Sorry. Yes I'm a homer, but this is BS. We will be better in 2013 than 2012.

  • hmmmm....

If the defense comes through in spite of the loss of Roh, Campbell, and Kovacs.

  • Please tell me I'm not the only one that noticed how Helwagon spun Ohio's schedule into a bad thing? I also find it funny how everyone outside of Michigan fans thought Campbell was worthless but now he's a huge departure.

  • If 'Bama plays OSU for the NC next year it's going to be a repeat of the Michigan and ND games from this year.

    THIS. So much THIS.

Neither UM or OSU are at the talent level to face a good top tier SEC team.

At least we recognize it. I haven't seen a single OSU fan admit that they'd get massacred even if they do end up in the national championship.

  • Helwagen: This was a lot of fun to go in and research exactly what everybody is losing and what everybody has coming back.

Me: So is Penn State ineligible for these rankings or do you not think they're a top 50 team?

Helwagen: Let me look at penn state and report back

Either he sucks at research or he just forgot about PSU. Or he's just too biased to include them.

I'm going with all of the above.

I agree. Just doing my job and posting it here because its part of 247Sports and mentions Michigan. I do not agree with OSU being No. 2 though. I'd personally put them around the 10 range and Michigan about 12-15.

  • Clint et al, if this is frowned upon, please let me know - but since it's being discussed already, I wanted to query board members about another...preview out there sans creating a separate thread.

Does anyone else find CFN predicting Michigan State to finish first in "our" division somewhat...odd? And then:

"Michigan: It seems like the Wolverines have been a year away for a while now, and they might be a year away once again. Brady Hoke has done a whale of a job recruiting, and he could end up with the No. 1 class of 2013, but for this year, there are massive holes that need to be filled on both sides of the ball."

    Excerpt from: http://cfn.scout.com/2/1260535.html

Ahm. "Massive" holes on both sides? The departures of Roh, Campbell, and Jordan are "massive" holes to fill? One could easily argue that MSU lost considerably more on offense than Michigan lost on defense, yes? And that is said with the utmost respect for Roh/Campbell/Jordan.

shrug Maybe they're being literal? Will Campbell is, arguably, "massive."

  • I would put northwestern at #21 and drop everyone else down a spot.
Great article should be a great season.

I would def put Michigan ahead of MSU whoever thinks they should be a preseason favorite must be on drugs.

Well i guess i will be the first...If we played Bama it wouldn't be pretty for us. We have nowhere near their top end talent or depth! Now give Urban another 2 to 3 years and we will compete with anyone anywhere and thats not being a homer that is a FACT! Hoke is doing well in recruiting but at the skill position he is failing miserably and again thats not being a homer thats a fact! Urban is and will continue to bring in good/great skill position players yet we lack UM OL recruiting and once we start getting lineman its going to be scary! You guys desperately need Green and TBH i hope you guys land him because i want our rivalry to still be the greatest sports rivalry and to be that UM needs great skill position players and Green would be a step in the right direction.

The only thing Hoke has missed on is highly rated WRs, which means almost nothing seeing the absurd amount of highly rated WR busts there have been compared to other positions.

I'll take a great OL and #1 RB over superstars at the WR position.

I see your point but i rebuttal with the D-Line and LB Urban is bringing in and that basically trump your O-Line ( a great defense almost always beats a great offense) OL are the hardest to scout and see there next level potential.

Eh, all positions bring their fair share of highly rated duds. Your recruits are as much of a guarantee as Michigans at this point. The only team that is close to a lock to live up to their recruiting ranking is Bama. Not to mention, it's college and even the best defenses last year had games where they gave up 30+ points to good offenses (Bama gave up 29). Having a good defense is no guarantee if the other team has similar talent and executes really well.

Here's a reality check for Ohio fans like you:

In 2009, Urban Meyer's Florida team had the following players in its 2 deep:

    - QB Tim Tebow
    - TE Aaron Hernandez (Pro-Bowl)
    - C Maurkice Pouncey (Pro-Bowl)
    - OG Mike Pouncey
    - WR Riley Cooper
    - LB Brandon Spikes
    - CB Major Wright
    - DE Carlos Dunlap
    - DE Jermaine Cunningham
    - CB Joe Haden
    - WR Chris Rainey
    - S Will Hill
    - CB Ahmad Black
    - CB Janoris Jenkins

I'm probably forgetting a few names but that's at least 14 current NFL players from the 2009 Florida team who play (or have played meaningful snaps) at the pro level.

The 2009 team did not have Percy Harvin or Louis Murphy from the 2008 team but it was was one year older.

That 2009 team lost 32-13 to Alabama.

It is unlikely that Meyer's future Ohio teams will be more loaded then his Florida teams. He built his Florida teams when Bobby Bowden was a lame duck coach at FSU and while Miami suffered through Randy Shannon. In other words, he was able to snag more Florida talent with less competition from in-state rivals.

After Meyer's 2009 team was beaten convincingly 32-13 in the 2009 SEC Title game and after Meyer's 2010 team was crushed 31-6 in Tuscaloosa, the Saban-Alabama dynasty forced Urban Meyer into early retirement.
