Between a commit today, the legal troubles for two of our players yesterday, and new uniforms folks probably have their minds elsewhere. Lots of folks on here also frequent most of the Michigan blogs and may have read it already.

Either way good post. The article itself is well written and interesting. Michigan will have a huge uphill battle come Sept. 1st.

  • +1 to OP.

    Few things:

In 08, bama wasnt a great team. We had very little depth and were young across the field. However, our OL was insanely good at run blocking. We played top five teams and still held the ball 75% of the time. That ol masked our inadequacies everywhere else. Against utah, we lost andre smith before the game, lost our second best ol on the second possession and then lost our center....that was all we had.

09 was an abomination. We ended up with four first rounders yet we lost 3 games. Granted two of them were by three points or less, but it was sad watching us dismantle michigan state. We took out a lot of frustration on them.

Unless you're lsu, you beat bama by passing the ball and having a qb that can absorb abuse.
On defense, you have to stack the los.

  • Nobody knows how to beat Bama. The primary reason to this is because a team's genetic makeup changes from year to year. New captains, kids going to the NFL, graduation, etc. Some of it is being a better team, some of it is your coordinator's ability to adapt on the run, part of it is the players executing, and a lot of it is luck. College football is just like high school....its about match ups. So here are my 10 ways to beat Bama

    1. Keep them guessing and don't let settle into a rhythm. (Ex: throw on first down, take shots downfield on short yardage situations, draw plays on throwing downs, etc)
    2. Don't let them make you into a one dimensional team.
    3. No matter what Bama's strengths are, play to your own strengths. Stick to what you're good at.
    4. Stack the box and make Bama beat you over the top.
    5. Blitz, blitz, blitz
    6. Touchdowns, not field goals in the redzone
    7. Let Denard be Denard. (This means lots of designed runs because ultimately no team can bottle him up all game)....we can limit his carries and rest him a bit the next 2 games before ND anyway
    8. Obviously win the turnover battle
    9. Make Bama a passing team by not allowing them to run between the tackles
    10. (MOST IMPORTANT) Don't be intimidated by them.... they can be beaten

  • Moon..............good read Moon........let me add my thoughts from Bama 's side.........OL is going to be unstoppable........Bama will run up the middle, over tackles and outside.......kind of at will...........that OL is just that bad.........Michigan fans just enjoy watching them........you will never see a better one.................our D is young but with a good bit of experience......it is going to be hard to get by our front seven by running.....(unfortunately now after loosing your starting RB)...........passes have been one of our tender spots on occasion........mostly new SSs & DBs.........but remember ........Saban trained.........Bama has four RBs that will be thrown at Michigan.........three have 4.0 to 4.2 40 speed the other is 252 lbs and does a 4.8 40..........each has a different running style........all are very, very good at what they do.........WRs are mostly new......this game will tell if they can get open..........QB won a NC........nuf said about him.......weakest part of the Bama group is the specialty teams..............kick offs, field goals......we be good on returns, catch me if you can....got a new guy who is supposed to cure the kick off part........DR will get hurt if he scrambles too often.........I have seen this on numerous occasions........he will need to be satisfied with short passes & hand offs.......no time for the long ones and still live to throw again........last year I watched Arkansas' QB take hit after hit and still get up but by the end of the game he was beaten.......toughest QB I saw all year but beat in the end......DR has to pass and hand off...............That's the short of my take of Bama...........really looking forward to the game..........will be the game of the weekend.........all of the football world will be watching.......gotta say it ......Roll Tide Roll.............hope Michigan wins the rest of their games this year.

One thing I left out..........Bama uses TEs more than most .

Michigan fans have enjoyed watching several great O-Lines, I don't think Bama's unit this year is superior to the Michigan lines of the late-90's... a few of those guys had 10+ year careers in the NFL and are still going strong.

I didn't know that Bama brought in Jamaica's Olympic track team to platoon at RB.

Between Jones, Fluker, Warmack and Kouandjio, Alabama has four guys that are likely to be high draft picks on this O-Line. Its really pretty good.

Absolutely, i'd say it's the best in the country without any hesitation... but he said Michigan fans have never seen anything like it, and I have no problem disagreeing with that.

    3. QB won a NC........nuf said about him

Sorry, I had to address these 3 points, as they stood out to me in that sea of ridiculousness.

    1. Mmmm...yeah, I doubt Bama's 2012 OL is the best OL ever. Nice try though.

    2. The fastest recorded 40 time in history is 4.24. Somehow I doubt Bama has not one, not two, but three RBs who are all faster than the fastest recorded time ever.

    3. Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl. What's your point?

Several people refute your statement and this is your response. You're a huge 'Bama homer that will not concede on anything about this matchup, and it's getting awfully old here. Take this garbage back to BOL.
