If we lose this game....

Being thrust into the game at night on the road has nothing to do with it. He was not even serviceable, accurate, or poised to any degree. There are plenty of backups in the country that come in and do a great job in hostile situations. Just to give you a few: Vaz (Oregon St), Thompson (South Carolina), Kenny Guiton (OSU), Indiana's backup, Kentucky's backup, and that's just off the top of my head. No excuses, one man goes down....next man up. Glad Bellomy is a Michigan Man, but he is not our QB for the future and if he is, then we're in major trouble.

Not making excuses. The dude played like shit there's no doubt about it. But because he played like shit for 33 minutes or so, it doesn't compel me to chalk up the rest of his career and assume that's how he's going to play in every game for the next 3 years.

But obviously we are entitled to different opinions on that matter.

Guess I couldn't disagree more. I think it is on the coaches and part of why he sucked so bad tonight was the (unexpected) pressure. If he just flat out sucks this bad, coaches should've recruited a better backup to DR/potentially eventual starter. If he doesn't really suck this bad, the coaches have done a poor job developing a kid that has only known the Hoke/borgess system. If they recruited a good enough qb, developed him good enough (supposedly added 15lbs of muscle in offseason which is impressive for a kid his size), then he just flat out choked tonight. Should've seen gametime vs bama, umass, and Purdue IMO. Doesn't mean it would've changed anything tonight but I would've felt a hell of a lot better w him coming out on the field. But what do I know, I'm just an idiot, (and dumb, and a dumbass)

Really dude? This is on the coaches? The coaches can't throw the ball for him or read the coverages when he has plenty of time. We went from a 7-5 team to a Sugar Bowl champion with these coaches. These coaches have us in the hunt for Big 10 championship and we're playing the best ball we've played in 5 years. None of what Bellomy did tonight was on the coaches. You can either play at this level or you can't, and Bellomy is prolly better suited for the MAC. And putting on 15 lbs of muscle has nothing to do with being a good QB. He missed numerous of wide open receivers, threw into coverage many times, and he doesn't have the arm strength. The game is just too fast for him.

Agreed, the coaches prepared all the players as best they could. Bellomy isn't ready physically or mentally. Coaches can only do so much. Hopefully Denard is ready and/Bellomy is ready next week.

    Yes, and the insults continued.

Once again, I will not tolerate that. Call it being an "hero" or whatever you want, it's in the guidelines we set and I will enforce it.

This conversation is being dropped, either people can stay on topic and keep it clean or I will lock this thread.

...its not because of the injury, its on the coaches for not having our backup(s) better prepared. Sure the wr's aren't helping a lot, but this is bad. Our D will begin to wear down quickly w all these 3 & outs

I will not argue with you or insult you. All I'm going to say is, you are wrong.

Yeah, really. If ultimately he just sucks this bad, they should've recruited a better qb, or they misjudged his potential. Best ball in 5 years? Ill disagree there too. Our offense has been awful against any team w talent on defense this year. Garbage time points against bama, 1 td vs nd, none last week or this week. Ill say last year was best in the last 5

Hoke didn't have time to recruit a better QB than Bellomy by the time he got the job at Michigan. And when it comes to recruiting, mistakes do happen. If you think Bellomy is the first player who might not pan out for Michigan then I have some bad news for you. Additionally, Bellomy is only a redshirt freshman. He has 3 more years to improve, including 10 or so months until next season starts.

As far as the points go it's not very complicated imo. Michigan doesn't have elite talent on offense yet and when they face good defenses that can deal with Denard's running ability (teams like MSU, ND, 'Bama) they get shut down. If Michigan had a Braylon Edwards or Mike Hart (or both) type of player to help out Denard then Michigan would be more productive. However, that hasn't happened yet and might not until 2014 or so when Hoke's recruits become the majority of the starters on the field. Until that time (where I assume Michigan will have better size, speed, and overall talent on the field) Denard is the best option for Michigan. Next year is gonna be tough on offense unless someone steps up that we haven't heard much about or a freshman is amazing. Just think of it this way, Michigan is competing in a majority of the games they are playing and they have hardly any talent compared to what the teams of the future will have.

I think Bellomy "may not pan out for Michigan." Had our WRs not been so disappointing this year Bellomy most likely would have almost never saw the field. I agree that Denard is the only elite skill position talent.

I think the problem Bellomy is going to run into is that he needs to improve his game drastically from what we saw tonight. I think he can still become good enough to be a serviceable starter, but it might not be until he's a redshirt junior. And at that point I think Morris will be the starting QB.

He certainly is a good athlete but I am confused why the coaches offered a mobile QB with poor arm strength if they want to transition into a pro-style offense. Is Borges trying to relive his Cade McNown masterpiece? I understand there weren't a lot of options available at the time but they could have at least found a project QB who fit their mold a bit better.

  • umm why are you people talking about developing bellomy into a quality QB? let's not kid ourselves please. The kid is not at fault whatsoever, he just sucks as a QB period! He had no business being out there tonight. Real question is why the fack is hoke so damn stubborn to not play gardner as qb. gardner is 10x the athlete bellomy will ever be. even if gardner hasn't practiced much at qb he still gives us 5x the better chance of being productive on offense. I could understand if gardner is the go-to-guy on offense and he gets 8-12 throws thrown his way per game but that's not even the case. He barely even catches the ball 3-4 times per game due to not much action towards his way. The better move tonight would have been play darboh at reciever and move gardner to qb, now that gives you 2 pure athletes at key positions. doesnt it seem more fit to take a chance on darboh then bellomy in tonights scenario? What's even more mind boggling is how does hoke even justify keeping bellomy in so long? You would figure after the third quarter being down one TD he should taken bellomy out to give us a chance. Keeping bellomy in the game is like swimming with a 40lb weight tied to your ankle. Good luck making it to shore!
