Is the Gap between OSU/UM and rest of BIG a good thing?

    Wisconsin went to 3 Rose Bowls in the 90s.. and won them all..

    Fair point, but that's not what the OP claimed. Your numbers show a gap between OHIO STATE and the rest of the Big Ten.

    I'm the OP, and there has been a gap between my team and the rest of the BIG, and now with UM's recruiting getting them out of the RR years, it SEEMS that there very well could be a gap between My Team, UM and then the rest of the BIG. Not many indications of the other teams in the BIG doing much to dispell that thought. You can say what you want, but one poster has already listed the BCS bowl games OSU has played, and this year, when OSU wasn't able to represent the BIG, a 5 loss team won the conference. That's a GAP my friend.

    Frankly, there is no gap at this point. Let's be honest. We lost 5 games last year. We haven't won the Big 10 in 8/9 years. We had the RR debacle.

    If you're talking about recruiting, ok. I get it. Both teams have been impressive. But this talk about OSU and Michigan separating themselves from the rest of the Big 10 is embarrassing.

    Let's actually separate ourselves before talking about it.

    This^^^^ and they also pay good $$$$$ for top coaches. The acc, big east, big 12 and pac 10's bowl schedules are laughable to the B1G's year in and out. The bowl record argument is flawed

    Didn't Rich Rod have 2 top 10 classes and 3 top 25 classes?

    I don't know about that, but I do know that recruiting and coaching are two different things. RR may have recruited well, again I don't know, but he obviously didn't get as much out of them as BH did in his first year. Same applies to good coaches at schools that can't recruit the 5 star kids. A good coach can coach up less talented kids, a bad coach can not get much out of great talent (Kiffen), but if you happen to get a good coach and great recruiting then you have something.

    You can't retroactively look at the classes though and then reclassify them..

    ON NSD, Rich Rod brought into UM top 10 classes.. sure, there was tons of attrition, but you can't backdate and say- well these guys left or didn't perform, so this class actually was a lot lower..

    Conversely, MSU fans can't backdate some of their classes to be better than they were rated on NSD because some lower ranked guys ended up being great

    He had one that was 9th and one that was 19th. The 19th one half the players never even saw the field. Brady Hoke's class last year was 7th and this year is 4th. There is a huge difference.

    That's just not true.

    Edit: I just realized you are an OSU fan. I live in Cbus, and people here expect to be in the NT title conversation every year. Michigan is not there yet, and it may never happen. I'd be happy to be back to contending for the B1G every year, and I think UM is close. As far as recruiting goes, it would seem the talent gap is widening, but you still have to play the games.

    Sure you can.....each class is ranked on potential (RR only had 1 top 10 class in 2009, and it was like #9). When nearly 50% of your 2009 and 2010 classes are no longer with the program by the 2012 season, that attrition inherently makes those classes far inferior on what they were projected to be.
