I love the fact that the lack of the headset irritates the Nuts. It's like the Ohio thing. UM fans barely think about it and consider it relatively minor, but for some inexplicable reason it drives the Nuts batshit crazy. Maybe that's why Hoke does it. He's from Ohio and knows the culture and maybe he does it just to troll the OSU fanbase.
As for the headset, I don't get the issue. It's also very minor. If a HC hires good coordinators and trusts them, he should let them do their jobs. The coordinators spend 100% of their time each week preparing for the game, looking at film, working with players ... on one side of the ball. And they prepare all week to call plays designed to attack the other team's weaknesses. Why in the world should a HC assume that suddenly in the middle of the game he is more qualified to call a random play? If the HC wants to call the plays himself a la Chip Kelly, that's fine too, but the idea that a HC should regularly step in and call plays when the OC does it for a living and has spent all week (year?) preparing to do it is bizarre. It's either the height of arrogance by the HC or it means the HC does not think his OC is very good.
As CMXI said, Hoke has a GA shadowing him with a headset at all times. If either Hoke or Borges want to talk to each other, he puts the headset on. He also often puts it on toward the end of each half when clock management issues arise. And during timeouts. And Mattison is standing next to Hoke on the sideline so if there ever is a defensive question they can speak face to face.
Coach Hoke did the smartest thing a HC can do when taking a new job ... he hired great coordinators. He got the A team. Coach Meyer tried to do that but failed. He went after Clemson's OC and whiffed. He then went after LSU's OL coach and whiffed. So he ended up with some younger, less experienced guy from Iowa State. Similarly on the defensive side, he was saddled with Luke Fickell because of the odd situation. Dumping him would have been a PR nightmare. And Withers was hired for recruiting. Fickell and Withers certainly aren't A team DCs.
Unlike Hoke, Urbie hired B team or maybe even C team coordinators. Urbie's an offensive guru and probably is heavily involved with that side of the ball all week anyway. If he wants to look over his OC's shoulder and second guess every play call, fine. It probably fits the situation better in Columbus. But Hoke doesn't feel the need to to that. He grew up on the defensive side of the ball and went out and hired a very experienced and very successful OC. If Hoke ever feels he needs to start looking over Borges' shoulder and second guessing every play call, the solution will not be to wear a headset full time. The solution will be to fire Borges and hire a new OC.

You do remember that "Ohio's" not so A-list DC's kept your team off their side of the 50 yard line for a whole half, right? I guess you'd better hope Urbie never gets his A-listers.
Personally, I think the whole headset issue is pretty funny. Half the conference thinks your DC runs the team, and Hoke seeming so disengaged doesn't do anything to remove that perception.

Seriously? You had to go back 40 years to get TSUN? Even Woody never called Michigan by an incorrect name. I guess that is part of Fred Flintstone's charm up there eh? Sounds like insecurity to everyone else. And he has good reason to be insecure.

Bro, your band scripts Ohio. Your stadium is officially called Ohio Stadium. Your golden pants award say Ohio. You have the stupid chant "O.H.I.O." You call yourselves Ohio way more then we do. You need a reality check. Michigan fans never call our selves "the team up north" but you Ohio fans always refer to yourself as Ohio. Basically, I just dominated this argument and you completely failed. For your argument to be rational, you need to stop the O.H.I.O chant, you need to rename your stadium, and you need to script the word state with Ohio...wow, theres no way to get around you, your unequivocally Ohio.

Calling Ohio State "Ohio" doesn't drive Buckeye fans "batshit crazy" as you put it. We recognize that it is just the normal classless disrespect that Michigan College usually displays. It will be interesting to see how many losses in the Game before Hoke calls his opponent by their proper name.

Yeah, you dominated with pretzel logic. Let's see - we'd have to have a band comprised of ~450 members to spell Script Ohio State, and it would use up the entire halftime. The O.H.I.O.S.T.A.T.E chant would require a stadium with 9 sides, and the Stadium is named Ohio Stadium because the STATE built it, not the university. Not that I expect you to be able to process that information. A couple more beatdowns and perhaps Fred Flinstone will call his opponent by their proper name. Until then we will just continue to defeat Michigan College.

Everyone has different opinions and believes their coach is the best. Let's look at the facts:
Brady Hoke was 8-5 this year. You lost to some good teams, but that's still 5 losses in one season. I wont bust your chops about NW, because good teams find a way to win those games - you did.
Brady Hoke has never won a NC.
Brady Hoke has never won a conference.
Brady Hoke has never won his division within a conference.Urban Meyer had Bowling Green ranked in the top 25.
Urban Meyer went 12-0 at Utah and was the first BCS buster.
Urban Meyer won 2 NC's in 6 years at Florida.
Urban Meyer took a 6-7 OSU team and went 12-0 in his first year.I do not see how there's even a comparison here.

Meyer is a great coach, but you're a dumbass.
Brady Hoke went 12-0 in the regular season at Ball State, taking them as high as 12th in the rankings. That would include winning the West division. Hoke was named the coach of the year in his conference in 2008, 2010, and 2011. Hoke took a Michigan team that had won 15 games total in the previous three years to 11 wins in his first year.

You resort to name calling because Hoke won the west division of the MAC? Awards are great, but call me when Hoke wins a conference or a national championship. I guess my point was, I'll take the guy with the championship rings. Until Hoke wins some, there really is no comparison.

I called you a dumbass because you started spewing things that a dumbass would spew. You claimed Hoke never won his division yet he did at Ball State. You use Meyer getting a top 25 ranking while at Bowling Green, then discredit Hoke getting Ball State up to #12 in the polls. You use Meyer turning around the buckeyes yet you discredit Hoke doing the same thing in his first year in Ann Arbor.
You want to use NC as your barometer, fine, but most of the other crap you spewed makes you look like a dumbass.

Well Hoke wasn't winning a title at SDSU or Ball State, and there was an opportunity for Meyer at a school like Florida when they had unbelievable talent. Hoke was working up to Michigan and did great things on the way, but now he's here and recruiting as well as anyone. The national titles help to justify Meyer being great but don't take anything away from Hoke. He needs a few more years.

Take a second,go back and read what you originally posted. You mention 4 separate things on Meyer, only one is about winning national championships. Hell, you are the one that brought up accomplishments in the MAC in the first place. That's what I am talking about and you seem to dense to understand.
