Ferns Commits To Michigan

  • Todd Worly said...

Huge get for the Wolverines. I think Ferns can have a heck of a career on either side of the ball. One advantage of landing almost the entire 2013 class so early in the process is that Michigan has been able to focus more time and attention on the 2014 prospects. Hopefully it continues to pay off.

Is this the kid you were hinting at for the BBQ?

I can see the Ohio boards now. His offer was non commitable, Urbie did not want him and he's not elite enough for us. We have all heard them.

I will never get tired of the Bucknuts and what they have to say. They are idiotic yet hilarious.

  • It is a great pickup, but we had no chance from the start no matter who the coach is because he just moved to Ohio so was never really an OSU fan, and he claimed to not want to go to a bigger city which Columbus would be. We never really had a shot at the kid.

  • Congrats to you guys. It stings a little bit. Reminds me of Jordan Hicks; grew up out of state, moved to Ohio for a few years then picked a school OOS. It's a good start for you guys in '14.

Seems like a great pick up to start the 2014 class. What state did he move from before landing in Ohio. ?

  • West Virginia I believe they said and heard his whole family was WVU fans. Kid has probably never lived in a place with more than 10,000 people and so have I, so if I didn't love OSU as much as I do I would probably make a similar choice based on size of the town the college is in. Something about those smaller towns.

West Virginia. Jordan Hicks (2009 class?) grew up in Texas, played football in Ohio for a few years, then committed to Texas. Even though he didn't grow up here, it still felt like a boulder smashing into your head. lol

Since June 10, 2011, Hoke has landed eight Ohio kids with Ohio State offers (Strobel, Kalis, Wormley, Thomas, McCray, Smith, Gedeon, Ferns). In the TEN (!!!) classes from 2002-2011, Michigan landed SEVEN Ohio kids with OSU offers (Crable, Burgess, Mike Massey, Manningham, Boren, Koger, Turner). That's....mind-boggling.

I do not find it very mind boggling. People I think tend to forget that Hoke recruited mostly Ohio at Ball State. There he got MAC talent kids and treated them great. I find it funny when people claim Urbs lost the fence around Ohio. Tressel would of too.

  • Ferns is an excellent pickup. Will probably be a top-50 player in 2014. #1 in Ohio potentially. The significance of this pickup has not been felt yet.

Didn't Depriest grow up a Michigan fan?

I know for sure that he camped at Michigan.

  • Nice pickup for Michig*n. Surely would have never happened while Rich Rod was there; but I've said all along I'd rather have a strong rival versus a weak one.

If we get a commitment soon from Booker, I'll be happy. I also like where we sit with McMillan and Garrett.

Yeap he sure did, but unfortunately with the defensive mess we had the last few years , it went south real quick. His high school team wore a winged helmet also, go figure. He is now starting for UA. arghhhh frustrating.

Thanks Todd. Any idea were he ranks overall in the state of Ohio as a prospect at this time ?. I know it's real early.

We've currently got him fifth overall in Ohio right now. Like you said, it's still very early, so he could easily move up or down that list over the next two years.

  • Two names.. Dante Booker, who is the #1 ILB in the country and Reakon McMillian who is a 5 star. No one gives a crap about Ferns in buckeye land. Michigan last year had 17 kids from Ohio on their roster, 16 of those OSU never offered and half most is Ohioans never even heard of. Seriously I think some of those kids didn't even start on their high school team. Take Ferns, Dante would smack him like a MAC truck.

Yawn, McMillian most likely stays in GA and Booker is a 4* and not the #1 ILB in the country. To your point about our current roster, 11-2>6-7, also 40-34. If you're going to come over here, don't act like an idiot and troll.
