The coaches need to adjust their game plan. If he leaves, this is a second high profile recruit we have lost in the last month. What is troublesome is we abandoned a number of other recruits that were elite, which we could have continued keeping interest.

I saw where LM III looks pretty solid with FSU right now, which is troublesome to me - as I thought we had a chance. I still believe we can sway him, but I am not sure if this is enough to get a commitment.

Michigan could be waiting on 3 elite recruits right up (or past) NSD.

That loyalty angle is...sketchy. He was being urged by family members to look elsewhere before; I don't see how that wouldn't still be the case now.

  • I don't think the coaches need to change the game plan. This is bound to happen and happens to other programs without the rule as well.

From what I have read on other sites is he wants to visit, nothing is set in stone. However the writing is on the wall and I will be surprised if he is a part of this class at NSD.

Best of luck to him and hope he enjoys where he ends up.

McQuay has tried to commit to USC twice in the last four months. We're nowhere close to being in good shape with him and probably never were. I was told months ago (before the BBQ in late July) by a high school coach in the state of Florida that McQuay would never end up at Michigan. I have no reason to doubt him.

  • I think you're looking at a kid who had his first major offer and jumped on it without thinking of what would happen in the future. He was kind of under the radar back then so maybe he didn't think he'd get alot of the attention he ended up getting?

Yep. His Mom wants him out on the west coast (Oregon) closer to her.

  • regarding Tennessee and Gareon Conley: if Dooley is fired, could we see Michigan going after Paul Harris? We were one of his finalists, along with USC, who are full at WR

  • I completely agree with Tremendous here, and this sums up the policy from a few angles:

"The policy is that the recruit is considered uncommitted; the scholarship remains.

The fact that some trolls are unable to wrap it around their heads is a bit frustrating. Dawson/Pharaoh Brown lost their scholarships because they were dishonest to the coaching staff about their situation. If Conley tells the staff he's not 100% and wants to take visits, they will consider him uncommitted, but his scholarship will still be available. Does that mean he'd come back to Michigan? Not necessarily, and most of the time I'd say probably not. However, the scholarship is still there and the coaches say they will continue to recruit the prospect.

This staff is all about keeping your word. If the kid is upfront and honest, they seem to be willing to respect that."

so what about dawson. it seens like he was so anxous to get to Fla, but obviously the grass was not greener. Not sure why the policy would not hold in that case. It sounds like now he wants to be close to home again.

I think you missed part of that: "Dawson/Pharaoh Brown lost their scholarships because they were dishonest to the coaching staff about their situation."

  • Actually as of now Conley hasn't talked to the coaches about taking visits yet. So if he schedules a visit, the same thing that happened with Dawson might occur.

  • Rumors are now that Conley is set on Oregon (Pending offer of course). Apparently he was telling people around Massillon this before and after his game this past week.

What I don't get is how he said that he wasn't 100% sure about UM, because it's the only place he's seen, but now he's all head over heels about a place that he.... hasn't seen.

The fact that we've had 2 of his teammates (Devers and Lash) up for visits, and he hasn't been back really puts the writing on the wall for me. Hopefully his dad and coach win out, and he sticks, but it's looking worse and worse by the week.

I think the other three DBs we have in the class are good. If we miss out on him, bank the scholarship for next year. I don't want the staff to take fillers just to get the numbers up (outside of studs).

  • It is amazing how Oregon's violations have just been swept underneath the rug. Based on precedent, they have to loose schollies and face a post season ban.
