Elliott Mealer- Your thoughts?

  • I come in peace as a buckeye fan looking for some info on a good friend of mine. Elliott is a hometown buddy so im not your typical fan that hates Michigan. I've spent alot of time throughout his career in ann arbor and have really enjoyed it. That being said, he has never been one to talk much about football. I followed most of the games but I just wanted to get some opinions from michigan fans about how you thought he played this year?

  • He will be lucky to make a practice squad

  • The interior line as a whole was awful, but I think it was more so the guards than Mealer. He wasn't outstanding, or even necessarily good, but he was serviceable. He had a huge billing to live up to following Molk (Remington winner) and I think he was in a tough position. He's got a great story and seems like a genuinely good person, but he was just a mediocre center.

  • He did the best he could, but he honestly shouldn't have ever been starting. Ricky Barnum was a failure at C, so I'll give Mealer credit for stepping up there, but he had a lot to live up to after Molk left.

  • Does he play for Michigan? Oh, then I love him and he like everyone else gave it their all for the entire season (practices included). I have no complaints, but he will need to step up his game to keep the younger guys from beating him out. Great kid. Go Blue.

  • Wasn't bad drive blocking, but wasn't all that good at finding and locking on to his assignment, both because he is a little stiff and because he didn't seem to sure of what he was supposed to do.

Wouldn't have been a liability, but he was flanked by two guys that also never really picked up the system.

I could see him making a practice squad.

  • Elliot Mealer is all that is right about college football. He loves the game, cares for his university, and makes his university look good. After being through all that he has been through since the accident, I'm very happy that he accomplished his goal of starting at UM.

I do not think he has much of a future in the NFL, but he's got a great future ahead of him.

  • A true Michigan man. Didn't see a lick of playing time for four years but stayed the coarse. Need more personalities like him.

  • Michigan Man, through and through. He and his whole family, who I have a lot of respect for. The kid probably was a stretch to start for us this year, but he gave it his all. I wish him all the best.

  • Mealer was slightly above average for a center this year. In all honesty I felt that he was a lot like Campbell were he lost his competitive edge for awhile at Michigan. Coaching changes and position changes have a way of doing that. Family tragedy probably played a large role too. This last season was his fifth year and he stepped up at center but his inexperience really showed at times. I'm not sure he will make it at the next level. I could see it happening but he might be on a practice squad for a year or two before he gets a chance.
I wish him the best of luck in football and in life from everything I have read he is a great guy.

  • I myself think he has more heart than many on the team showed. 5 years he battled to get past what happened to his family and himself. Never make that some minor thing. As far as playing he was never a true center but gave it his all. He was not great at opening holes but he did a good job of pass blocking. He has a good football IQ and makes quick decisions. All in all I feel he could have been a great OL if not for the terrible tragedy.

  • Thanks for all the post. I'm glad to hear he played well. I was just happy to see him get an opportunity so anything else was a bonus. I know he isn't disappointed about his decision to select Michigan over OSU. Its awesome what Michigan has done for him and his family.
