How many teams in the AP top 25 would Michigan beat?

  • I honestly don't know. I could see as many as 12, but as few as 6

  • I'd say we have a great shot to beat all of them except: Bama, LSU, USC, and Oregon

I don't see that at all. I think we would get destroyed by the teams you mentioned, plus FSU, WVU, Oklahoma, and maybe Georgia.

  • If the question is who WOULD they beat, then I'd have a hard time putting hardly anyone from the top 25 in the discussion. We are good, but simply are not good enough to proclaim that we WOULD go out and just beat a top 25 team on a whim.

If the question is who COULD they beat, then probably everyone outside of Moon's list above. Outside of those programs, I see a bunch of solid teams that look a whole lot like us that are good, but have definite holes.

This.... I just listed the teams we have no chance in beating

Like I mentioned in my OP, I think there are 6 teams that I think we would beat 10/10 times. They are BYU, Arizona, Tennessee, UCLA, Louisville, Florida. I see no way we lose to those 6 teams.

  • Well I would take Arkansas over UL Monroe every time but that didn't happen. I'm just basing my opinion off of what I've seen from the teams thus far and the structure of each team. I can't say we'd beat somebody 10/10 times at all. Only Alabama and LSU could probably say that

    This.

As long as two teams are even in the same ball park with regards to talent, any team can win on any given day.

Football, kinda like baseball is a very high variance sport, in that the better team doesn't always win. That's because in both sports there are a very small amount of plays that have an enormous effect on the score of the whole contest. The New York Yankees are far superior in talent to the Kansas City Royals, but they'd probably only win 7 out of 10 games because of this variance.

Compare that to a sport like tennis, where the better player wins about 95% of the time or more. This is because the winner has to rack up about a hundred points, and they are all basically worth the same towards the final outcome of the match. This is how Federer is able to go almost a decade straight without dropping a set before the quarters in a major championship.

To say that we would beat Florida 10/10 is just not realistic in Football.

I wouldn't even put USC on that list. So far, they've beaten Hawaii and Syracuse (and struggled with the latter because their defense is suspect). I'm not saying USC is a bad team, but they aren't on the same level as Alabama and LSU.

The reality is half of the teams in the top 25 haven't played another ranked team yet. We opened against the best team in the country (IMO) and followed that up by playing a team that will likely win seven or more games this year and go to a bowl game for the sixth straight season. Air Force is not Miami (OH) and it is not CMU. And they are infinitely better than Murray State and Savannah State, the two opponents FSU has faced so far. Michigan will be fine and probably will finish up in the 10-20 range again when all is said and done. Not bad for year two under a new coaching staff that is transitioning us from the RR debacle back to Michigan football. And, FWIW, we also remain one of the favorites along with Wisky, MSU and Nebraska (each of which has its own issues) to win the B10 and go to the Rose Bowl.

  • I think we *could* beat a lot of them but if we *would* beat them is a entirely different question. I don't consider most of them *unbeatable* but I also wouldn't consider ourselves favorites against quite a few of them.

Floridas d is as good as bamas.

So no. Quite obvious you contain Robinson and he is not good. Florida would only need 14 points to win. Just contain...its the saban plan and it sucks...did it to us in 09 with tebow.

Oh...and screw Ohio state. But you wouldn't beat Florida 10-10. Guarantee it.

which D? the one that gave up 14 to bowling green? bowling can put 14 on you, but michigan cant? florida loses to lsu, fsu, georgia, s.carolina and toss up between tennessee and missouri. your looking at a 7 win florida team.

THe FSU that lost to Virginia and Wake Forest last year and had an even worse victory against ND than Michigan last year? Also the WVU that got beat by 26 by Syracuse last year, and won their last three Big East games by a total of seven points?

Michigan would get destroyed by those teams?

Yeah, RS Freshman Johnny Manziel had 175 passing yards on 75% completion rate with no interceptions and added 60 yards rushing on the ground.

If Johnny Manziel manages 233 all-purpose yards against your defense and leads the opponent to 17 points, you might have trouble holding Michigan to 14 points.

I think we are not good enough yet to definitively beat any of these teams. But can we beat them? I would say we could potentially beat 18 of the top 25, if we played well. I bet our record against them would be about 0.500 though.

You cannot be serious.. I didn't even bother reading anything after this because it is probably just as bs as that statement.

@bkp - FSU would dominate us in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Not to the extent that Bama did, but enough to beat us handily.
As for WVU, we would stand a much better chance against them but I think their offense is too explosive for us.

I don't know it all - that's for sure but any team can go down on any givin Saturday; & furthermore, with your new staff and recruits, Michigan will Be challenging those four previous teams you mentioned in a few years.
