Jourdan Lewis

  • I've seen a ton of discussion about Jourdan Lewis potentially playing WR at Michigan. I know he's coming in as a CB, but what's the likelihood of him actually playing on the offensive side of the ball, and what do you all prefer he play? He's proven to be a lockdown corner, but his size (weight, just to clarify) may prevent him from stepping on the field as a true freshman. He could be a nice change-up on offense given his quickness and speed, but Gallon could prevent him from seeing the field there as well. I'm excited to see what the coaches have in plan for him.

  • I'm really not sure what side of the ball he truly belongs on. He has played both ways throughout high school, so even if he does switch over to WR, he has experience at it.

    I'm sure the coaches will try him out on both sides in fall camp and from there determine what side he has more potential at/can be an early impact.

    With the lack of college ready receivers coming in, I would personally like to see him on offense this fall.

    His performance in San Antonio was excellent at corner; for a while I would have personally preferred him on offense, especially after they missed out on some slot guys like Alvin Bailey. I know the coaches had mentioned it to him before, but it sounded like it was more in jest than anything else. I'd expect him to play defensive back at Michigan.

    I think I prefer him on the defensive side as well. Is it possible we see some offensive sets with him at WR?

  • I think under this staff that most players who could play both ways will probably end up on defense.

    Hey I've got an idea....actually recruit kids at the positions you want them to play. Its BS that we cant land any legitimate WR's, so were gonna craft somebody to play other positions to fill holes because created by the recruiting class. Fill the holes in the recruiting class to begin with.

    cant do that when you got denard throwing. recruits are gonna wait till they see the new offense and qb

  • Defense first. Always. At least I hope thats the mentality of this coaching staff.

    The fact that Jourdan Lewis could play wr if needed is a good thing. But as the op first stated he could be a lockdown corner. And we could use a couple of lockdown corners. We don't know if Blake will come back 100%.

    We have a chance to have a really good defense next year. The front seven positions look very good. The secondary will be the big question going into the fall. I see Dymonte Thomas, Jourdan Lewis and Ross Douglass as db's who will probably play as true freshman. Thomas and Douglass were early enrollees.

  • WR's like Lewis are a dime a dozen... as a CB he's a rarity.

    This is my sentiment too, and rightfully so. Depth at defensive back, especially CB, will be key going forward.

    You have definitely not watched his highlights. Kid would be big time on either side of the ball. He just fits in on defense better, and like jimtaco and Steve have already said - the DC is gonna win this argument everytime on this staff.

    I have watched his HL's... a 5'11 WR w/ quickness and playmaking ability are literally all over the country.

    A 5'11 CB w/ hips and ballplaying skills like Lewis are cream of the crop.

    Where do you have him in regards to WR's coming out this year?

    I believe he is a better CB prospect than WR, I'm just saying that he would be a great receiver prospect if the staff felt the need was greater there.

    I agree with that, but his ceiling is so high at CB i'd hate for him to waste a year of development playing WR. I don't think he'd be any higher than 5th on the WR depth chart next year.
