Denard still "day to day"

  • Mark Snyder ‏@Mark__Snyder
Hoke on radio show reiterates that Denard is "day to day"

I'm not sure how far to look into this, but it appears Denard hasn't quite recovered as expected and that Gardner may start for the second consecutive week.

I'm not surprised. The ulnar nerve injury is touch-and-go, and he'll probably be day-to-day for at least the next week.

TBH, I'm fine with DG starting against Northwestern. I'd like to see Denard be back for Iowa, but I want Denard to be 100% before seeing the field again.

I agree, no need to force the issue with Denard and possibly risk further injuring his elbow. Plus he would struggle even more in the passing game than he already does.

  • I would rather have DG start against northwestern. Gives Denard a week to heal and then a week to get the kinnks out before OSU.

  • If he can't play against Iowa then... Devin should be the starter the rest of the year. Fans can get mad all they want, but you can use Denard elsewhere on the field assuming he is healthy. Get him the ball out of the backfield, bring him in motion out of slot, bring back the diamond formation they had last year with Devin and Denard in the backfield together, etc... It just feels like to me that Devin is going to take off and never look back at the qb position and with Denard ulnar nerve injury his biggest strength of running the football is negated because any hit he takes on it could aggravate it again and he could go out(Which in turn will effect Borges playcalling, because he will be timid to run him as much) and it also effects his ability to throw which we already know isn't all that great to begin with, even when he is healthy. The offense just seems like it will stall too much given those issues with Denard under center. Im excited too see Devin play more, he is impressive.

I think this is smoke...Hoke said last week that he would play, and he didnt. This week they say hes day to day, so he will end up playing to throw off the other teams psyche on game day.

I don't believe anything hoke says about a injury anymore, but i prefer that he keeps it that way, no need to tell the other team about your injury's

I'm with you on this. Can't trust what Coach Hoke says anymore.

  • I'm willing to bet Denard doesn't play again until the osu game unless there's an "emergency" and we need him on the field.
