Is the Gap between OSU/UM and rest of BIG a good thing?

  • buttesnake said...

With the way defense is emphasized in the B1G, I don't really see much of a gap going forward. Just look at this list of B1G champs. Note how many different teams have won it over the last 30 years (~1983).

    Really?

tOSU has 8 in the last 10 years if you remove the *'s, so to say it is not a gap talent wise would be incorrect. tOSU won a share in 2010 and was the only undefeated in 2012. That makes "8 times" over the last decade where OSU had the best team in the conference or was tied for that spot.

We can argue about the 2 that don't reflect in Wiki but no one thinks that Wisky was a more talented team than OSU after they lost H2H and OSU went undefeated in 2012. When you win or share the title in 8 of the last 10 years that screams lack of parity. I don't care what asteric you want to use to say otherwise. Even if you only count 6 in the last 10 that doesn't exactly reflect equality either.

To address the question in the thread, yes the rest of the BIG needs to step up but I wont hold my breath.

Or one of the mods could just delete the post and ban him. shrug

Yeah, but that's a lot of work for the mods when the vast majority of Bucknuts who wander over here behave like that. I'd much rather the system work the other way around - the mods can approve certain posters, but any idiot with an internet connection can't just start posting on our board.

The gap between OSU and Minnesota is very large. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or not. Probably not good for the Gophers.

Stop cheating and there won't be asterisks to worry about.

Why can't you read? No one is talking about a gap between OSU and UM. The sentence does not read that way.

"...the use of the slash is to replace the hyphen or en dash to make a clear, strong joint between words or phrases, such as "the Hemingway/Faulkner generation"

In this OSU and UM are "joined" and set off from "the rest of the big ten" in the question by a slash. (Of course, you also ignore the phrase "rest of the Big Ten" in your witty response that seems to make fun of the phrasing of the question.)

If you are going to troll based on a petty little thing such as grammar..... at least be right about it.

I'm the OP, and there has been a gap between my team and the rest of the BIG, and now with UM's recruiting getting them out of the RR years, it SEEMS that there very well could be a gap between My Team, UM and then the rest of the BIG. Not many indications of the other teams in the BIG doing much to dispell that thought. You can say what you want, but one poster has already listed the BCS bowl games OSU has played, and this year, when OSU wasn't able to represent the BIG, a 5 loss team won the conference. That's a GAP my friend.

I don't think we should be held accountable for Nebraska choking and the PSU sanctions. It certainly wasn't OSU .......gap....... Wisco this year. That gap was filled with PSU, Nebraska (regardless of the chokejob in Indy) and Michigan. And despite all of our struggles this year, we beat Wisco in Madison and would have won that division if we were in it and been in Indy. I do agree that there is a gap, but it still rests at OSU, then the rest of us, with the potential for a UM, Nebraska, PSU (after the sanctions), MSU and Wisco (Wait and see how Anderson pans out) able to make a push and be right up there with OSU every year.

We aim a little higher than the Rose Bowl....But all of you in East Lansing keep the Rose Bowl dream alive.....Maybe one day.

I guess your aim is pretty off. Hope you aren't a gun owner.

It's a town full of losers. I'm pulling out of here to win!

Really? So striving to play in NC games isn't higher than Rose Bowl?

Sparty fans don't ackowledge any of the attrition that happened, especially on defense.
He "had" some good recruiting classes, until a lot of them transferred.

Case in point 15 members of the 2010 class are no longer on the team, that's a pretty ridiculous amount of attrition

But, but, Michigan had top classes with Rich Rod and didn't so well so top classes won't change anything with Hoke!!!!!!!!!

You obviously have to go by the ranking and cannot go back and look at it later. I mean, Michigan must still have all those players that signed their LOI and they must not have developed.

Urban just closed with the top class in the country. If you still think Joke is recruiting on a similar level as Urban you are on drugs and should be sent to the freaking moon.

They're already on the moon. They're the most delusional fan base in the history of sports. One would think that the dick rod era would've brought them back to earth, nope.

Jeebus, that's all we heard last year was how MSU was Rose Bowl bound and Paul Bunyan was going to be a 5th year senior. You ended up needint to beat Minnesota to finish the regular season 6-6 and bowl eligible, a win that was program defining according to coach d.

That's right. No way in hell can we compete with osu when their class is 2nd and ours is 5th! Just not good enough. lol

And when all was said and done, you finished one game better than us...and you needed a field goal in the last 10 seconds to beat us in Ann Arbor. Congratulations on the big gap that you've created. thumbsup

Most of those were there for the 2010 season, but that class had little impact on RichRod's success (or lack there of). What was the attrition on the previous 5 years, in which UM had three Top 10 and two Top 15 classes? And who's to say that you won't have attrition from this class or last year's class? Probably not 15 players, but I believe the point that you're making, and one which many are agreeing with, is that it doesn't matter what the ranking is on NSD. What matters is how the classes pan out 2, 3, 4, and 5 years down the road.

So then, why are UM fans celebrating recruiting victories NOW, when your own argument (again, with a lot of agreement from others here) states that it doesn't reflect what will happen when they see (or don't see) the field?
