Frank Clark = 25?

  • His current 2nd degree home invasion is a felony. No one is aware of the facts, and I'm not sure of any wiggle room to reduce the charges to a possible misdemeanor (did he have a plausible reason to steal/borrow a computer etc...). While this is a blow to current D-line depth, I feel we have incoming freshman who can pick up were FC left off last season. But to be honest, FC has a limited ceiling. He's a RR recruit who is undersized for his position, and is contributing because of current lack of depth, but who also could develop nicely under Mattison over the next few years. If he ends up being charged and convicted with a felony, he's kicked off the team, leaving the possibility to add a 25th recruit to this class. Would we take a DE such as Mathis or Muhammad? What position(s) and player are logical for the 25th position given that the roster would have 1 less DE?

  • Limited potential? Kid is an athletic freak that can live in the back field if he refines his technique.

Also, there is further attrition needed even to get to the number of kids currently in the class, so by cutting Clark it wouldn't add another spot.

  • He was a Hoke recruit and our best past rusher during spring practices.

That said I think Mario O will make us forget about him quickly. He's now in the two deep.

24 is already accounted for, if you have a previously unaccounted scholarship removed from the team by removing a sophomore, you create 1 open scholarship.

Did Hoke exclusively recruit him in the 1 month before signing day in 2011? I can't recall if he just cleaned up what RR set up

The 24 is accounted for by future attrition, Frank Clark could become part of that. It has not been accounted for yet.

agreed, he looked to have some big time potential. really dissapointed by this. Hate for this to happen at our program and I really don't wana see Clark go but if true that would seem very likely.

Exactly, Frank Clark has not been accounted for yet. He has not been apart of the accounted attrition. This alleged offense occurred on June 14th, and Clark was arrested on June 19th. The coaches have been saying for months that this class would be 24 total based on expected attrition. Clark would not be apart of that expected attrition unless they coaches were clairvoyant several months ago and could foresee him being arrested for stealing a macbook pro/air computer. And if he is redshirted and kept on the team, he still doesn't become apart of that expected attrition. As of now he is still a member of the team, and a class of 24 has been anticipated then and now while FC being on scholarship....so if his scholly is taken away, 1 more player lost due to attrition.

  • Although this could create a circumstance where they still only take 24 kids.....Kicking FC off the team could allow them to bring back a RS junior for next year that they anticipated on letting go, or someone else they accounted for in the previous attrition.

I agree, think he could be a great player but we can't have this goin on at Michigan. We don't know the facts yet but if it is the way it sounds its completely unacceptable.

Mario is too light not strong enough to play yet

I don't think that is how it works. The attrition the coaches are expecting is all unexpected. They don't know who will leave but they know it always happens. Frank Clark just happened and so is now part of the expected attrition that the coaches are counting on to get to 24. Essentially none of the expected attrition has been accounted for yet (except for probably a 5th year or two).

  • The attrition for 24 spots can be made alone by not extending a 5th year to some current RS juniors

yes but I don't see that many 5th years they can afford to not bring back. One or two, sure. I forget the exact numbers but we need 4 or 5 just to get to 24. Anyone know where we stand numbers wise right now? I used to know but have lost track.

Just looked at the roster and I guess I could see 4 tops but that would mean relying a ton on the 2012 class for defensive depth.

THis. No way the kid is ready for line play. If all of this sticks to Clark and we don't see much of him, I'm guessing you see some nickle formation with Jake Ryan putting his hand up on the ground (or rushing out of a 3-3-5 alignment).

  • Ojemudia was a recruit that the coaches were thrilled about landing... His pass rushing skills are very good... Obviously needs to gain weight but I would not be surprised to see him pass Frank if he has to sit for more than Bama... Oje's first step is blinding... Its not a good thing for Clarks PT IMO...

Well, if the facts of the case detail that Frank Clark actually stole a Mac book, I think dismissal is called for. So that would be pretty bad for his playing time.

We have 78 schollies used now and 13 seniors. That means we have 20 open scholarships to get to 85. There are nine RS JRs, but only 1-3 that could be unrenewed. That's at most 23 schollies for the 2013 class. The coaches expect attrition every year - it's just natural. That doesn't mean they have players in mind who they think will not be there next year, it just means there's always something that will happen.

Ojemudia would not pass Clark this year. Ojemudia should RS 100%. He's only like 6'3 215. Has to put on a ton of muscle before seeing the field.

And you're all severely underestimating Clark - he's one of our best defenders. Freak athlete who has a huge ceiling once he learns the position and technique better

  • I thought Clark and Brennen Beyer have been neck and neck for the starting spot since early spring. Clark may have had the nod, but it seems to me like the coaches thought it's pretty close between the two.

Ok, beyer is the starting wde anyways, he got big and stronger then clark this offseason and separated himself there. Now fall camp would truly decide but clark in my opinion was going to play on third and 5+. So if he is gone, which we shouldn't judge(even though he looks gone to me) then ojemudia may be able to play just passing down like clark was going to. If he could get in the 230 range its possible since he won't have to worry about the run

  • I was really really looking forward to clark though. He would have had sack, and lots of them.

BTW for those discussing adding 25. Even if clark is gone, I believe we still need one more to leave the team before we get to that magic 24th.
