I don't see it. He committed to Tom Izzo not Mark Dantonio. And when he reopened things, his first call was to Tom Izzo not Mark Dantonio. I'm sure he feels bad backing out, but it's a classic case of not wanting to tell someone something you know they don't want to hear. So, technically, he says he has not decommitted. But of course that's what he's done. You aren't committed to a school if you are gearing up to visit a bunch of other schools to decide where you want to play football. That is the definition of being uncommitted. Is Sparty still in the mix? Sure. Just like they are for any number of players from the state of Michigan that UM and ND and OSU are also pursuing for 2014. But I wouldn't place any money on MSU being his choice when all is said and done. His primary reason for picking MSU was Tom Izzo and that reason no longer applies.

You don't see it because it's not what you want to see. Just as we don't want to see him de-commit. His first call was to Izzo because he's been his primary point of contact since the 8th grade. Not to mention the fact that if he is making the decision not to play basketball, which by all accounts it appears he is, he's got to replace a 14' recruit on the hardwood. It makes perfect sense to contact Izzo asap and let him know. At this point he's still commited to MSU and that's all we really know. Any opinion to the contrary is pure speculation.

No. You have it backwards. You can't see that he is now uncommitted because it's what you don't want to see. Please go look up the word "committed" in the dictionary. A player who is giving public interviews and talking about a handful of schools he is currently considering and a process for taking visits and making a choice in no way meets the definition of committed. MSU is now one school among many vying for his services and most if not all of those schools have more to offer him on the football side than MSU does. That's reality. Could MSU pull the big upset? Yeah, sure, crazier things happen in recruiting every year. But I wouldn't bet on it.

Maybe I missed this conversation a couple months ago, but....
Didn't Drake already have a Michigan offer when he committed to MSU??
Now his recruitment has "gone national". But- how does that really help Michigans chances with him, if he's already picked sparty over us once already??
Guess im just a bit confused...

I honestly get the feeling that he will end up at OSU or Alabama. OSU has so much momentum after their 12-0 season and Alabama is Alabama. I can't see him staying at MSU and the only way I see him ending up at Michigan is if Gardner has a monster year through the air, with Michigan winning a lot of games. He is going to get the full court press from every major school in the country. If he had all these offers when he committed then I think the story would be very different but it's very hard to hang onto kids once their recruitment blows up like this.

For the sake of accuracy, if Drake was still going to play bball, he would still be coming to MSU. I believe he may have even been quoted as saying he wouldn't want to play bball for anyone other than Izzo. Now that he has decided to focus on football he has to reevaluate his decision making process and reasoning.
He is still a very big MSU fan, so we'll have to see how much that affects the process. Additionally, he met 2013 QB commit Damion Terry for the first time recently. Terry has been getting a lot of publicity lately, making a couple AA teams, and has been one of our two best "peer recruiters" (along with Reschke).
It will be interesting to watch. I have to admit that UM is not in the top 3 programs that I think could "steal" Harris from MSU (Bama, ND, OSU), but with the way Hoke and his staff have been able to recruit, I think you'd have to be a fool to count them out.
It will be intriguing to see if/how much the 2013 season impacts his decision...
