Derrick Green set to make huge jump in 247 composite.

  • DG just got bumped up to the #6 overall player in the country by one of the sites in the composite.

I have a feeling that Green will skyrocket up 247's own rankings as well. Was very impressive in during the Army practices/game.

Derrick Green is the #6 player overall on Scout and the #14 player overall on Rivals. There's no way he doesn't rocket up the 247 rankings.

  • He's that style of RB that defenders just hate to go against. He's short, compact, and agile... it's almost like trying to wrestle a wild boar. He leaves no numbers for you to hit, it's all head and shoulders or thighs.

  • JC said he is a top 100 player and is ranked 141 now

I think he'll be close to top 50, or higher.

If there's one thing 247 always says, it's that they aren't afraid to correct a mistake. Anybody could see that Green was the best RB on either team during the Army week.

  • Just curious to fans opinions on this. Why is this an interest that Green is set to move up in the rankings? It's not like you opinion of green or your wanting of him changed or increased now that he is the #6 player vs #25 right?

We know what type of player he is. We'd be just as excited even if he was a 2*.. That said, it's just nice to see our commits/players we are in on get national recognition.

Yeah, personally I don't care... my response was just what I seen out of Green. But I do think that high recruiting rankings are noticed by future commits & bringing in high recruiting classes sets you up for better classes in the future. So him moving up 100 spots does help in that way.

I kind of stated that in my question. Y opinion of green doesn't change, I know what player we are getting. I also know rankings, though have some success in regards to projecting talent, is no way precise so I don't place much stock in them beyond a footnote on the player.

The kids take pride in their rankings, however meaningless they might be. I do agree that landing "5 star" kids does get your team a certain kind of exposure.

Just look at USC, that's the only thing they have going for them. If they signed 15 4 stars would anybody be talking about them?

I get it. I guess I look at some rankings systems similar to Meyer recruiting. With meyer, the top guys across the board get offers but in the chance UM offers someone that isn't high we'll offer to. Some ranking services do the same as they may have missed on someone and thus just follow suit with other services. So yea it's cool that 247 recognized but if they just followed suit, is it that big of a deal? But I feel you.

I would say yea because kids were talking about us with our 15 4 stars. Kids noticed us, USC is still the sexier destination that's what also plays into their notoriety.

No way. Nationally, USC's recruiting is talked about on a whole different level than UM's. when it really isn't.

The entire reason for that is the "5 star" recruit label.

  • Lets be honest...when they are 'our' kids, it is nice to get objective national validation that they are awesome. Whether it is meaningful or not is an entirely different discussion.

From what I say of him, he looks like a top 5 running back and top 50 player, no question.

No denying USC was talked about, probably the loudest. My point was UM was still coming out of recruits mouth as well because for a time we were #1 and been top 5 for a very long time. Look at older interviews, kids stated that.

We are slowly getting back to that level. In the 90s, virtually every big star at least mentioned Michigan. Like Peyton Manning, for one. We aren't back to that level yet though.

  • We don't know that the other rankings are Scout and Rivals, btw. 247 could be using different ones for their composite.

True, I was more just pointing it out as a way of showing that the industry as a whole is reaching a consensus that Green is one of the best players in the nation.

I also have never personally stepped foot on the moon. I still believe it's there.

Seriously though, they may use other sites in addition, and I'm not sure how many, but c'mon now.

Haha. I understand and respect that. That's why I didn't mention the name of the site in the OP.

Green and Smith would be a GREAT RB haul. (PS: Not discounting Shallman, I just think he ends up elsewhere)

Even if Shallman ends up elsewhere, I want a jumbo package of him and Hurst. We saw Bama do it with Jesse Williams, and with our OL, that package would pretty much be an automatic 2-3 yards.

  • Now we can tell Derrick that if he comes here he will run behind the nation's top Tackle prospect. cool
