Hill Gets His Michigan Offer

The Wolverines are making a late run at four-star Iowa commit Delano Hill of Detroit Cass Tech.

  • We are desperately handing out offers now. Not a knack on Hill either. What will be funny is when we pick up 3 commits these next few weeks and miss out on Green and McQuay even though we have a good shot at landing them.

  • Definitely thought Hill was a Michigan caliber player when I saw him twice this past year. He has good size and excellent technique at safety. I believe he also ran a 4.4 or 4.5 at the Opening this summer. Very solid prospect.

Or maybe they have more slots available than people think

  • First, offering Delano Hill is not an act of desperation. He is a solid prospect who I was surprised we didn't offer earlier, but probably because we had a few guys ahead on our list.

I also agree with Michmania, I think we have more spots than we know right now. I think McQuay, Green and less like Treadwell all have guaranteed spots.

You need to learn how to read recruits better, we have no shot at landing McQuay and never did.

LM will go to USC or Vandy.

  • Do we know when he was offered?

If he was offered today, then I think it's telling that it comes after the in-home visit with McQuay.

  • I have wanted to have Hill in the fold for a very long time now. I am very excited that we offered and I hope he comes along with Dawson and Lewis this weekend. As far as desperately handing out offers, I don't think anyone ever really thought we had a good chance at LM3. When you have spots to fill, and don't forget Hopkins just left the program, that can be another opportunity for another recruit.

  • Clint, did u see him play in person? If so what did u think?

  • I think that the position that they appear to be in with McQuay, Green and Dawson if they are handing out offers to other kids they definately know they are going to have more slots than we are anticipating. Given that they appear to be ahead with all of those players and are still kind of in the mix for Treadwell common sense tells me that they would not miss on the chance to acquire some players with those skill sets. As I look at Hill's JR take though, this kid is no scrub in his own right, he has good size, speed, insticts and his physical to the football. Not to mention it just increases that Cass Tech PIPELINE that looks as if it is going to be crucial to Michigans recruiting success in the next few classes as that team appear to be loaded. Plus they always have talent transfer in to try to win a championship, so that may be a part of their mindset with this play also. Either way if McQuay, Green, Dawson or Treadwell commit or decide to choose Michigan, you can look forward to seeing them in Maize and Blue as Brady Hoke & Co are not stupid enough to let that kind of talent slip through their fingers due to a numbers game. They will be just fine though it is a little curious, Makes me wonder who is going to open up those new slots.......GO BLUE, HAIL TO THE VICTORS!!

I saw him at two SMSB camps this past summer and I was really impressed. The only thing I couldn't tell was if he had great speed and I think he answered that question when he ran a 4.4 at the Opening. He was noticeably more physical than the other DB's and I can't stress enough how good his hips and technique were. He also played the ball well in the air. I was impressed.

I was sold when he ran the 4.4x at the opening. Thanks for the input about his technique and hips.

  • So Clint, I assume your assessment of his technique/hips etc. lends some backing to the notion floating around he can play corner at a high level? Or still just a safety prospect?

Maybe the offer is for CB with Conley gone

That'd mean we still have hope in McQuay pray

  • I think safety fits him best BennyG. I would be surprised to see him make the switch to corner because he is built more like a safety and his physicality fits the position better.

I could be wrong but I always thought McQuay was being offered here as a boundary corner? I feel like I remember his dad saying it in an interview at some point. Regardless I don't think he or the coaches would have a problem playing him in either spot with the type of athlete he is.

  • Take Thomas Gordon, add some length and a touch of athleticism and you get Delano Hill. Hill will make more plays on the ball than Gordon has.
