is hoping to attend when I talked to him two weeks ago so something could have changed. I like how Michigan is being really thorough in their evaluation of the 2014 QB's. Michigan has put themselves in a place where they can really take a hard look at who they want and take their time because of how well they have recruited this past year.

absolutely, bein so far ahead in recruiting and having such a good class has given them the opportunity to sit back and hand pick a guy at a pivotal position and they are taking full advantage
