Elite safety McQuay III takes in A2

Seffner, FL (Armwood) Top247 safety Leon McQuay III came away impressed with what Michigan had to offer after his unofficial visit today.

  • McQuay is not a big fan of the recruiting process and all the attention. He keeps things very close to the vest. The feel I got was that he will still be a tough pull from schools closer to home but the Music production program at Michigan really gave him something to think about because that will be a big part of his decision.

He's the #8 player in Florida, #36 overall.

  • McQuay said he is being recruited very hard by Michigan but Notre Dame and Clemson were recruiting him the hardest.

  • Thanks Clint!

McQuay is actually very musically talented. Check out some of his music on soundcloud (below).

  • Here is a hypothetical...

Looking at the DB supers that we are recruiting, Fuller, McQuay, Cravens (longshot most likely), etc., what happens if more than one wants to commit. With limited space in the class, do the coaches accept a 5th DB (Thomas, Lewis, and Conley already in the fold) verbal if it is a super like Fuller, McQuay, or Cravens, or do they shut it down? It's clear that they are looking for one more tall corner, but I'd have a hard time not taking a top recruit. It looks to me that the coaches will stick to their plan and only fill positions of need (see LB, OL recruiting). What say you?

  • I think the coaches would be more open to McQuay or Fuller + Cravens than McQuay and Fuller but not Cravens since both McQuay and Fuller are being recruited as CBs whereas Cravens is an ATH. Hard to imagine turning away any of these guys if they wanted to come though. Would be a good problem to have, I suppose.

I think we would take two corners, frankly, if they are high rated. And McQuay and Fuller are both types that could probably play Safety.

But agreed...it would be a nice 'problem' to have to pick and choose.

One big factor in this hypothetical would be where Michigan stands with other positions at that point. Has another running back and/or receiver already committed? If not, Michigan could conceivably go the best player available route, and decide that one of these defensive backs is a better overall player than any running back/receiver still on the board. As others said, it'd be a great problem to have.
