Hoke Stops In On Harris Again

I don't see it. He committed to Tom Izzo not Mark Dantonio. And when he reopened things, his first call was to Tom Izzo not Mark Dantonio. I'm sure he feels bad backing out, but it's a classic case of not wanting to tell someone something you know they don't want to hear. So, technically, he says he has not decommitted. But of course that's what he's done. You aren't committed to a school if you are gearing up to visit a bunch of other schools to decide where you want to play football. That is the definition of being uncommitted. Is Sparty still in the mix? Sure. Just like they are for any number of players from the state of Michigan that UM and ND and OSU are also pursuing for 2014. But I wouldn't place any money on MSU being his choice when all is said and done. His primary reason for picking MSU was Tom Izzo and that reason no longer applies.

You don't see it because it's not what you want to see. Just as we don't want to see him de-commit. His first call was to Izzo because he's been his primary point of contact since the 8th grade. Not to mention the fact that if he is making the decision not to play basketball, which by all accounts it appears he is, he's got to replace a 14' recruit on the hardwood. It makes perfect sense to contact Izzo asap and let him know. At this point he's still commited to MSU and that's all we really know. Any opinion to the contrary is pure speculation.

IMO, he's committed to MSU like Sevon Pittman was committed to MSU. He's just holding a place right now, but he's looking around and fully expecting to find something better elsewhere.

No. You have it backwards. You can't see that he is now uncommitted because it's what you don't want to see. Please go look up the word "committed" in the dictionary. A player who is giving public interviews and talking about a handful of schools he is currently considering and a process for taking visits and making a choice in no way meets the definition of committed. MSU is now one school among many vying for his services and most if not all of those schools have more to offer him on the football side than MSU does. That's reality. Could MSU pull the big upset? Yeah, sure, crazier things happen in recruiting every year. But I wouldn't bet on it.

I think UM's chances are ok, but OSU and ND will be tough to beat. If decides he will leave the state (go far), look out. FL and USC are ready in the wings.

Maybe I missed this conversation a couple months ago, but....

Didn't Drake already have a Michigan offer when he committed to MSU??

Now his recruitment has "gone national". But- how does that really help Michigans chances with him, if he's already picked sparty over us once already??

Guess im just a bit confused...

this......my son is his friend and he is going to msu and really he should they have been in on him since day one.. just very flattered by all the attention....as much as i would like to see him at Tosu it aint happening either

Could MSU pull the big upset? really?? we all have izzo to thank for this kid even playing football...Drake was ready to hang up his cleats and focus solely on basketball after his freshman season and izzo told him if you dont play football i will pull your scollie offer....then the kid goes out and lights up the football field.

great kid going to say the right things but will end up in east lansing

If Harris doesn't stick with MSU, he will probably end up leaving the midwest entirely.

Sevon Pittman? Good god man let it go. For the record, that was an entirely different scenario seing as he was an out of state prospect from Ohio, but nice try.

lol You might want to take your own advice - I'm just offering my analysis, you're the one with the visceral reaction to the name "Sevon Pittman."

not even remotely the same pittman committed during the osu termoil not because he had msu ranked ahead of his childhood team. skip no worries drake will be in east lansing next year with only one exception if msu were to fire either izzo or dantonio and that isnt happening...

  • I don't think Michigan State would be out of it at all yet. It sounds like he's strongly considering staying in the area. If Burbridge continues his progression and MSU can maintain a pattern of contention in the conference, there's no reason to think they wouldn't still be a factor.

Of course, I'm sure our Spartan buddy here will somehow construe this into me being a "homer", but oh well. lol

Because he's from Michigan it makes it completely different? Suuuuurre.

He's looking around and wants to go somewhere he can compete.... He's not ending up in East Lansing , and Probably not in Ann Arbor either.

An Ohio kid getting an OSU offer? Yeah I think it matters. Gareon Conley ring a bell?

Yeah, he picked MSU over UM back when he thought their basketball team was better than ours, and he was less concerned about football. Now that both our basketball and football teams are better than theirs, we're definitely back in the conversation.

For the sake of accuracy, if Drake was still going to play bball, he would still be coming to MSU. I believe he may have even been quoted as saying he wouldn't want to play bball for anyone other than Izzo. Now that he has decided to focus on football he has to reevaluate his decision making process and reasoning.

He is still a very big MSU fan, so we'll have to see how much that affects the process. Additionally, he met 2013 QB commit Damion Terry for the first time recently. Terry has been getting a lot of publicity lately, making a couple AA teams, and has been one of our two best "peer recruiters" (along with Reschke).

It will be interesting to watch. I have to admit that UM is not in the top 3 programs that I think could "steal" Harris from MSU (Bama, ND, OSU), but with the way Hoke and his staff have been able to recruit, I think you'd have to be a fool to count them out.

It will be intriguing to see if/how much the 2013 season impacts his decision...

  • I honestly get the feeling that he will end up at OSU or Alabama. OSU has so much momentum after their 12-0 season and Alabama is Alabama. I can't see him staying at MSU and the only way I see him ending up at Michigan is if Gardner has a monster year through the air, with Michigan winning a lot of games. He is going to get the full court press from every major school in the country. If he had all these offers when he committed then I think the story would be very different but it's very hard to hang onto kids once their recruitment blows up like this.

All he has to do is see who will be throwing him the ball at Ohio, to all but eliminate them imo. No way he ends up a Buckeye. Just my opinion.

Do you mean the top 5 Heisman candidate (who improved by 1000 yards in his 2nd season as QB, and who also had close to 3x the number of TDs to Ints)? Or the #3-7 ranked dual-threat QB in JT Barrett?

I THINK he means Barrett because the other guy will be gone by 2014 or at best be there for his true freshman year. I've never heard anyone on this site (or most others) overly impressed by Barrett, but maybe he'll be the next DRob.

Wait ... I know ... Urbie should just tell him he can be the next Percy Harvin. Yeah, that's the ticket. How could a sales pitch like that fail?
