How does Michigan finish?

  • Just curious as to how you guys think the basketball team finishes out the regular season/B1G tournament.

What seed will they end up with in the tourney and how far do you think this team is still capable of going?

  • 1-2 easily could be 0-3 after the performance the other day. Win one game in the B1G tourney. #3 seed in the dance and win at least 2 games. The MSU loss has really taken a mental toll on this team I think

Perhaps, but I think fans need to just step back and ask themselves: does think team past the eye test? I mean, does this team physically look like the other top NCAA teams like Kansas, Indiana, or Florida ?

This team has one glaring weakness, we have no long, tall, athletic bigs to get easy baskets. We can't throw anything in the post to get easy shots, can't defend the rim, or get second chance shots. Teams like MSU, Syracuse, Florida, etc have this.

We will make the big ten semi, even with our glaring weakness, talent should still make us an elite 8 team

  • My prediction is we finish 2-1 down the stretch and end up 25-6 (12-6) in the regular season. That probably makes us a #3 or #4 seed in the BTT depending on how MSU and OSU finish up. And I think we win our first two games in the BTT, but lose in the finals (probably to IU).

It's impossible to seriously predict how far we will go in the NCAA without seeing the bracket (matchups are critical), but I've said all along I believe we are good enough to at least reach the Sweet 16 so I will stick with that. Beyond that, you really need to look at the actual bracket and see how the team is playing going into the NCAA to make a realistic prediction. I will be particularly interested in seeing how many minutes Jordan Morgan plays and how well he plays over the next two and a half weeks leading up to the NCAA.

    MSU - L
    Purdue - W
    Indiana - L

Out in 2nd round of B10 tournament.

    #3 Seed in the tournament.

'Possible' Sweet 16 depending on 'who' they match with first 2 games. No farther than Sweet 16.

This team has lost its Mojo.

^This is how I feel as well. I don't think it's the mojo though more a lack of desire to guard people. Seems as the year has gone on most of our team only wants to play offense.

Defense wins championships, and we have not improved over the year to the point of contending, jmo.

  • Finish the regular season 0-3. I suppose we could beat Purdue but something tells me AJ Hammons is going to go crazy on us down low. Indiana and MSU no chance i'm afraid. We never seemed to recover from that fiasco at Wisconsin.

See us as a 2nd round exit in the B10 tournament and the big tournament depends on the matchup. The farthest we get in the tourny is the sweet sixteen but I could see us losing opening weekend. I think it is time to start to accept that we mave have reached our ceiling with Belein. It's clear he refuses to show the intensity of Crean and Izzo and also refuses to taylor his offense to go through a big low post guy. Team is just too soft. Need Novak to come back for the next two home games and go psycho on the team pre game. goblue

  • 3-0 to finish the season. The team will get up to play MSU at home so I think we win in a squeaker. I think we will win a tough one on the road against Purdue. I think we match up well against them. We win a close one against IU because IU doesn't play well on the road either. We win two in the BTT and lose in the finals. Make atleast a sweet 16 but I can't go further because I'm not sure of matchups yet. We are a 3 seed in the tourney. At the end of the IU game when we are closing out the clock, G Rob gets the ball and goes up for a 360 but as he goes to put it down he holds on to it and travels. He then looks at Oladipo and shakes his finger like Dikembe Mutombo.

Purdue is obviously the weakest opponent of our last 3 but I just don't see how we can win on the road right now. There is a mental block when they play on the road. Yes, IU and MSU are more difficult of opponents but I see those 2 games as our only chance of pulling one out. I would love to be egregiously wrong.

Come on man, don't give up on Beilein. The team is young. Soft was Manny Harris playing 4 years and drawing like 6 total fouls, while wearing a tee shirt under his jersey to hide his noodle arms. Beilein has done more with less for years, and players still need to execute. If anything, I'm not convinced in Burke's leadership on the court. He did a far better job earlier in the season getting others involved. I think McGary will develop into a dominant low post player, and become a team leader. I love his energy. You have to remember how young these guys are.

I say 1-2, and a 3 seed in the tourney, and not going too far. I'd love to be wrong here and go 2-1, with a W over MSU, a 2 seed, and an Elite 8 appearance.

  • I still can't believe people are gunning Beilein this hard. We've been a consensus top-10 team, primarily top-5, the entire season with one of the youngest teams in the country. We've hit a serious rough patch recently, but there's no reason to think we don't re-find the swag we had to start the year. If two years ago someone told us we'd have a top-10 team for an entire season with 5 true freshmen contributing, 3 of which starting, you would all be praising Beilein. Hate on the team for now, they are the ones on the court. And before I blame Beilein for this team being soft, I blame our leaders. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but as a former athlete I'd say my peers had a much greater impact on my effort than my coaches.

I think we finish strong. 2-1 in the regular season, a decent run in the B1G tourney losing in a great game, taking that confidence and making a good run in the tourney. I still believe we're an elite-8 team if not more, depending on some luck that every team going to the final 4 needs.

It's basketball season; we can't be so short sighted.

    This. So much this.

I think this board is using a football mindset when they talk about this basketball team. A loss in basketball is way less important than a loss in football. Yet, the same level of meltdown occurs when we lose a game of basketball.

Losing random games in basketball happens. Louisville lost to Villanova. Kansas lost to Oklahoma. Florida lost to Tennessee. Indiana lost to Illinois. Duke lost to Virginia.

Does anybody think those teams are making early round exits?

I agree. The only losses that really disappointed me were the MSU game because of the blowout and Penn State. Penn State well because how bad they are and it killed any hope we had at a Big Ten title and #1 seed.

As for how we finish out the year i just don't know. At this point I really can't pinpoint how good this team actually is. I wouldn't at all be suprised to see us win 2 or 3 of the final games but wouldn't be suprised to see us lose either. I do believe we will make the Sweet 16 at least in the tourney.

  • Sparty- L

    Purdue- W

    Ind- L

Win one, and lose 2nd rd of the big 10 tourny

Lose in the 2nd rd or sweet 16 of the dance

This team doesn't have "it" mentally. They don't hustle, or care to play defense. Can't win like that.

If UM goes 3-0 the rest of the way and loses in the B1G tourney final.. they will be a 2 seed, borderline 1 seed..
