FINALS!!!!!! Monday @ 9:20 ET

KU is overrated. Please put them on our bracket instead of IU, Louisville or Duke.

Ken Pom thinks you should reconsider.

Even if Kansas is overrated, Kansas is still a (very) good team. And Bill Self is one of the top 5 coaches in the country.

What Bill Self is doing with this roster is nothing short of amazing. This Kansas team is lacking in talent Hence, Self has prioritized defense (which is more about effort and position) rather than offense (which is more about skill).

And this is reflected in the stats. Kansas is 18th in the country in adjusted offensive efficiency but 6th in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency.

    -----

Duke is hobbled right now. Ryan Kelly's absence is notable. He was an underrated cog of the Duke machine and the advanced stats indicate his impact. I'm not sure we have an accurate picture of what Duke is without Kelly. And senior SG Seth Curry is also suffering from a lingering injury.

Louisville is actually a better version of Kansas.

I'm still undecided on Indiana. I want to see how we perform against the Hoosiers.

However, Florida seems to be the most balanced team in the nation.

  • Kenpom also thinks Pitt is a top 10 team. Sorry, but I watch a lot of college basketball and have seen most of top 20 teams play multiple times already this season. I would much rather see UM face KU in the NCAA tourney than UL, IU, UF or Duke. And you explained why yourself ... KU is down slightly talent-wise this year. Self should get a lot of credit for how well he has them playing, but they have a relatively easy schedule and have nearly lost several games that should not even have been close (e.g. Texas). Kenpom is a computer algorithm that tries to predict future performance based on certain variables. It is far from infallible and IMO Kansas is not one of the top 5-6 teams in the country whether Kenpom has them ranked that highly or not.

Very nice. @ Miami could be a very difficult game for Duke. I don't see us losing any of our next three, we could very well move up to #1 in the next poll.

Yeah, I think if we just keep winning we will jump Duke eventually due to the toughness of the B1G.

Using the outlier to discredit Ken Pom doesn't make sense. 7 of Ken Pom's top 10 teams are also in the AP's newest top 10. And 2 of Ken Pom's top 10 teams (Ohio and Minnesota) are in the AP's top 15.

And while it's not infallible, it is used for a reason - because it has consistently (outside of 2011) done a great job of predicting Final Four teams.

But I understand what you're saying. Kansas has definitely escaped some losses - for instance Iowa State at home and Texas on the road.

I'm actually hoping that KU goes back to its days of choking early in the NCAAT under Bill Self.

If we win our next 2 games (Purdue at home and Illinois on the road) then yes Michigan should be the new #1.

Then if we lose @Indiana, it'll be ridiculous how many consecutive weeks the #1 went down.

I was surprised at Morgan's incompetence tonight.

In the second half, we went to him on 3 straight possessions and he missed all 3 times. (It seemed to me that the coaching staff instructed our players to isolate him on the block to see if we could get him going when the game was still back-and-forth.)

But I'm excited about Mark Donnal (2013 commit) who I think will be an excellent PF at the college level. Skilled player that is a stretch 4 but also does well in the post. Donnal should be an excellent complement to McGary.

And I'm even more excited about Ricky Doyle in the 2014 class. He is what I wish Morgan would become.

How much interest does Doyle have in us? If you want him Frank, I'd take him too. I trust your evaluating skills. Haha

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

But I really don't know where our coaches stand with Doyle.

UMHoops.com mentioned that our coaches are interested in him and that he's interested in us (partly because many of his family members are Michigan fans).

Florida seems to be showing interest in him especially after he attended one of Donovan's summer camps.
