I missed on Ty Isaac

  • Ive followed recruiting closely for 12 years and all together for about 15. I can not remember a time when we didnt have a stable full of mid to high 4 stars in the back field. some 3 stars panned out to be amazing like hart. lots of 4 stars didnt ala cox, mcguffie and max. Im very confident in who we have at this moment in time and who we have coming in. I would rather add another player then rb...green btw actually runs a 4.3 and michigan does not have any realistic shot at him(at this moment) although some people believe grren is the best back in the country. a former player told me his film is th emost complete of anyones he has seen in a long time

I always liked Green. Did you know he lost 50 lbs and improved his 40 from 5.0 to 4.4. He's faster and shiftier than isaac. Breaks tackles too.

He's got a chip on his shoulder to improve. Perfect fit for Michigan. He or De'veon will be better that Isaac in 2014 behind our OLine.

I would love Green; as you said, shifter than Isaac with speed, albeit a bit smaller. However, we really seem to be on the outside looking in for him. Not to mention he grew up rooting for Ohio.

    MercuryHayes

  • I don't see how we have any chance at Green. He seems all OSU or Clemson. If we did somehow land him though, he would be the big play threat our offense needs.

Wilkins would be a nice addition for depth and competition.

Can we ban posts like this? I hate unwarranted speculation that makes us look like bucknuts.

Classy post. Every board has it's douchebags so we won't hold it against all of you. It still amazes me how few people actually understand what USC did, and did not, do regarding the sanctions. Isaac is a great get for us. We're lucky to have him and I know it sucks to miss out on an elite local kid (it happens to every program). However, after looking over your current recruiting class I am going to be hard pressed to cry for you given how much talent is on the board. You guys have some great incoming football players.

Good luck next year and best wishes for an injury free season.

Cry Havoc; and let slip the dogs of war!

To me, any offense is a threat to score on ANY given play. Some clubs are more of a threat than others. I am growing tired of the "we dont have enough elite talent to win NCs" comments. Those arguments fly directly in the face our coaching staff. Thats what coaches do. We will have peices in place to compete for a NC very soon. Let's allow our staff to form a TEAM of smart, solid players to form one elite unit... Teams 133, 134.....

Well, those arguments are also true. In college football, gamebreaking athletes can make all the difference, and it's really hard to raise the glass football without them. Can you think of a recent national champion that didn't feature at least one gamebreaking skill guy on offense?

I know the coaches are not content with merely solid talent and are looking to bring in guys with real elite potential, as evidenced by how hard they went after Isaac and are still going after guys like Green, Treadwell, Bailey, Daniels, LaRue, etc. I'm not concerned about the coaches' mindset in terms of who they're targeting, I think they're totally on the right page in going after elite guys who could be the basis of a national title team. However, it should be concerning when we fail to land those guys. Especially when the athlete in question is Ty Isaac, who's been one of our top targets since forever, who's from the Midwest, who took a ton of visits to us, etc. It's totally legit to be concerned about that.

  • I wish that Kamani Thomas wouldn't have developed turf toe last year-- he'd have an offer by now.

Hoke is into his second year at the helm. All these HS kids, before last year, all they know is we lost to OSU every year and MSU is 4-0 against us. They did not know Michigan, the same way when their parents knew Michigan. Why do you think Oregon is so popular now?

I may add that Hoke's goal is NOT to win the NC, but the B1G and all that comes with it. He will build this team to win teh B1G with hardnosed players that love Michigan. He'll take his chances with that team in the National picture after they've secured the B1G

I'm disappointed that Isaac picked USC over Michigan especially since he's from the Midwest.

Anyways, I hope that the coaches extend an offer to Kamani Thomas.

Also, Derrick Green has grown on me in recent months but I still want to see how he performs as a senior.

Well, that's problematic if he actively doesn't care about being relevant nationally. Winning the B1G is pointless if we just go on to get stomped in the Rose Bowl or NCG, we should want to be competitive. "This is Michigan fergodsakes," we're the winningest program of all time, our goals should be higher than beating 11 other Midwestern teams.

That said, I'm pretty sure Hoke's goals are actually higher than merely winning the B1G, and the players he's targeting are definitely of the caliber to compete on a national level. I just don't think we should pretend that it's not a blow when we miss out on those targets.

Yeah but how many have we missed on compared to how many we have landed.

    Pipkins
    Wormley
    Kalis
    Magnuson
    Ross
    Richardson
    Bolden

    Morris
    Fox
    Bosch
    Thomas

All grade out at 95 or above on 247 which is Isaacs grade. Then you can add in a handful or more that grade out just below 95 that we have landed in the last 2 classes. Hoke is hitting on a lot of his targets.

Eh, Smith looks slow to me. He can't outrun his highschool competition. This has of course probably helped him develop the very mature running style of which he uses the great vision and quick feet you mentioned to get up field unlike most highschool runners. But honestly, I don't see how he's going to ever break a big one without a convoy of blockers ahead of him. If we want team to be truely elite, then we need the offense to be a threat to score on every play, and the players to make that happen.

I kind of think that a couple of us are ready to prematurely jump off a cliff because of the loss of Ty, but I agree with this post by Mercury. We already know the defense will get better and better, but it would make the team that much more dangerous if the opposing defenses were to fear our offense on every snap .. because of the threat that any given snap could be a home run.

We'll be fine. Good luck to Ty. The homer in me thinks he made a bad choice .. but at the end of the day .. it was HIS choice. Here's to us seeing him in the Rose Bowl.

I agree, like everyone I've been really pleased with the commits Hoke's been getting the past two classes. I'm not trying to say he isn't getting anyone, I'm just saying its dumb to pretend its not a blow when Ty Isaac goes to USC over us, and its dumb to pretend like having elite playmakers at skill positions doesn't matter.

In recruiting that is just way to negative for me. lol Every school is going to miss on a good number of targets every single year. As long as you are hitting on a good percentage of those top targets then you are doing well. I prefer looking at the ones we land instead of harping on the ones we miss out on.

You may be right. Green seemed more interested a while back but with Isaac getting all the fan attention, Green may have cooled. I would bet the coaches never cooled on Green.

  • idk why everyone is so high on ty he isn't as good as people think. He plays against weak talent that make him look good. He is way to tall to be a back in college Trust me Sc will make him into a WR beside he wont be able to beat out the RBs they will be bringing in. He has bust written all over him. The kid will end up at some Mac school back in the midwest book it.
