    iirc Drake started playing football his junior year in HS, previously a track guy. Posted the sixth fastest time in the country (not just HS) in the 60. He is now 6' 215 ponds, if he has matured and acclimated himself to the speed and physicality of the game he could very easily use his physical tools to be very successful,

    2nd year of football and he almost breaks the state single year rushing record, typical 2*

    I'm not sold either, but then again I haven't seen much of him either. This spring game should be big for him

  • I'd have to agree with Hoke and co overhyping someone too each year. Hoke could be a great politician the way he can talk for a hour and really not say anything to the media. I will stay very optimistic with Drake though. I guess it's my insatiable need to root for the underdogs and coming in as a two star recruit fits that bill.

    I really like his potential. But like others have said, I want to see him play some other competition before getting excited. I remember last year how everyone said Rawls was a beast, and the guy was barely effective during the season. The biggest issue is vision, which Rawls didn't have either, if he has patience and vision then I'll be really optimistic.

    I keep seeing comments like this about Rawls and they are unfair. No one except Denard was able to run the ball effectively last year because our interior OL play was not good and we had true FR much of the time at TE. Even Fitz, who ran for over 1,000 yards in 2011, struggled carrying the ball last year. OL play is critical to an effective rushing game and we just weren't very good up front as a unit. Let's hope we are better this year, but if we are it will not be because Rawls suddenly develops vision. It will be because our interior OL play improves significantly.

  • If you didn't pay attention to the line play last year, you're doing yourself a disservice. Watch clips of some of our offense last year and concentrate on the guards. pukeface

    Omameh never learned to pull in the two years Hoke was trying to get him to. He killed a handful of plays ever game by being absurdly slow getting out to the edge and ultimately following the ball carrier through the hole.

    And Barnum ole'd a ton of DT into the backfield.

    As my old OL coach used to say, Barnum was the master of the "Lookout Block."

    It's where you just turn around, look at your QB, and yell "LOOK OUT!"

    That would be funny if it weren't so true.

    I believe it was Brian at Mgoblog writing about the Michigan OLinemen's propensity for turning around and chasing guys they had missed into the backfield. Not only were they completely unable at putting a block on the guy they already missed and only further clogged running lanes, they left another guy unblocked should the ball carrier get by the first guy,

    My Gawd, he sure did arrive a day late and a dollar short on the Clowney play. It looked like they were trying to trap him, either that or the TE was supposed to one on one Clowney and completely whiffed.

    Lewan changed the protection before the snap, Kwiatkowski did not hear his call... boom.
