Been saying this since last year. Everyone said wait until he runs his offense but thays not it, its his whole philosophy.

I agree. People will give him a pass because he doesn't have his personnel, but still. That's no excuse.

Right before his interception on the last drive, there was one target. underthrown and behind

I didn't notice that it was him.

But let's be real. Our playcalling was predictable.

    - For instance, when we had 3rd and short, Gardner should've been the QB and Denard Robinson should've been the RB. We should've done a fake zone read to suck the defense in and then thrown into the middle on slants.

    That's basic play-calling 101.

    - Then having Gardner throw long on most 1st downs? When he misfired, we were behind on the down and distance. And that snowballed.

Preaching to the choir, it's just at that point now where I'm starting to realize we just saved Luke Fickells job. That's how bad it was the second half.

Luke hasn't really been on the hotseat the 2nd half of the season. His defense has played pretty good the last 4 or 5 games. I think he called a good game today, gave up a 75 yd TD Pass, a 67 yd TD run, but nothing else really. I was pretty happy with the defense today overall. I will say, your staff made it easier the last 2 drives not having DRob on the field.

He gets to stubborn and or cute at times! I'm not a fan of Borges - haven't been since the sugar bowl play callin! Michigans d held Ohio to 2 field goals the second half- michigans o didn't cross the 50?

  • It's just baffling to me that he could call such a great 1st half, and then struggle like he did in the 2nd. Did we see any formations with Devin AND Denard in the game in the 2nd half?? It seemed to me that we were pretty successful the entire 1st half when both were in the game.

  • I thought they would run a Tebow play and fake run it with Denard then he would pull back and pass it.

  • I don't think Borges should be fired but I do question him running 5-foot-6, 180-pound Vincent Smith on 3rd and short up the middle.

  • A bit of overreaction here. Probably not the best called game, especially the second half. The guy was brought in to run a pro-style system and has yet to have the players to do it. I do not see any changes coming in the near future. You all might as well get use to it.

  • Look, I can understand that Denard Robinson isn't the sort of QB that Borges is used to coaching, and I can understand that the offense that best utilizes Denard's skills isn't one that he's used to designing or calling.

But a good coordinator can work with the weapons he has and get a good result. Look at Mattison, taking literally one of the worst defenses in CFB and turning them into one of the 10 or 15 best in the space of a year. And Denard Robinson, properly utilized, is The. Best. Weapon. In. College. Football. Squandering him the way Borges did the past two years is simply inexcusable. He HAS to be fired. Period. If he can't call and design the right plays with Denard, why should I have any faith at all he'll call the right plays for Shane Morris? What if we sign DeShone Kizer next year, or Jayru Campbell in 2015, or any other quarterback who can use his legs at any point...why should I trust that Borges can utilize them to their full potential?

And more than just Borges' complete inability to use one of the greatest gifts an incoming offensive coordinator has ever been given, everyone, even the people who think Denard sucks and read-option/spread offenses are gimmicky and suck, has to be concerned with the way his playcalling has completely imploded on multiple occasions this year. Borges is overly conservative; when he finds things that work he doesn't stick with them; when he finds things that don't work he gets stubborn and keeps trying them; he calls retarded gimmicks at times they're completely uncalled for (see Vincent Smith's interception in the red zone against Notre Dame), and goes with completely vanilla awfulness when innovation is called for (see the entire 2nd half against Ohio State).

What was are record last year? We lost this year to two undefeated teams, Bama, and Nebraska w/o a quarterback. ALL ON THE ROAD. Wake up people.

  • Denard should have been in the ball game in the last 5 minutes period.

Yeah because he had 6 yards in the second half on 6-7 carries. OSU made and obvious adjustment at halftime.

That's because we decided to run him straight up the middle.

No Denard should of been run outside like he was in the 1st half not up the flipping middle like he was in the 2nd half.

Our record last year was largely a function of our defense.

Btw, anyone notice that Borges calls particularly bad games on the road?

Both times he ran up the middle they were options. The outside man was covered both times. SO running outside would not have matter much.

Yeah he is much worse on the road. He has acknowledged that. Has been comparing what he does at home to the road to try to improve....so he has said.

  • I think Borges is a 6/10 coordinator, he's passable, if you consistently had more talent than your opponents that would work, but that's not the case. We won't win many conference titles or go to the BCS playoffs just merely hoping on that to pan out.

What saddens me about Borges is how backward-thinking it is to have him in that position. The last 5 years college football's offenses have changed dramatically, we now routinely see teams put upward of 40 points up and 60+ points is far from unheard of. This is an age of offensive innovation, there are so many young offensive minds out there. And we literally go with a nearly 60 year old who was considered an up and comer 15 years ago and whose offensive concepts are as exciting or ground-breaking as your dad's Oldsmobile.

Ohio State and Notre Dame were both extremely winnable games that we lost in no small part thanks to atrocious game plans and playcalling. This is Michigan fergodssakes, I'm not satisfied with "moral victories" and close calls against top opponents.

With better coaching, we would have beaten Ohio and ND, and we might not be in the B1G championship game thanks to Nebraska, but we'd be 10-2 with and an extremely attractive BCS at-large candidate. Instead, we're 8-4 and headed to the Gator Bowl where we can get rolled by Texas A&M. Awesome.

The 6 Int's vs ND and The 3 second half turnovers in the OSU didn't help. I guess Big AL threw those bad passes and coughed up the ball.

This is not a Borges issue. This is a Hoke/tradition issue. Great defense and an alright offense. Harbaugh did alright with it though. Need a solid QB and good TE's. Right now we have a 3 game starter and a couple freshman.

This is one of the dumbest arguments. And it's also strangely reminiscent of the Rich Rod years.

I stopped keeping track of the number of times Rich Rod apologists said "I guess RR threw that interception." or "I guess RR coughed up the ball."

A team takes on the image/personality of the coaches.

Weird how Mattison's defense is having little trouble getting production with lesser players.

His argument is that it was Borges fault we didn't win. This argument makes perfect sense. The production was there because we out gained ND, but had 6 turnovers. Explain how the argument doesn't apply instead of downvoting me for pointing out a flaw in his argument.
