I would have no problem with a defender winning the award. Suh should have won in 2010. My problem with Te’o is that he’s not the best college football player in the nation. He’s a great guy, a great leader, and will go down as a great college LB, and will probably have a nice NFL career. But he’s not the best player in the country. Was he better than Luke Kuechly was last year? No. Was he better than Patrick Willis was at Ole Miss? No. Suh actually had a legit argument because was by far the best player in the nation and one of the most dominating defensive player’s in college football history.
If Clowney has a Suh like year at USCe next year he should have a chance to win the award.

I understand the mission statement “The Heisman Memorial Trophy annually recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity."
Character and integrity play role in giving out the award, but a minor one. How can some quantify integrity and character any way’s? It mean’s so many different things to different people. Te’o is a great guy, and a great leader but I don’t believe he’s the best player or the most “outstanding player” in the nation.
At the end of the day though the award is subjective. If I was a voter it would go to the guy would I though was the best player in the nation. Integrity wouldn’t play a role because how can you quantify that? Cam Newton got kicked out of UF, for cheating and stealing laptops but at Auburn the guy was mentoring the local youth, and helping out in the community. Should I just overlook one aspect of his character for the other? Or should I just not use it for consideration.

I can't believe I forgot him. He'd be #3 for me though because he didn't show up in the some games for Oregon.

If you had a Heisman vote, who would it go to?
