Gareon Conley- Visiting OSU this weekend...

  • Saintlex said...

Nope. If you're committed to Michigan, there's no need to take visits. If you take visits, we look elsewhere.

I think he means that the coaches wouldn't necessarily pull your offer. if you take visits that means you're not committed, but I think you might still be recruited and have an opportunity to come back.

Edit: Not suggesting that's what would happen here. Just that that's my understanding of the policy in general.

  • If Conley visits ohio on the day of the game when he's still technically committed to us..... $^#&%%$ him.

  • I think the recruiting policy is fine, but some posters seem to think that Gareon Conley is about to commit a crime or something. These players are still kids, and frankly, at a similar age I would also be prone to committing too quickly. Some of these kids (like Conley) didn't initially have any other high level offers so I don't blame them for wanting to look around occasionally. It's just the way things go when dealing with high school kids. That being said, I agree with Coach Hoke's policy in that Conley's spot is now fair game for another recruit.

  • I posted a couple weeks ago this info on Conley and a few of your posters said his schollie would not be pulled because he wasn't being shady about it with Hoke like Dawson did....

    Yep..

Didn't catch your username the first time around, lol. It's all about that royal purple and old gold (E Sig) but since some from Omicron is in the family, I've maintained plenty of respect for you too cold bruhs also.

Will have to see what happens this weekend...

Hoke's policy has no such nuance. You visit elsewhere, you are not a Michigan commit. Simple as that.

If he signs with OSU as a receiver I think it would be a mistake on his part. I think he has the potential to make it to the NFL as a corner. Although he'll be a good player on either side of the ball wherever he goes imo.

Is he being recruited as a WR by tOSU?

  • I think he's being recruited as a "Playmaker" but not ruling out the defensive side of the ball....

People said that they might continue to recruit him. Which they still may. He won't be considered a commit if he visits, and they will look around at other kids to fill his spot, but the reason that Dawson was completely shown the door was because of the lying.

If you visit, then your scholly is pulled. If your spot is still open after the visit and the coaches still want you on the team, your able to commit again. If you visit a school without informing the coaches, or plan on doing so without telling them while your commited to Michigan, your scholly is pulled and probably wont get it back.

Well, good luck to him. That he is visiting for this game means I would rather just wave goodbye and happily move on.

This, I hold no grudge. Could he have handled it better/more mature? Sure, but I don't get worked up about the decision of a teenager

The sad thing, a lot of grown men on these recruiting sites do. It makes them seem less mature than the teenager making the decision. It gets old hearing people complaing about Treadwell and Dawson. Now it will be Conley... Move out of your parents basement and get a life!

  • Ahh well. I would rather have the spots for a chance at Leon McQuay, Treadwell, Green, and/or another O-linemen...

    Who want to come here.

  • Do you guys think with Brady's rule of "If you visit somewhere else, I'll consider you not committed" may sometime in the future, cut down on your early verbals that could lead to possibly losing out on some kids?

I'm not saying it's right or wrong as I see both sides of it. A coach needs to know who he's got coming in, but possible burning that bridge if they "just want to go see a game" may bite him... On the other hand, I watched as Jim Tressel almost talked kids out of committing early and encouraged them to take all of their visits only to be shutout on signing day....

    Tough business that recruiting....

Nope. I like the policy. As long as the kids know about the policy i have no problem with it. I would prefer a recruit to take all the visits and see all the schools they need to see before committing to any school.

It's a catch 22.....If they commit early, then it's a constant "guard dog" mentality hoping to keep all others away from him...If they don't commit til NSD, then you don't know what you've got coming in and hard to recruit a certain position as you won't know til NSD what you've got...

I still would love for CFB to implement and early signing period...It would honestly be the best thing for the kids too...if they sign early, it lets them enjoy their senior year of HS, keeps other coaches away from them, gives them some peace and quiet without the texts/emails/phone calls etc....And it is a HUGE plus for the coaches obviously...they'd know exactly what they have and see what they need...

Translation: MI pulls their scholarsship offer so later they can say they didn't want him - not they lost him to Ohio State.

Early signing period would be ideal. Along with the ability for kids to take officials as juniors.

However the staff's policy works. They might lose 2 kids over the course of a cycle. but programs that allow visits have the same thing happen. It's on the kids... they are told ahead of time, and if they agree to it, you take them at their word. Just as the coaches are giving them their word that they won't pull their offer because another kid that may be more highly regarded wants to come or they get hurt.

Texas lost RSJ, USC lost Redfield, and a couple of their other kids are looking, kids de-commit all the time, nothing will stop that entirely.
