MSU has had an inferiority complex since the dawn of time. I can remember sitting in classes and having professors explain why MSU has an inferiority complex against us. It used to baffle me. Then I realized one day .... they were just jealous.
Brings back an old phrase we used to sing in the student section ... "That's all right ... that's ok ... your gonna work for us someday."

They have an inferiority complex because they're inferior. It's really self explanatory.
I'm a student at U of M but I'm fine being called a Walverine, it still places me above Spartans on the ladder of life.

who do you root for when UM plays PSU? i can't fathom how people go to one school, yet cheer for another. I go to MSU, and MSU is in my blood. it doesn't matter if i grew up a UM fan, or if all my family graduated from UM, MSU is and will always be a part of me because i'm having the best time of my life here.

I'm a college football fan and don't really cheer for either school, but I'm really curious...Why does MSU have such an inferiority complex? Can someone please explain this to me?
They claim that they only label Michigan fans that never attended U of M and denigrate their education as "Walverines," but that's just not true. I've seen them call people who are current U of M students Walverines too. Huh?
I forget which thread it was exactly (or even if it was on 247), but there was this other MSU guy there saying that he had met a "Walverine" who only did their undergrad at Michigan. Wow.
And I know not all MSU fans are like this (I've met a few cool ones), but from what I've seen it's pretty bad.

I must be the walverine. I went to work straight out of high school skipping college on my way to success. My first UM game was against Ohio in 1979 and have attended a good 4 dozen games since. If I had to do it all over again I'd have had the ambition in school that I have had in the real world. Life has been good. Degree or no degree personal success has to do with having the right attitude. I did attend UM dearborn but didn't finish. The long work weeks and classes combined got old.

I attended a rather popular school based in Northern Florida, you can guess which one I'm referring to. I'm just curious as to what makes teams with inferiority complexes (i.e. MSU, FSU, Texas A&M, etc) tick.

Walverine describes behavior more than anything else. It is the fan that insults MSU's education, but have no/lesser college degree. They say Michigan will win because "Their Michigan". They think WalMart Wolverine is childish and immature, but "Ohio" is the greatest thing ever. Every fanbase has asssholes, but Michigan has a ton of them and we have a name for them.

This is what I know for a fact downriver. My cousin went to MSU and got his degree in liberal arts with a B/C average in High School. I don't believe it's possible to attend UM AA with a B/C average. Judging by the comments on the Red Cedar board I'd say most downriver people have more in common with MSU fans than UM fans. I just moved back here from West Chester, Ohio and MSU fans are very similar to OSU fans in terms of overall rudeness and flat out hatred. I moved into a beautiful house here two months back and the place was an absolute mess. The lady at Lowe's told me welcome to Downriver, lol. On day two we were behind some big UAW member pick up truck with a pair of silver balls hanging from the trailer hitch. My wife asked what the hell was that and where have you taken me to? I explained, hillbilly heaven. How you know you are back Downriver is when you are out golfing on a golf course along a road and people are screaming things at you out the window of their car as they ride by. No other place I've ever lived is like this, lol.
