I hate the fact that one of us could win "The Game" and then have to face each other again in the CCG...
To me it dilutes the rivalry.
It would be much better to me if we were playing each other to get into the CCG...Let's face it, more times than not, we will probably be facing each other again in the CCG....
Take 2006 game...That was one of the best "Games" in my lifetime, even if you would've won, it would still have been the best......if we had to meet again a couple weeks later, that game wouldn't have mattered.....
Coach Hayes...Why did you go for two with such a big lead?..."Because we couldn't go for three"

Completely agree with you. I understand the other side of the argument, but this is too good of a rivalry to dilute it in any way, IMO. I thought the B1G really botched that when they formed the current system. And there are enough other quality programs in the conference that even if Michigan and OSU are in the same division, it's not like the winner of the other division will be awful

Yeah, I just think if we were playing and the winner, and only the winner, got to the CCG it would make the game just that much better....now, if we are both in the CCG, Our first game is basically just a chance for our players to get hurt because the only game that counts will be the next one....
I'm old, thus old school...I don't fear change, but i hate bad change....

I'd flip Wsconsin and Michigan....That gives us a big three of UM, OSU and PSU and they would have NE, MSU, WI.....better geographic fit as well....
Really hard to believe this wasn't thought about when the "brains" put these conferences together....I'm sure they thought "OSU v UM in CCG" but must not have cared about the best rivalry in CFB literally could be a meaningless game....
Those that like it this way, imagine in two weeks, DRob or Braxton go down with an injury and can't play the next week in the rematch.....what was the first game really for? NADA...bragging rights for a week? Look at how we all enjoyed the rematch of Bama and LSU....and that was 2 months between games....LSU won the 1st one but does anyone care?

I agree with you all around here.
And there are so many different options that would keep both divisions relatively balanced. Ideally, it'd probably be preferable to have Michigan and Michigan State in the same division as well. So one division could have Michigan, Ohio State and Michigan State, while the other division would have Nebraska, Penn State and Wisconsin. In other words, you'd just be swapping Ohio State and Nebraska - no other changes required. It may not be an ideal fit geographically, but the B1G purposely refrained from giving geographic names to the divisions so they could maintain flexibility regarding the alignment. Even as currently constructed, there isn't any geographic rhyme or reason to the divisions.

I think The Game should be moved to the very first game of the year. Even before the non-conference games. This would give the B1G a huge marquee game to open the season kind of like the SEC does. The other positive would be that the loser of The Game would be able to climb back up the rankings giving the B1G the best opportunity of getting 2 teams in the playoffs. Considering most years both schools would start out highly ranked, the winner would have a jump on getting to the playoffs thus giving the B1G the best opportunity at getting at least one team in the playoffs. In the event that both teams make the B1G title game it wouldn't be played in back to back weeks which might help the overall interest outside of the conference. Imagine having the entire offseason to promote and drool over a huge game to kickoff college football in our region. Just my opinion.

That would work if we'd join the SEC....because whoever loses would only drop from 5 to 8 or something....
I wouldn't like it to be the 1st game of the year for a couple reasons....It would be sloppy, and the students may not be in school at the time and that would cut down on the atmosphere and deprive the students from being involved in the rivalry....
If we can't be moved to same division (which to me is a no brainer), then I'd say move it to the 2nd game of the conference schedule...that way we both have 5 games under our belt, and have 6 more afterwards to move back up the rankings....

I too believe the two schools should be moved to the same division. I didn't consider the student part of it. That might be a good point. I do however agree that if the two aren't in the same division that The Game needs to be moved to an earlier date.

I love the possibility of playing ohio twice a season that the current set up of the B1G championship game provides. I can just imagine a future graduating Michigan player leaving with an 8-0 record against ohio in football, that makes me so happy and with the B1Gs current set up its a possibility.

Good point!

Do you guys think the BIG should've put UM/OSU in same division?
