If you listen closely, it sounds to me like you can hear somebody shout "Jehu"

Plus, that does not look like Funchess' body frame at all.

Jehu is the guy on the right of the video after Devin catches the ball.

  • I always wondered if devin would become more of a wr that a te. Maybe that's become the plan with his weight

IMO, it would be a horrible waste. He's got the frame to provide decent blocks on the edge. If he doesn't pick up the technique to block and moves outside, he becomes a decent possession receiver, rather than the potential All-American he can become at TE.

Totally agree. He's got the good hands of a receiver, but I just don't see the agility or the ability to effectively cut to get seperation that a receiver needs. He could probably get some jump balls as a receiver, but his effectiveness would be reduced. As a TE, he won't need to be a great route runner to get that seperation; he'll get cleaner releases with LBs often covering him as a TE. He just needs a bit more weight to be an effective blocker so it doesn't tip 'PASS!' all the time when he subs in.

And in that sense, AJ Williams weight loss was far more important than Funchess' weight gain.

The muscle mass will come with Funchess, and he doesn't need that much.

Knowing Williams is putting in the effort to become a better target is big.

I was very happy to see AJ drop that weight; shows dedication. The fact that it happened so quickly tells me he was carrying some bad weight as well. The 260-270 range is plenty to be an effective blocker as TE provided he learns proper technique. Hopefully he'll take that step to actually be a pass-catching threat as well.

Plus they will always have a spot for funchess to catch passes. I think it will help us so mutch mkre with a dual threat opposite him.

Funch needs to gain 10 pounds at most (top of at 240), so people chill out its not a big deal
