Disregard, Conley canceled the visit

  • Sounds like we may be saying goodbye to Conley if true. I would assume that the staff would put on the full court press for McQuay III.

Why the hell would you visit Cincy when you are committed to Michigan? What does Cincy offer that is better than Michigan?

His high school QB is committed there. He stays in state although I don't know if he'd be closer to home as I know Cincy is southern Ohio but I'm not from the area. A bunch of things could play in and sometimes as fans we only compare these schools by program success and forget that just as most of us did they've gotta pick the college that's right for them. That means campus life education everything. I dont blame any kid for doing their homework before making this decision. I agree he should not have committed in the first place 100% but then again nothing is official til NSD anyway.

It's frustrating but I think the whole thing that's overlooked here is in that tweet it clearly says he's still solid to Michigan. No disrespect to anyone here but this board kind of has a history of jumping the gun with these things like the whole David Dawson fiasco. And tbh if we keep all but one of these 23 recruits for months before signing day then that's pretty impressive in this day and age of recruiting. So basically chin up guys lets see how things play out

I know McQuay is visiting you guys, but FSU already began the full court press and I don't see him anywhere else, unless USC has spot opened up and then it would still take a lot to get him out of FL. USC has Nelson Agholar who's friends with all these talented FL kids from the Tampa area. Conley would be a big loss for you guys no doubt. Will be very interesting to see how Michigan staff reacts if visits take place..

I'm with you, will be dissapointed if he leaves but I'm not gona worry about it until the visit happends. We've had several false scares about recruits. I think this is bound to happen when the coaches have a class nearly rapped up so early because people have nothing else to do but worry about the commits and follow every tweet. Hopefully it will be resolved with Conley still in the class but Michigan will be fine either way.

If this all pans out, look for the coaches to prove a point and hit the CB market hard, and I'm sure they will be looking for one of these CB prospects to commit while there is an opening with Conley being ambivalent....would be kind of funny if Conley gets left out, the coaches prove a point that you shouldn't visit other schools, and then he wants back in, but there are no more spots because you had little voices in your head.

  • This is not true, at least according to Coach Hoke. If a committed player visits another school. "he can still get a scholarship, but it won't be at Michigan".

I would expect Hoke to have a serious conversation with Conleys parents to discuss his policy. He has to remain consistent, so therefore I don't expect Conley to be in this class.

MSU isn't a very good football program.. takes year of consistent winning to get to that level. - copemoney 1/22/13

I agree w/ it... the Michigan staff has proven time & again that when a player commits they no longer recruit anyone to replace him. If Michigan is holding the spot for him, and doesn't have wandering eyes for the spot then I don't think it's asking too much for the commit to be loyal w/ his spot & not have wandering eyes.

Bill Greene ‏@BillBankGreene Gareon Conley will visit Cincinnati tomorrow. Says he's solid to Michigan but parents want him to take a few Trips Oregon coming in Monday

I wonder what his parents wanted him to do when he committed to Michigan?

IIRC, his mom lives on the West Coast and was in Gareon's ear about checking schools closer to her.

Michigan's odds are much better with LM III than you think. He is visiting for a whole weekend, and the michigan coaches will have an ample opportunity to re-affirm their position.

  • Agreed. Michigan has turned kids away, highly touted ones at that, once they fill a position. Hoke is committed to the kids and it is reasonable to expect the same in return.

  • I'd imagine that Conley definitely knows if he visits Cincy his spot is gone. I'm just not sure what he sees in Cincy. Who was that OL recruit last year that switched to Cincy late in the process?

Thank you. I have no clue what happened in his recruitment. I don't even think he enrolled at Cincy in the end...

This is to bad. If he is not committed what happens if McQuay wants to commit on a visit? How about Willis?

IMO you take McQuay! Really want this kid anyway, and we should go with the kid who wants to be here, not just have a spot held.

You're probably right. Gotta feel for the kid, but if his heart wasn't in it anymore then at least he got out of football early.

I just hope we can keep Conley. I've watched a game or two of his on TV this year, and he has great potential.

  • I know it's the kids choice, and it is important to choose the right school, but it's a real shame that more and more today when someone gives you their word it's not worth the air they used to voice it with.

To be honest with you even though I love having him in the class, he probably verballed a little too early. When you commit after your first ever college visit it's usually a knee jerk reaction

He saw that the depth chart wasn't going to be favorable with the rest of the OL class we brought in with him, so he decided to go to Cincy, then he decided he didn't even want to play football anymore.

Dude, all recruits stay for the whole weekend when they take official visits. You're trying to make it sound like it's a rare thing for a recruit to stay friday night through sunday morning.

Plus isn't Mcquay coming up with a whole family contingent? His father, fathers wife, and biological mother if I remember correctly. First time they have all gone on a visit.
