Early Look @ Nebraska

    I don't agree.

I think we would still allow 30+ points.

However, I think our offense would be better and that we would be able to score 3 maybe even 4 TDs because of the emergence of Devin Funchess and Drew Dileo to complement the maturation of Devin Gardner.

If our offense is scoring 3-4 TD's, then odds are there aren't many Turnovers and Michigan has decent time of possession. Without the TO's from last game, Alabama would be under 30 seein as they scored 41 w/ a short field all game.

I did not account for this. Good point.

However, I feel that we would need to have a lot of intermediate or long passes to move the ball so time of possession would not be a big factor imo.

I still think that we would be not able to run on Bama's defense.

Even the most vaunted of rushing attacks would loathe a matchup against the Tide D.

Yeah, I don't see anybody running on that D... it's the worst possible matchup for UM really.

  • Nebraska fans seem to be really underrating our defense.. In their predictions most of them have Nebraska putting up 28 to 35 points on us.

I think it's more confidence in their offense.

I think it's that Michigan has not faced an offense like Nebraska yet. There will be some give and take when Nebraska has the ball. I believe whoever wins the turnover battle will win the game.

  • Everyone keeps talking about this nebraska offense, but really who have they played that has a good defense???

but yet everyone keeps talking about michigan has a good defense but they havent played anyone good except alabama and ND. Well Alabama torched them but ND didnt. Well out of 7 games and 2 of them are vs the #1,#5 ranked team. That ain't good enough so far? That idiot hart on BTN mentioned about michigan besides ala and ND who has michigan played? Is this guy for real? only 7 games played so far and they need to have played more high ranked teams to get credit? Does nebraska have it's current offense statistics if they played alabama and ND? I would bet not.

  • Put it this way....same Nebraska offense against a better UM defense from a year ago. Nebraska likes to fumble the ball and Borges is playing smash mouth football and not turning it over. If you ask me....this spells disaster for NU. Guaranteed we stuff the run and it will be all on Martinez' shoulders to beat us passing. If he can consistently hit his pass plays then we're in for a dog fight. If not, then it will get ugly.

Even if martinez goes into the air...no way he will put 300 yards on our pass def. That will be what they need to win the game since we stack the box. Also did any of you guys hear adam rittenberg? He actually said that penn st is probably the best team in the B1G. They go into iowa and beats the snot out of them and it's really something to talk about? Does iowa even have a pulse this year?

  • Was watching game film on TM and he still throws lame ducks, it more his receivers are making great plays or are wide open from playing inept defenses, wont be the case when BLUE rolls into towngoblue

  • Tm just looks good because he has played teams with bad defenses. Best team they played so far was wisconsin as far as Def is concerned. And wiscy not even that good, their just decent at Def. Neb put up 38 on Ohio st. No way in hell they put up more then 24 on us. And no way in hell they keep us under 24. If Neb don't come out pumping on all cylinders their really dead meat. Playing catch up in 4th quarters vs good defenses is more difficult then people think. Scoring 2 4th quarters Td's vs northwestern aint squat. I can't wait to watch big red get it's 2nd annual beat down this saturday. hooooowahhhhh

yes, but you lost to bama and nd....close to nd doesnt count (that is a stat for mac schools)

    that is the point...

look, i am a buckeye fan and we have our own problems but regarding um's d,

    you beat;

air force, umass, purdue, illini, and msu (not exactly the greatest resume)

i know, i know, i know we almost lost to everyone we played, and gave up 3 million yds and points (i get it, we suck)

but to answer your question, you need to beat nebraska, osu and whisky (big title game) to prove your d is good, just like we need to beat psu, whisky and um for our validation....

until then, there are dozens of teams that would have beat the 5 um have beat.....

My argument was why do people talk so highly of Neb offense when they haven't played anyone with a good defense. I for one think UM defense is good, not great. But to be ranked where we are nationally after playing vs Alabama,ND,mich state is worth talking about. Take alabama and ND out then we really havent played anyone worth talking about.
At the start of the season espn analyst boasted about FSu defense, but they also said they havent played anyone tough. But to hold the first 3 teams to just 3 points is impressive regardless of who they are. If Neb puts up 30 points on us this weekend I will submit and agree their offense is the real deal. Until then pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft.....

People talk highly of Nebraska's offense because,

It has a top 10 rushing stat line.
Taylor has a high completion rate
Taylor has high per game yards
Our WR's are very deep and explosive
    Our RB's are always good

We have the playmakers to put up points, now does that mean we will do that.... no

We live and die by Taylor Martinez, if he has a good game we have a good game.

Our defense isn't very good and we all know it. Our secondary is good... our LB'ers are average at best and our DL is the weakness.

I am not going to argue that we are going to beat you all, because my thoughts are we get spanked. We lead the NCAA in TO margin... as in lead by who has the worst margin.

We are a fumbling machine, and no matter what, we put it on the turf 4 times a game, we just usually recover it.

Let's not kid ourselves TM got some talent and so does his supporting cast. But how good would they look against the alabama/ND defense?

tough to say for certain against ND, Bama we get rolled... just like everyone else.

Looking purely at stats for Michigans offense and Nebraska's offense I assume we would put up around 20-24 on ND.

After I think about I might have to agree with you. ND defense is good but it's overrated imo. Had we not turned it over 6 times i'm sure we would have put up 20+ on them. No excuses in that loss, but they really got lucky that day that is for certain. lucky in a sense that dennard handed them that win on a silver platter and asked them if they needed any extra silverware.
