Can we add addendum? No Akunne unless Michigan is blowing out their opponent, with less than 2 minutes left.

I like Vogrich starting and Stauskas coming off the bench. We really need another guard to step up and start playing better. Hardaway, B urke and Stauskas are playing more minutes than i would like. I am starting to worry they will wear down in March. I think the reason you are seeing Akunne getting some minutes in the first half of games is because Coach B is looking for that other guard to take some minutes and Eso had been shooting the ball well. Coach B decided to try playing him at the 2 with Burke at the point. Eso took 2 horrible shots tonight and might of killed his chance.

I don't mind it either. Having Stauskas come off the bench, along with McGary, is like instant energy. The starting line-up with Vogrich hasn't played terrible and Stauskas is still in the majority of time so why try to fix something that isn't broke.

I'm glad that one of our "shooters" is finally living up to his billing. Stu and Vogrich were know for their shooting and shot average. Stauskas is shooting lights out right now.

  • Some teams don't like playing all their 5 best players all at one time. Gotta have that 6th man to come in and give a spark. Fortunately we have a guard and a big man that can do that and they're both Frosh. I think easing Stauskas into a starting role is smart. Remember he's just a freshman....he'll have some growing pains and what not. I think by bringing him off the bench fresh when the opposing team may not be so much, helps cut down on the freshmen type mistakes.

Exactly my thoughts. I like the fact that they can balance the rotation with him coming off the bench. If he's playing the same, or more, minutes it really doesn't matter. We have 4 legit scorers in Burke, Hardaway, Robinson, and Stauskus, so I'd love to see a rotation making sure to keep 2 of them on the floor at all times, mixing in bench players to rest 2 of them occasionally, then close with all 4 down the stretch.

Maybe starting them all works if their conditioning is fine and it's not a tough game, but in a tough matchup, having them all get tired, then bringing in say Spike and Vogrich, you're left with 2 tired scorers, 2 OK guys who aren't going to dominate anyone, and a big. That can be a recipe for a 5 minute drought, or forcing guys back in with no rest which kills you at the end of games.

I liked what we saw some of yesterday where you'd have Trey/Hardaway/Vogrich/Robinson/Morgan, then Spike/Stauskus/Hardaway/Robinson/Morgan, then Burke/Spike/Stauskus/McGary/Morgan so you were rotating the scorers around and getting them a few minutes of rest.

Please Coach B .. start Stauskas in place of Vogrich already.

    Thanks.

I actually like Stauskas coming off the bench, as long as he gets the majority of the minutes.

Think of James Harden in OKC or Many Ginobili.

I was thinking the same thing watching that game... Some people on the Scout board were flipping out how he was the next Draymond Green where he was really high on Michigan, so Sparty went in and offered and landed him. He did have a pretty bad foot injury at one point though that required multiple surgeries, so has to be hard to come back from that.

  • Who else is pulling for OSU?

Also, do they re-jump us if they beat Duke or do we slide up to #2?

If they won, I bet it would go Indiana - OSU - Michigan in the rankings. We beat NC State at home, if they beat Duke in Cameron that's impressive.

  • roflmao OSU lost. Craft has problems scoring the basketball. I don't see the debate with Burke and Craft, they aren't even in the same league IMO. Craft is a good defender, I don't think he is a shut down defender against good offensive point guards.

Burke is really, really good at handling the ball and creating not only his own shot but for the guys around him

Now that I think about it .. if the coaches aren't gonna burn LeVert's redshirt, then I'm ok with Vogrich starting and having Nik come off the bench. As long as Vogrich gets his head out of his butt. I'm not sure what he was doing last game in those first 3 minutes.

Both Burke and Craft are very good point guards, but they have completely different games that makes them hard to compare.

Burke is the better scorer - both shooting wise and off the dribble. Craft is the better defender. I think they're about equal in the creation ability - maybe an edge to Burke becomes teams are trying to force the ball out of his hands, while teams dare Craft to score.

In years past Craft has been the perfect fit for OSU - with Sullinger, Thomas, Buford, etc. as the main scoring threats he was the perfect facilitator and lock down defender. Last night, his lack of scoring really hurt them, but they still have time to develop a secondary scorer - like Lenzelle Smith - to pick up the slack.

I wouldn't mind seeing Levert's redshirt burned if Vogrich doesn't start playing better. If Levert could give us 15 min or so a game and just put up 5 or 6 points, rebound a bit, and play decent defense it would be worth it.

Regardless of what happens, I'm excited we have him for next year. We will probably lose a lot of quality players after this season and Levert could step in to the starting lineup if he's as good as advertised and continues progressing. Going up against this team's talent everyday in practice, I have nothing but optimism.

Agree. No substitute for the lightning in the bottle a scorer off the bench can provide.
