I know you hate Ohio....but have you ever considered

Honestly, if it weren't for Ohio, Mich football might look more like Purdue or Iowa.....

    Just sayin'

Nope i never considered this. You want to know why? Because it's the great things about Michigan that got those players to come to Michigan. So you can credit Ohio for that but i credit Michigan for landing all the great players that have played for the great University that is Michigan.

  • It's kind of a silly point. OSU fans talk a LOT more trash about the state of Michigan than Michigan fans do about the state of Ohio. And if I remember correctly, the QB of their last national championship team hailed from Macomb County, Michigan.

I will say it's silly both ways, there's a considerable % of people in both states who have family or other connections in the other. At the end of the day, for many, it's a pure coincidence whether they are Buckeyes or Wolverines and for out-of-state students at both institutions it's even more random, if they had picked/gotten into Stanford or Princeton they would't give a damn either way!

OP is butthurt we have outrecruited them in their own state.

Michigan owns Ohio.. On the field, and on the recruiting trail.

Exactly. I've never understood how it's supposed to be some sort of knock on us that we are so good at going into Ohio every year and stealing many of their best HS players. If I were the OP, I'd be a bit embarrassed I can't lock down my own state when it comes to my #1 rival.

Where would the SEC be with-out Florida? Like Ducks said, where would Oklahoma be with-out Texas? Oregon with-out California?

What in the hell does it matter where you attend high school? IMO sir that is a truly ignorant statement.

    This is Michigan, fergodsakes.

    Never Lose Hoke

  • All those players and coaches were wise enough to escape Ohio, come to Michigan, and carve out a better future for themselves. Not everyone from that godforsaken state is a blind sheep, thankfully. There were enough intelligent kids who wanted a better education and a more well-rounded life.

    Suck it Ohio.

MSU isn't a very good football program.. takes year of consistent winning to get to that level. - copemoney 1/22/13

You are exactly correct....that's why I said in an earlier post that I was very happy Ohio has good HS football...If we didn't have a good football state in our proximity, we'd both be hurting trying to go national for 70-80% of our talent. It would be tough to get that many southern/western kids to come to the "Tundra"....

I NEVER knocked you about it, I simply said it didn't make sense to continually badmouth a STATE when that state has given you some very good players.

Not sure why the OP got so much hostility thrown his way. As you guys know by now, I've banned a number of OSU/MSU/ND posters that I thought were trolling. The OP has been civil and respectful all week. He's just pointing out that it may make sense to bash Ohio State, but that bashing the entire state of Ohio is a little different considering a lot of great Michigan players are from there. Don't think he meant any ill-will by it, and he didn't deserve to be slammed like some posters here did.

    Todd,

Appreciate it, but I get it....I'm sure there are more Bucknuts over here causing trouble than not....I'm not offended by it, but you are correct, it was an honest question about hating the state that supplies some very good players for your team...

    Not a big deal...

That's just it. The State didn't give Michigan anything. Those players chose Michigan for its great tradition, academics, campus, etc...

Dude, let it go....obviously you are just not seeing the point of the question....

Very easy, if all the boys from Ohio that CHOSE michigan happened to live in Texas, do you think you would have got them ALL to come to Michigan??? NO....so my point is it is A) good to have a good HS football state so close and B) since those players came from another state (Ohio) it sounds silly to constantly talk crap about that state....

I get the trash talk about The Ohio State University, just don't get the trash toward the state....

lol You don't get it. I don't give a crap about Ohio and it's HS football . I care that Michigan is where they choose to play so yeah i will continue to talk crap about Ohio the state.

The guy's been trolliing our board for a couple of weeks and he started this thread during rivalry week purposely to try to get under our skin. You don't get that. Wait ... that's right. You're the guy constantly defending the crap Kurelic and Helwagen put out. I realize you're an Iowa guy, not a Michigan guy, so it's understandable you don't get a lot of what this rivalry is about. But it would at least be nice if you just stayed out of it then. Calling Michigan posters out on our own board for doing nothing more than being unhappy about being trolled during rivalry week is over the top.

No. You don't get it. Your state is a dump. We come in and take a handful of highly talented prospects each year and help mold them into men ... and they are much better off for it. The rest of your state is of no value to us.

He hasn't been trolling at all. He's talked some friendly smack here and there, but he's been pretty respectful for the most part. I've already banned most of the Ohio State trolls from here, and will continue to do so.

I don't see anything wrong with sticking up for people when they're being personally attacked. I don't agree with everything other people in our network post, but none of them deserve to have insults hurled at them no matter what they say. I'll continue to defend people from being attacked, whether they're from our OSU site or another site. If you'd like to bash me for that, that says a lot about you.

Lastly, while I cover Iowa, I'm not at all an Iowa guy, a Michigan guy, an Ohio State guy or anything. I grew up in Ohio, and I promise you I have as good of an understanding of this rivalry as anyone here does. Being in this industry, I have no rooting interests whatsoever, but I do appreciate a rivalry of this magnitude.

I haven't said a word about Michigan posters bashing Ohio State and having fun talking trash to a rival. I even started a thread purely centered around Michigan jokes about Ohio State. But as we always say, there's no need to make any of it personal. If people can't refrain from insulting others, they don't belong on a message board. If someone wants the freedom to insult people left and right, then this isn't the place for them.
